hi all, from your resident open salon conspiracy theorist-slash-crackpot! welcome to the Conspiracy Channel! just wanted to put my trusty tinfoil hat on and greet you all after one of the most conspiracy-rife periods in recent memory! they seem to be everywhere you look, popping out of the woodwork! just like me with my posts sometimes!

the occasion for this post are several aligning factors.

the Tsarnaev bombing. theres a ton of info circulating on this. it seems that the internet has reached critical mass. years ago when 911 happened, there was not much of a conspiracy subculture. but after a half decade and some extraordinary developments, possibly Richard Gage mainly among them, its become much more mainstream.
the Benghazi attack. yep I had heard quite awhile ago a theory about CIA involvement and recently that news had been compiled into an outstanding blog [a5] by (you guessed it) a NOT MAINSTREAM MEDIA WRITER. of course the MSM does not even mention the CIA, its "the thing that shall not be named", you know like that villain in Harry Potter. official MSM motto: see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil, report no evil. oh yes, there is at this point a small almost innocuous leak into the MSM—another blog! [a4] see also [d1]
frank apisa, bless his soul, "old" resident open salon golfer-slash-curmudgeon, has been openly flamebaiting on the subject for several straight posts, and getting more-or-less reaction gauged by ratings (henceforth "R"). he started out with an interestingly timed post pre-bombing [c2/4R] complaining about LibbyLiberal imho one of the most progressive, idealistic and best writers on here, or in FAs words, the "nutty unrealistic left tossing everything under the bus"....

then near the end of april post-bombing he started complaining [without naming any names] about "when did open salon become the conspiracy channel?" [c3/27R]. not exhausting this particular line of thinking, he next complains [c4/17R] about "purveyors of “The world is such a horrible place filled with such horrible people” brigade is in full dudgeon this week" [with a ensuing stellar/stunning 234 comment cascade-of-silliness with various contributions by yours truly]:

Kinda sad. Watching these miserable, unhappy, disgruntled individuals trudge through life spreading their gloom and despondency is like watching a crazed, cackling Santa Claus dispersing coal to kids in an orphanage. But, they need their unhappiness; they need their disgruntlement; they need their misery…and most of all, they need to try to spread it; the alternative would be to pick themselves up and stop their incessant self-pity…an option they avoid like the plague. They’d rather wallow in their wretchedness…and see if they can bring the rest of the world down to their level of doom and gloom.

wow! the horror! the horror! if only I could get so many ratings with just a few scant paragraphs and moody/surly/evocative prose/adjectives... it takes me a lot of research, writing, hustling and promotion/linking to get a measly 19R on my last post. envious! to answer your question frank, "at least ever since I joined about 4 years ago, but yeah there is recently some new stuff in the air...."

franks last effort along these lines, "Yet More About What a Cesspool is America" [c5/4R] again recycles the trope. "I see Libby has another of her long, rambling tirades against America and its government--another of her “America has become a fascist state” pieces of nonsense--in the New Feed." ah! so much better than a short, rambling tirade pieces of nonsense again in the newsfeed, right frank?

yes frank it does seem like there has been a big influx of conspiracy thinking recently into open salon, but if you ask me, its just the real/cyber Zeitgeist. since thats a complicated foreign word and he might be reading Ill include the definition here:

the spirit, attitude, or general outlook of a specific time or period, esp as it is reflected in literature, philosophy, etc

yes, the day has come. in my estimation, finally conspiracy theory is reaching a tiny new critical mass here on open salon. a small "virality". woohoo! I have been long waiting for this day of opportunity to materialize and level with/come clean with my niche/quirky audience. I was both optimistic and pessimistic this would happen when I started my blog. a day to celebrate.

open salon, youve removed some of the cold pessimism from my dark heart [which frank refers to]. what he takes as a scourge on this site, I take as a glimmer of enlightenment. I guess at least on this issue frank is a bit of my shadow, or I am his! and Ive always thought, groundhog-like, it can be a scary or joyous experience discovering one's shadow.

so let me take a little moment to let you know how I got into conspiracy theory... some people remember their 1^st gf or "their first time", I do too, slightly differently...

it was not my choice. I just valued really understanding reality from a young age. I heard socrates "know thyself" and realized that the same concept applied to the exterior world. follow the truth, whereever it leads. "the truth will set you free". I may have heard of plato's allegory of the cave/shadows,[a6] which in a way, is one of the earliest remarkable cases of conspiracy theory, only about 2 millenia old...

I think a lot happened in 6th grade to shift my thinking. my excellent english teacher "Ms Ack" [a thinly veiled pseudonym] introduced me (along with the rest of the class) to quantum mechanics with a trick question. I took her intellectual bait by answering her question according to commonsense/everyday physics, and was impaled, as she informed me I was incorrect! a blow to my intellectual ego, in front of the whole class! things in reality were not as they seemed, in more ways than one!

she introduced us to the holocaust with a documentary that contained WWII newsreel footage of bulldozers pushing bodies into mass graves, along with scenes of Nuremburg. wow! I almost forgot! I asked my jewish friends, "did you know about all that? the bodies in graves?" my parents had not really told me that part of the story.

and then there was the book I am the Cheese, which Ms.Ack recommended to me, and I read, and it blew my mind, to the degree I could comprehend it.[a1,a2] imagine, conspiracy theory as acclaimed childrens literature. (I think I blew Ms.Ack's mind a little herself many yrs later when she stumbled across me reading Prophecies of Nostradamus in the library....)

and then in jr high I believe, it was my friend JD (who strangely enough, has the same initials as my fraternal twin brother) who told me about the Puzzle Palace [a3] after hearing about it from his programmer dad. I didnt read the book until years later in college, but early news affected me.

this was all (non?-)hallucinogenic worldview-shattering, psyche-altering stuff.

and then in senior year of college I met the cypherpunks, but that is a whole other grandiose story worthy of some other blog, on a similarly momentous and fitting occasion.

oh yeah and then there was watching the Matrix with my first serious gf, a hard-core cougar close to double my age, who had the hots for both me and Keanu... carrying on a little tantric conspiracy of our own...! maybe now you can see a little of how all this stuff got a bit blurred together!

so I have this huge backlog of conspiracy related stuff as usual, but I dont want to overwhelm you all with the firehose. it has to be cut into something like bite-size pieces right? of course this is all well above the 6th grade reading level that most MSM is targeted at anyway, but whatever! (congratulate yourself for getting this far!)

WARMACHINE — new directions, or same old bloody story?

hi all. another few years, another sickening terrorist event.

just heard about the boston marathon explosions as I write this. another senseless tragedy but with probably deep political implications. not sure how it will play out in the days, weeks, months, years ahead, but its probably safe to say that as usual, its a feather in the cap of the Warmachine. violence anywhere in the world, esp due to terrorism, is generally fodder for its untempered onslaught.

strange coincidence, after long ages of collecting links, on april 15th I finally decided to sort my now several-year-collection of warmachine links for a post and did so, only hours before tragedy struck.

I saw j.wolframs blog about the inappropriateness of the use of the word "blowback". well whatever wolfram. its just a word in the english language. its not a real bogeyman like shadowy terrorist(s) are. if you're afraid of a particular word in the english language, maybe you should consult a psychologist or therapist about that.

I think the word is appropriate here, but maybe not in the way others would assume. if it was foreign terrorists, then sure, its arguably blowback for extreme imperialist policy [has there ever been an empire to match the united states in all of history?]. of course!

but it could have been domestic terrorists on april 15th, tax day. but even then I would say its a kind of blowback, right? its blowback for our hyperviolent, paranoid culture that sees (projects?) enemies everywhere and thinks the "liberal" use of military force in every godforsaken place in the world—coincidentally with valuable natural assets—is the solution to all problems. we seem to copiously breed psychopaths who inhabit both our streets, our military, our government.

violence is a sickness of humanity, an old sickness, an old virus of the mind. but in the 21st century with our byzantine, strangelovian technology we have taken it to new awesome extremes. what is a bomb but a kind of technology? and we have egalitarian technology. almost anyone could have created that homemade bomb. early reports, it was made out of a pressure cooker, contained nails and ball bearings, and did not involve exotic explosives (although the explosive is still unreported).

I do see some early glimmer of weakly encouraging signs that this latest event could *conceivably* not be used as further fuel for the warmachine. yeah I am one of the most cynical and pessimistic people you will meet, or you could just say "realistic", and yet even I think there is hope for humanity—just in the *very* long term. obama already says "we dont know who did this". wait, really? I remember on 911 the networks pretty much had it all figured out in hours and bush was on the warpath in very short order. so meet the new boss, same as the old boss? or not? hope we dont get fooled again.

I went back thru my blog to see last time I posted on the warmachine. Ive been writing a lot about assange and exposure and persecution. but its been about 3 yrs since I wrote a warmachine-focused post. Ive been writing a lot about economic issues in the blog instead. its actually been somewhat quiet on the terror front for years. it started to look like the wars might actually, really be ramping down.

so have been quietly accruing links in my bookmarks and decided its finally time to unleash the latest mass shipment. hope some will find these useful and informative.

why now? the one-decade anniversary of the invasion of iraq has caused some brief soul-searching in the media, some few faint, timid retrospectives and feeble self-examinations.

was hoping to publish this before the election but missed out on that partly due to the inoperability of the open salon web site. the war was not a forefront issue in the election mainly, and imho that is typically by design of the Powers That Be [the less the public even thinks about key controversial issues, the better, and it helps keep them "coloring inside the lines"]. although romney predictably accused obama of being soft on terrorism and likely to decrease funding for the military.

but the assassination of osama [a gamechanging, milestone event imho for its deep symbolic significance] has really flipped the political climate on this issue and for the first time in decades made the democrats look overly on the aggressive, hawkish side. also obama is turning out to be the Super-Wizard-Enabler of Drones and one seriously wonders if even a republican president would have such unbridled enthusiasm for warbotics as obama....

in my lifetime the warmachine was actually significantly cut back by clinton in the mid1990s as the media seriously discussed a so-called "peace dividend" ensuing after the fall of the USSR/soviet union. but obviously, thats very dangerous talk for the sizeable corporatocracy which is tightly coupled with the warmachine apparatus. so that cutback can only be seen as a rather singular historic event. and after the death of osama it does look like some modest cuts of the pentagon are in the cards but obama is already caving by proposing cuts in the social programs (surprise!)

it would appear the sprawling, metastasized warmachine has reached historically epic proportions in a short amount of time, only about 1.5 decade or so, about 2/3 of that time post-911. it has achieved a sort of escape velocity in which the normal rules of politics dont really apply much such as how much the public approves of it or pays attention to it. its nearly "untouchable". but lately there are signs of cracks in the armor. for someone like me whose been seriously repulsed by it ever since 911, I consider that nearly miraculous. we do seem to be in the middle of an inflection point.

for example the successful appointment of Hagel as defense secretary is an unprecedented, astonishing moment. years ago when the iraq war was ramping up in ~2005, he made an extraordinary quote, which I used in a post protesting the war:

To question your government is not unpatriotic — to not question your government is unpatriotic. —Chuck Hagel

wow! you could almost imagine a 911 truther like Richard Gage saying something like that. but the confirmation proceedings were disappointing. he took a very conservative, evasive tact in standing up to senators, not taking any outright controversial stands and backing up from some of his historical positions. the real proof of the pudding will be in his actual decisions, and I was hoping that maybe he was underplaying his stronger ideas on military restructuring or redirecting in front of congress. we'll see how it plays out, but on paper he's almost the best possible appointment conceivable for opponents of the unrestrained warmachine!

as usual Ive separated all the links into sections which afaik reflect the zeitgeist. nothing in these links is highly unusual or unexpected but it is the kind of content that the MSM would not really be candid or open about. so its a different angle/perspective on the warmachine brought to you by that highly subversive structure we know as the Internet/Cyberspace. Im no julian assange but maybe this collection/assortment rates at least one milli-assange.

cost — links on how much the iraq and afghanistan wars are estimated to cost. years ago when Stiglitz and other reputable economists came out with staggeringly high estimates of over a trillion dollars, there was widespread disbelief, doubt, skepticism, rejection, denial. but a few years later, its nearly conventional wisdom that we blew vast dollars on these wars. a little more than the $40B figure that was tossed around at the beginning of the campaign, eh? the astronomical war cost was one of my original objections to the war; it was clear to me it might have been off by at least an order of magnitude, but *two* orders of magnitude was probably closer.... so in the last few years of recession and proposed social cuts, the public has finally started to weakly grasp the monstrous enormity of the boondoggle.

killteam — there was some brief glimmer of media and public alarm over the use of a special forces kill team whose only job was to assassinate terrorists. in many ways the revelations were on the level or worse than the scandalous Abu Graib. drug taking and corpse mutilation, murders staged as fake battles, body parts as trophies in circulated pictures, etc. but my feeling is this story was rather effectively pushed outside of public consciousness/awareness. what one might call asymmetric media manipulation-- a whitehot story that got very lukewarm reaction. its already been largely forgotten, amazing... the public just cant conceive of it, therefore the diabolical news fails to gain psychic "traction"...

cutback/budget — stories about (gasp) the utterly catastrophic possibilities of cutbacks in defense or the misuse of the defense budget, how the pentagon can barely keep track of its own spending.

corp — about the generally-well-conceal corporatocratic connection to the warmachine via the obvious defense corporations but also other surprising faces. its surely at least half the reason for the existence of the warmachine, the immense profitability of its overall operation, but the public is very well conditioned to fearfully or irrationally associate discussions of war profiteering with subversion or lack of patriotism. how the libyan war is a sort of shiny new weaponry showroom for the warmachine.

wartoys — new terrible weapon technology on the drawing boards or being rolled out eg in libya, and quickly/coolly sold to other nations for billions as soon as they're "demonstrated". superdeadly machine guns, tank camouflage, sophisticated drones, magnetic railguns. but even congress is noticing incredibly expensive fighter airplanes that even the military doesnt want! bizarrely, congress has pushed some weapons on the unwilling defense dept as a way of promoting jobs! truly an almost unbelievably extreme manifestation of the modern "military industrial complex" that even the visionary eisenhower could not have predicted....

propaganda — "the first casualty in war is the truth". a more accurate statement might be, "all wars are based on lies". billions are spent on war propaganda by our own government and much of it is at least somewhat effective. the main propaganda is fearmongering. yes of course, a concept that very few would be able to grasp, arguably *propaganda* is the real/true terrorism! but there are other subtle forms of propaganda such as think tanks funded by the warmachine that advocate cutting social programs.

another form of propaganda was all the publicity about how the drone program works and obamas Big Man, Alpha Male role [that is, *portrayal*!] in it, which came out shortly before the election. all of these structures are generally well hidden from the mostly incurious public. pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, dorothy!

police state — the domestic manifestation of the warmachine is the police state, which surveils everyone and vacuums up vast quantities of data on americans. there is some fairly good reporting here. oh yeah did you hear about the missile launchers at the olympics in britain that led to public outcry? ah well dont feel bad if you didnt, few did.

prison — the police state and the warmachine have one thing in common, a sinister joy at the use of prisons. the prisons become more orwellian and there becomes fewer distinctions between civilian and military prisons, so that its all a blurry mess. the prison system is truly a dystopian kafkaesque-orwellian hybrid. prisoners are not ever charged, not ever released. clearly at least a few dozen prisoners in Guantanamo must be truthfully characterized only as political prisoners.

shift — it sounds dark, but there are indications of shift in military policy and structure. we havent fought a conventional war against a state since Iraq, and that was close to a decade ago. the military calls the new enemy organizations or theatres "failed states" but the real concept is more like stateless [guerilla] warfare, for which our pentagon is like a dinosaur compared to some nimble new stateless organizations and structures. "terror" is an accurate word for what the pentagon feels when it faces a completely different kind of threat that its billions-of-dollars planes, tanks, and bombs may not be at all suited to fight.

coverup — miscellaneous material thats generally covered up or not fully/adequately covered elsewhere. how did osama die anyway? there are conflicting accounts. also, the petraeus resignation, a political bombshell.

endless — orwellian is the key word here. yes, we're living in an orwellian reality when our large government can point to tiny countries like libya, somalia or yemen and assert that they pose some sort of existential threat to us. truly a triumph of propaganda. but even the media sometimes refers to "endless war", a concept that was largely coined and examined by orwell. orwell nailed some aspects of what we are living through but in other ways, was not sufficiently darkly pessimistic. reality is far darker than fiction.

debate — maybe my favorite section because here I showcase my favorite writers with real brains, coincidentally all arguing eloquently against the warmachine. to call it "debate" is a bit deceptive. they are fair writers and they examine the issue impartially, I would say, without bias, and they all conclude we're engaged in a self-destructive madness. surprise!

empire — yeah, "empire" is a word like "warmachine" that is not used in polite company, but if you're in polite company, the former can substitute as a rough codeword for the latter. so some writers are bold enough to talk about US empire and how its not merely a physical construction but a mental framework & worldview that is ensconced in the psychology of US citizens. the reality staring us in the face is that Empire is unsustainable. but the public and the government serving as its face & facade, seems endlessly capable of sustaining its cherished delusions even in the face of some signs of "downward death-spirals". we will see.

911, shadow govt, CIA, phillip marshall death, & the MATRIX

hi all. as some of you may know, this blog was started partly to share 911 truth type information with the public. about 3.5 yrs ago, that was rather radical. it is still out of the mainstream, but how far? the pov has increased substantially in awareness over that time. its still something you might not want to share with your neighbors. but wait! my next door neighbor actually talked to me about the subject not to long ago. I was a bit aghast. he's a "joe sixpack" type who does home construction and owned and worked on a motorcycle most of his adult life.

so last 911 anniversary I posted nothing on the subj. yes, I believe in "RIP". its a national trauma, a deep scar that still persists. it had a substantial effect on my own life, albeit in indirect ways. have written a lot, researched a lot, thought a lot. believe in the concept of "moving on" and really wish it would go away.

on the other hand, at the time I started the blog, there was a glimmer of possibility that there might be some kind of shift possible. such shifts do happen occasionally in human history. the 20th century has many examples. amazingly, significant parts of the scientific and academic communities have woken up to the reality of 911 conspiracy. increasingly, also the world political communities have some awareness. there is some international public awareness. the next stage is, will it have any *effect*?

believe that a process of immunization is in progress. basically the world has shadow governments, just as individuals have a personal "shadow side" in psychology described by the early psychologist Jung. as individuals we learn to develop psychological immunities to harmful individuals in our midst. there is such a thing as a psychological immune system on a personal level. how do we repel negative influences/thoughts/people from our own lives and personal awareness? this is the microcosm. there is a similar mechanism operating at the macrocosm.

the shadow govt can become something like a cancer in pathological cases. we are entering such an era. the CIA is basically an official government agency based on shadow government. the CIA during peace becomes somewhat benign, more like a bureacratic analysis branch. during wartime, which we have entered for over a decade, it becomes engorged, inflamed, and pathological. this is a particularly acute period in american history. if there is such a thing as the "body politic", then the CIA is its shadowy Reptilian Brain. which takes over in times of stress, fear and so-called "terror". like, eg, ie, ever since 911!

the CIA now operates more like a paramilitary organization than an intelligence agency. it has been given "carte blanche" for over a decade and obama seems to think the right wing will question his manhood if he doesnt accede to it all. historically these two elements of the CIA have always been at tension with each other. another great historical example of this was during the Kennedy adminstration [also the nexus of another key, dark, galvanzing event in history of the american "shadow govt"].

this current paramilitary structure and emphasis, approaching on fanaticism was basically put in place very, very deliberately by Cheney-Bush. they knew exactly what they were doing even as almost nobody else did. cheney even directly referenced the "shadow side" of government. Cheney-Bush purged the CIA of high-level career bureacrats who were resistant to their agenda. this was done fairly quietly mostly out of media attn (as the shadow govt always operates).

so now its like the refrain in that old song by guns & roses. "where do we go now"?

rogue elements of the US shadow govt operate like a cancer. it is up to the healthy cells [individuals] of a society to develop immunization. government agencies or private corporations behave like organs in a larger body, a larger economy, a larger system. are they healthy or diseased?

but cancer is a relevant analogy in more than one way. cancer can be dealt with by a healthy immune system in some cases, being neutralized. but in other cases the immune system itself is weakened, even infected(!), and the balance-of-power between the healthy system (the body/host) and the unhealthy system (cancer) becomes very fragile and precarious. we have been in such an era/period since 911. the cancer increasingly shows clear signs of metastasizing on top of the healthy govt system and functioning [see eg my earlier posts on the Police State etc].

so, recently roger shuler on open salon posted on 911 and the phillip marshall case. marshall is a brilliant 911 truth writer. we have his latest book on amazon. he was apparently working on a sequel at the time of his death. I saw the headlines in the british DailyMail-- 911 truther kills self and family (two children) in suicide. oh, geez I thought. I made a mental note to come back to this and keep track of any new info.

I thought, here we go again. an extraordinary new way for the MSM to stigmatize the subject and psychologically traumatize anyone in the area. but this is just a small microcosm of the macrocosm again. 911 was a massively psychologically traumatizing event that will continue to reverberate throughout the nation's history for decades to come. the reverberations have not stopped. phillip marshall is an intense recent reverberation. a death of a single family actually pales in comparison to the death toll of the original event.

now, full disclosure. caveat! I know joe sixpack and jill apple pie are gonna have a hard time listening to this story. its not something you're gonna read in the MSM, maybe ever! so you can take the narcotizing blue pill and go back to your comfortable little circumscribed reality, or the intense red pill, and have a rare *unauthorized* thought outside the Matrix. youve been warned!

marshall was working on a sequel to his 911 research, he was right in the middle of it, hot and heavy. his basic thesis is that the event was pulled off by saudi arabian intelligence agencies and that the CIA arranged/setup the cover story of bin laden. now, dont know about this. have always felt that it was some international intelligence agency, probably the mossad. I dont know what saudi arabia has to gain by the destruction of Iraq, but israel's enmity with Iraq was well documented. however it wouldnt surprise me in the least if saudi arabian companies got a big cut of the Iraq oil field action. havent researched this, but its certainly not implausible.

so the local sheriffs office right now is getting a little flak on their so-called marshall "investigation". one might say, the marshalls are marshalling their marshall investigation. HAHAHA. ah, and how efficient they are, it sounds like its nearly, basically, already concluded!

but oops. there are some strange little nagging discrepancies and anomalous wrinkles, like that he wasnt left handed and was shot in the left side of his head, and that he loved & took good care of his kids, wasnt depressed, and was planning on watching an upcoming football game. uh oh! this doesnt exactly fit into the 911-truthers-are-psychopaths meme. oh yeah, and he told a close personal friend something like, "you wont believe what I am putting in the next book".

oh, and that in the very close neighborhood of homes, nobody heard the gunshots, yet a silencer was not found with the gun. and he told his friends that he didnt keep ammunition for his gun. oh yeah, and the neighbors witnessed all kinds of apparently secret govt vehicles and govt employees in-and-out of the crime scene. yeah, whatever!

hey, maybe someone could make a nice handy list of all these discrepancies. of course normally thats kind of the job of the POLICE but these days with the govt cutbacks and all, maybe they're just too BUSY and UNDERFUNDED to do stuff like that! I mean its not like the narcotized joe sixpack and jill apple pie are gonna NOTICE or SAY anything. that would be UNPATRIOTIC and UNAMERICAN.

ok, I know this is utterly outlandish to propose that... uh... how to put this... PROFESSIONAL/TRAINED ASSASSIN(S) took out marshall AND his FAMILY. oh and there is some speculation that phillip had some particularly highly sensitive information or "scoop" he was about to reveal. now this is a longtime conspiracy theory, one of the most intense of all, that particular researchers are "snuffed out" based on getting too close to the truth. sort of the ultimate case of the moth and the flame, eh? hey, know it sounds crazy, but anyone who has done even cursory research in this area knows there are just too many cases like this to ignore.

so its a wild question to ask, is there some particular information or connection that phillip uncovered that he paid for with his life? *including* that of his children? what could be "worth" that much for the shadow govt to keep secret? now as 911 itself reveals quite viscerally, the shadow govt obviously values life very little [except perhaps somewhat of its pawns and tentacles], but its hard to imagine anything fitting in that category. could it, x-files style, still be out there, waiting to be discovered by someone?

so the phillip marshall case is white hot & developing at the moment, and even in 911 conspiracy circles, maybe not covered that well. hence the reason I decided to disgorge all my latest 911 links since last shipment. just scanned months of articles on 911blogger.com and didnt see a single mention of him. holy cow! its rare to find stuff this volatile. must be radioactive man! quick, delete your browsing history NOW and just SHUT OFF YOUR COMPUTER if you truly value your own existence =)

DEATH TO DRONES — Mission Creep to Execution Nirvana

hi all. as I mentioned recently Ive collected bazillions of links on misc political topics over many months & was ready to post while open salon was down. one topic Ive covered in this blog since its inception is Drones. the complex and polarizing issue has really spiralled in a short amt of time. when the future of warfare is written, a large chapter will talk about drones.

this is a very fast moving field, I collect links obsessively-at-times and I can barely keep track. it would be cool if someone created a web site dedicated to the subject.

drones were started under bush and slowly perfected in a short amt of time. its a key case study in the concept of "mission creep". drones were initially used for surveillance and the military gave assurances that this would be their major purpose. but to the warmongering militarists of the country, drones were a wet dream. its a dark collusion of different interests.

they're a vivid, visceral manifestation and realization of the War machine in physical, material form. they were quickly tested based on the ability for "payloads". one of those neutral, sanitized term for BOMBS. bombs, bombs, bombs. you know, like in that song that mccain sang once about iran!

so, as a software engr who has dabbled in robotics over the years, Ive got strong mixed feelings on this. the concept of drones, believe it or not, actually originates with Tesla. he talked about using robotic or remote controlled systems for warfare. but it was a sort of Strangelovian dream. it was once thought that terrible weaponry might lead to peace.

oh yes, the wonders of technology! but it appears that technology is like a funhouse mirror at times, it only reveals our own distorted nature. peace through weaponry is a mad delusion. einstein the great pacifist pointed out emphatically

how can we consciously function when our government is based on a deadly, delusional contradiction?

I collected these links mainly for the public, not so much for myself. every single hit on this web page is a small drop in the bucket. I cant boil the ocean, but I can walk along the beach and pick up stranded starfish, and throw them back in the water. every person who reads this post, and comes to new understanding and awareness, is like a point of light, or a neuron in the global brain. that global brain thinks, at times, dark, crazy, mad thoughts. it can be steered gradually toward enlightment, toward balance & harmony, toward peace.

maybe humans cannot always find their way to the truth, but google can find its way to this article, and lead the way to forerunners in compassion and reform.

it is difficult to time posts like this for me. I wanted to write this maybe last summer. I try to time my posts to current events. Ive been waiting for drones to become a large issue, and blow up in the face of the country, eg via some international incident. my main guess was that somebody politically elite would be blown up by a drone accidentally, or some other international incident. so far, that galvanizing moment has not come. however, at least there were major protests at the Brennan confirmation very recently. a rare moment in the years of public tolerance, indifference, and apathy.

however, there have been some blips in awareness over the last year. the election brought the issue to the forefront. it seemed that even the right wing might have been edgy about obama's use of drones. last summer the NYT did an outstanding article that raised a lot of awareness, showing how much effect the media can have on driving the discussion.

the NYT article seemed almost to be an "official leak". obama is caught at the heart of this contradiction in our country. he has powerful instincts for transparency, but it gets distorted in a strange way in meeting the us Warmachine. he seems to believe that he can codify an "official playbook" for drone strikes and by getting personally involved, the accountability of the project is increased. it is made systematic and sanitized. he believes he has made a genuine contribution. well congratualations on that my friend!

but [newsflash] ... I hate to be the bearer of bad news on this ... please dont shoot the messenger ...

there is no humane way to kill people.

think about that concept. repeat that mantra. its not part of being a liberal, its not part of being compassionate. its part of being human.

obama seems not to be caught in this moral dimension of his "procedures". he is infected by the military delusion and contradiction of sanitized killing, that it is an effective instrument of foreign policy, that somehow every "insurgent" killed brings the US govt closer to its foreign objectives.

even dissidents in the military are starting to point out that reality is not matching the theory.

the brainwashed, deluded govt insiders would tell me after reading this that this is a simplistic analysis of world forces and dynamics, that in reality, "its complicated". sort of like facebook relationships. if drones had a page on facebook, they would have many, many Friends. friends in the defense companies, friends in government, friends in foreign governments. a dark alliance of sinister interests converging on frankenstein technology.

so drones were an issue in the election to a minor degree. it never made it much into television debates, but it sprang up in the media to some degree. a small glimmer of light in the darkness. next, we have the latest Brennan confirmation proceedings for the CIA position.

Brennan is being portrayed as the master of drones, and a guy you can trust, who expertly balances humanity with precision killing, who kills in a law-respecting manner.

hmmmm, would that be sort of like a human guillotine or gas chamber?

the guillotine was invented in the french revolution by a doctor who wanted to see a more humane method of executions, after noticing how human executioners often made errors in making a clean cut on the chopping block.

oh yes indeed, isnt techology all about "correcting errors"? there must be a more sanitary, better way. it seems after the long sweep of history, we Americans have finally arrived at it. it might be called, the Nirvana of Execution.

the military is now making vague promises that drones will never be Fully Autonomous [in selecting or firing on targets, or whatever] as that technology is just now on the horizon. yeah right. we have already crossed so many boundaries, its hard to keep track any more, it makes me dizzy. its like tofflers Future Shock compressed over the space of just a few years. or is that the point? just the future cannot be forecasted exactly, but for a somewhat plausible and likely picture, all we have to do is remember two words....

I must say, on reading & organizing this material, I now find it staggering all in one place and one view. theres been a massive explosion in the use of drones, it seems some critical threshold, some critical mass has been exceeded. it seems to have developed a new momentum, and hit and extraordinary tipping point. we seem to have literally entered a Point of No Return.

there are excellent front-page level articles in NYT, Rolling Stone, Esquire, Mother Jones, the Nation. this is not a left or a right issue. it is an American issue. it made huge headlines last summer as Obama's very direct role was revealed, and congress reacted angrily. it seems to have reached a whole new level and scale of reality. drones are being used increasingly in the US with 63 bases identified.

for the first time drones tracked and killed an american citizen, Awlacki, and his 16 yr old son.

there is ominous, alarming spread of the technology internationally and domestically.

I fear for the future of drones, and the future of this country which is now highly intertwined with this invention that only seems to become more diabolical with each passing year, month, day.

I am one of the greatest adherents and proponents of scifi and technological advance, and it its a massive tragedy of humanity to witness the incredible sophistication of research and development channeled into drones. what if this energy was used for good rather than nefarious purposes? we face issues like climate change, and energy depletion. but it seems the worlds greatest minds are working and focused on even better & more efficient ways to vaporize designated-terrorists.

maybe someday this will be recognized as a crime of humanity on the level of the historic ones we study in textbooks. but apparently, not anytime soon.

pakistan, frayed diplomacy, protests. of course the main use of drones is in pakistan it appears, and our diplomatic relations with that country were stretched to the breaking point and even led to a temporary cessation, but it proved to be only a brief hiatus. its caused demonstrations and near civil unrest in the country, protests by officials in high levels of government. our policy has been revealed as increasingly indiscriminate and targeting large groups.
international spread. increasingly drones are being showed at sales shows for other countries to buy them, and the Warmachine corporations are eager to rake in new revenue streams. its said that the foreign use is declining in focus in some articles, but that smells like near propaganda to me. it is possible it is not as much of a growth area. and what happens when hostile countries get their hands on this technology? it seems only a blink of the eye away. new use/spread of drones in somalia, libya, yemen & elsewhere (even against phillipines guerillas).
domestic spread/surveillance. there is an amazing speed of developments here. the FAA is involved in regulations, and initially it was thought to be strict and highly regulated, but it appears that drones are already being flown routinely in the US in major areas and there are 63 bases in the US. they're mainly being used for surveillance, but its happened without much public notice or legislative debate.
obamas direct role. revealed for the first time by the NYT article that came out last summer and a new book. previously obama was not known to play such a direct role as selecting and approving targets, almost weekly. the NYT article was eye opening and alarming in many ways. it became something of an election issue and a near-front-page issue. it seems both the left and the right wings have a lot of shock at this new information. here, strangely, obamas instinct for transparency and accountability has manifested in a dystopian vision and which has caused much blowback/backlash so far. at this point it hasnt led to a crisis in the presidency, but it feels like it could be just on the edge of that possibility.
reports, coverup, and propaganda. the govts statements about how often civilians are killed are misleading, inaccurate, or just plain propaganda. there is little independent reporting on the subject, although finally some independent groups are doing analysis and reports, and there are some drone-related lawsuits to try to get information and details or reel in the government.
resistance and blowback aka "karma". this section is about worldwide resistance and anger, such as over children victims of drones, calls for arrest of CIA legal chief, etcetera. Pakistan outright ordered the CIA to halt drone strikes, and it sparked a large protest. its described blandly and innocously in one article as a "feud". also, some public protests such as comments on an Amazon page for a toy drone. international human rights groups are protesting.
pilots. new detailed information on the psychological toll on pilots, and that theres a huge demand for new pilots. hey, in a down economy, you could strike a new "dark" bargain.
increase/budget. the use of drones is increasing, budgets are increasing, huge expansion of the CIA paramilitary element. this aint your father's CIA. its a major element of Pentagon spending, its a major element of its strategy. but also leading to massive waste as eg $3B in drones were thrown away. and thats just the case we heard about.
hacking & viruses. it was discovered a virus infected one of the operational control centers in the Air Force by Wired magazine, and the Air Force initially denied the infection but later confirmed it. also its been found that drones can be hacked into in some demonstrations, and Iran downed a drone, possibly by hacking ito it.
advances & future. as I mentioned, there is increasing possibility of autonomous drones on the horizon that make targeting decisions on their own. the US Military has given some weak assurances by most-unnamed officials that this will never happen, but one is reminded of vague assurances years ago that their main use was surveillance. the technology is getting cheaper and proliferating. an evil Moores law, anyone?

policy "debate". there is supposedly some strong debate and pushback in congress over the use of drones, obamas kill list, etcetera. one wonders how much of this is genuine outrage or a sort of political ploy by congress only to react to the degree that the american public reacts to the increasingly startling news.
editorial/commentary. here is where it might be even more depressing than previous content to read, but in many ways, is the most important. what does all this say about us as americans? what is the end result of all this? what direction are we going? who are we becoming? is it ethical, moral, sensible, reasonable, rational? more maybe, something else?

hi all! long time no write. open salon has been an unmitigated disaster for at least a quarter of the year as far as its performance. yikes! so, took a hiatus from the blog. but, really did miss cranking out blog posts routlinely. had been easing up on my frequency anyway. however, the timing of the long "outage" was terrible. wanted to write about the big political issues of our time, mainly the presidential elections, economics, the military. a *ton* of material and links in all those areas. a huge backlog. will take awhile to get thru all that!

didnt want to start out a new blog elsewhere & try to build up an audience. what an arduous and joyless process that is! it would make Sisypheus even a bit envious! [hah hah a little of that obscure yet erudite greek humor for you]. it took me years just to build up the semirespectable hits I get on this site. oh and geez, the new open salon makes it much harder to figure out your hits on your latest posts. ah man, blogging is enough of a drag as it is! so stick me with a fork, Im almost done! but hey, blogging always has that inherently narcissistic and near-masochistic side to it.

have been trying to figure out what to blog on next, there are a zillion topics competing, but inspiration and spark is a little different. what would be *fun* to write about?

let me give you a hint. super sexy girls *like* to take their clothes off. this may seem inconceivable to someone like you, but its true! you're quoted in the article as saying that taking off too many clothes makes you "uncomfortable". the truly goddess women, they *enjoy* having men look at their near perfect naked bodies.

a sexy woman enjoys exercise, she thrives on it! she thrives on the feeling of her body being pushed to its limits, getting the blood flowing, the flesh tingling. heck, how much different is exercise than sex, anyway? sex *is* exercise. sex can be very *grueling* exercise. a woman that doesnt really like exercise, is probably not gonna like sex either, right?

have been lucky to have more than a few girlfriends, and the ones who are in shape, and like to exercise, its phenomenal how different their bodies are. the body will have much more feeling to it. fat is actually like a very strong feeling insulator around the most sensitive areas of a womans body. its quite strange but fat stores in exactly the same erogenous zones of a woman-- isnt that weird? fat is like an eroticism charge zapper, a neutralizer. not exactly sure what nature is saying to us with that weird setup.

somewhat related to this, a sexy woman is not always obsessing about her weight! heck, the ideal woman never even *thinks* about her weight. she's just at that right, sexy weight. imagine taking out a beautiful woman to dinner, and then she cant decide what to order because shes mentally calculating the calories. geez, what a bummer! its fine to diet but *not* on date nite. do your exercise and diet some other time, right?

and *please* dont ask us what to order geez, being charming & funny & entertaining is enough effort and pressure as it is for us, isnt it? does your brain work for *something*? and *please* dont ask us what we think of what you ordered. if you decided on it, it must be *perfect* right? see the impeccable logic in that?

next, a sexy woman is comfortable with the *erotic*. now, eroticisim is different than porn, and our culture has a lot of difficulty coming to grips with what exactly are the differences. lots of confusion there. some porn can verge on the erotic, but it is not very common. a sexy woman is comfortable with her own erotic feelings, her desires, and her partners desires.

she understands that erotic feelings are unique to her, and again like a fingerprint or snowflake. there are lots of possibilities of what one might find erotic, but only a person themself can figure out what is erotic for themselves. no one else can figure it out for you. its like someone else trying to guess what favor of ice cream is your favorite, or what is your favorite color. impossible! ridiculous!

a sexy woman is confident about her own body. she's sexy and she knows it! she doesnt ask anyone else, "does this make me look fat"? supposing that the person will answer out of luv. "if you have to ask, you dont want to know!" heck, a sexy lady is so sexy and confident that she knows in her heart she would want to *date herself*. does that make any sense? if you understand that zen concept, you're on your way!

next in the jennifer luv hewett article, we hear that shes exercising heavily so she can be "ready" for her nude scenes. oh yeah, great! look, ladies, if you want to be at the very top of the list, you have to imagine yourself something like a feminine magician. and, as everyone knows, #1 rule of magic is *the magician never reveals her secrets*. if you are lamenting about "getting ready" for your scenes to some sympathetic interviewer, it might make you feel a little better, the same way you lament about your life to a shrink! but girls, *the public is not your shrink*.

ok, so maybe the *female* public will bond with you over you being human also... but the *male* public does not want to commiserate with you about your struggles with bfs, or shedding those pounds to get ready for a role. a stratosphere-elite icon comes *camera ready* and you dont have any idea how she did it. thats part of the allure, the magic fairy dust, the energetic aura surrounding her....

next, more somewhat contradictory advice. the sexy woman is not *high maintenance*. holy cow, has anyone heard how much kim kardashian goes to the hairdresser, and how long? it would be an understatement to call her "high maintenance", shes more like "stratospheric maintenance". so, maybe you spend lots of quality time with your beautician (dont you love that word? combines *beauty* with *technician*!) but please, dont tell us men about it!

next, the goddess isnt *negative*. she doesnt complain about anything! not only is she a goddess but she has an entire life worthy of a goddess! women who complain about stuff all day long-- again, a dime a dozen. those arent goddesses, they're DIVAs, and thats like the 3rd rail for guys. bzzzzzzt!

anyway, hope you have enjoyed a few of these thoughts. obviously goddesses are quite rare, there are only 100 on the maxim list out of 7 billion people. thats an exquisitely rarefied plateau. stratospheric! no wonder they are paid like queens. but hey, we can all aspire to greatness. heres to all women, and the guys who like to date 'em. we can use all the aspects and recipes and secrets of elite goddesses in our own lives. they all apply! and remember, some of those goddesses on the list are only *simulated*. in real life, you might not really want to be around one, for many of the reasons outlined above! world class goddesses, or world class divas? all that bountiful beauty helps us remember--whats inside really does matter.
