Okay, I'm going to say it in public. The Republican attack on women's health care is really a jobs program. If they can return us to the bad old days when women had no control over our fertility, they can roll back the Equal Opportunity laws. They don't have to create any new jobs if they can eliminate 50% of the eligible candidates.

Those of us who are old enough remember "Help Wanted-Male" and "Help Wanted-Female" columns in the newspaper. All the good jobs were in the "Male" column. Women were excluded because "they'll only get pregnant and quit" and "men need money to raise their families, women are working for 'pin money.'" Women could be excluded from the hiring process, and could be fired if they became pregnant.

I even remember, the first office I worked in, maternity benefits were only offered to married men. We can't go back to those days. All the Republican nattering about "protecting the unborn" is about kicking women out of the workforce.

http://www.nj.com/news/jjournal/bayonne/index.ssf?%2Fbase%2Fnews-6%2F129870511511580.xml&coll=3

The Governor of NJ has just decided to close my Primary Care provider, along with 57 others like it. Just like that, thousands of women who rely on this facility for everything from cancer treatment to blood pressure meds are SOL.

For the past 40 years, when I was between insurances and needed care, they provided it. I even went there when I had insurance, because the care was good. Now I'm a widow who can't get health insurance, and Christie is taking it away from me and thousands of other NJ women who relied on the clinics for our primary care.

For those of you who voted for him: I TOLD YOU SO!!!!

I went to a psychic party on Saturday and got "called out" by the medium in charge. "Why are you taking a reading instead of giving one?" he asked.

As a young woman, I dabbled. My family had strong beliefs in the unseen world, and I had the privilege of accompanying them to visit several well-known psychics. My readings were always vivid, and I was encouraged to pursue my talents, so I bought a deck of Tarot cards and gave readings for several years. Then came the reading that scared me.

Although I used the cards for guidance, my talent is to connect with the energies surrounding the other person. One night, a new acquaintance asked for a reading. This young man's brother had been shot down in enemy territory and was listed as MIA. He specifically asked me to go there, and the Universe answered. His brother had crossed over, and was no longer living on the physical plane.

I was overwhelmed by the responsibility the Universe laid on my shoulders, to tell this beautiful man that his beloved brother was gone. I put away the cards. However, I still found myself occasionally blurting out the messages I received, but in a gentle way. For instance, I was sitting next to a guy at a bar, carrying on one of those general conversations one does on first meeting someone, when I suddenly said, "You're a sculptor, aren't you?" He was.

Back to Saturday, and my abrupt recall to the world of spiritual energy. I was advised to stop using any kind of artistic cards, too distracting from my energy sources. "What should I use?" I asked. "ANYTHING else!" he said.

I've been meditating, connecting with my guides in the other world, and for now I'm using crystals. I'll be signing up for psychic fairs. The other thing I was told: "Find people with money who will pay for readings."

Wish me luck! Even better, send some positive energy in my direction, please!

A few months ago I was walking on Central Park West toward Strawberry Fields when a group of young men asked if I could show them "where John Lennon died." They were musicians from Finland, in town only a few days to play a festival, and spoke pretty good English, compared to my non-existant Finnish.

Since I'm old enough to be their grandma, I gave them a little tour of the neighborhood, the Imagine mosaic and The Dakota, which IMHO is one of the most beautiful residential buildings in NYC. I emphasized that the location is important because that's where the Lennons *lived,* where John and Yoko raised Sean, where all his later work was done, and where Yoko still keeps an apartment.

His death was a tragedy, his life was a celebration . We should remember the good times. Imagine!
