A hurried search for a grocery item leads to a photo opportunity that might have been missed. The grocery has laid in a loverly collection of British foods, including this:

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

The challenge is for the roving photo reporter to get the shot without being observed, and to move on as if nothing was out of order in the slightest degree. Thank God for the HTC Thunderbolt.

Microwaveable, you say? ~r
And in a can too. I would have thought they would have gone with something clear....r
Actually Spotted Dick is quite the tasty treat... better than Pissy Kidney Pie.
I didn't know it was a sponge pudding. I really thought it was sausage.

Okay, laugh now and get it over with.
Welllll, the spots are clearly visible on the label, sooooooooo... Gotta love those British food names. What were they thinking?

Lezlie
Yum.

Or something.
I've known about it for years, but thought that it was like Italian Pannetone...a cake with fruit throughout. The worse part is that they put custard on it! What is wrong here?
Could they have made a more unappealing label, all crackly brown and liver-spotted, and it even appears to be curling away from the can. Food labels show the product inside looking much better than it actually does. If it looks that bad on the label, just imagine......
Spongy, too. I'd be embarrassed.
Those vibratin' cock rings accomplish the same thing as having spots on your thangy.
The Brits are our superiors in several ways, including wit.
They know what they are doing.
They astound me, as females, with a clean pure place to rest.
they challenge me, as males, with a most literate back&forth.

They end up rather questioning their Empire after extended
contact with me, alas.

Their empire is one of correct polite ironic truth.
but we americans can swing that shit easy.
yah?
Why would they put a sexually transmitted disease in a can?

(They sell this at World Market, and I admit, I snicker every time I see it.)
Ahhh! Now I see why the lettering is so large! Less pudding to show. Now I have to try some. Anything that gross looking has to be good...the suet, however, is the major roadblock. There has to be a lot of apple, raisins or plums for me to eat any suet.
Well, since the Brits have called it that since before there was an Amerika, they can hardly be blamed for not knowing that one day some idiot Yank would refer to his private parts as his "dick" or that that term would catch on among the unlettered and unwashed of this continent.

;-)
.
Not even going to get close to what's in those cans, however.. yes, had you been caught taking a picture of the product you probably would have been given rather snappish treatment - thinking you to be a comparison shopper - not as benign as it sounds, usually means someone from the competition checking prices - which is seriously frowned upon, near bad as a shoplifter :D.

Rated for bravery.
Yeee! I was going to sign up as one of those. It pays pretty well. But of was obvious that stores are not happy about it. It gave me stress to take this photo!
If they would have named it Diseased Penis it wouldn't be marketable. Fruit Cake in a Can would be a non-seller also. Actually it doesn't taste bad and no I didn't purchase it but I do know Brits who do buy it and consume it. You got balls taking that picture Zuma....o/e we have weinies and beans in a can.
So funny. I can just imagine you taking that photo!
OK. Thing is. I read "Spotted Duck."

Maybe it's cuz I'm a guy . . . .
"See Jane run! Run Jane RUN!"
I myself am a blood pudding afficionado (just kidding).
Is there unspotted as well?
Wow, microwaveable spotted dick, eye level, how clever.
Sponge pudding? Now you have me curious.
rated with love
And pricey too...!

I hear ya on the not being SPOTTED taking pics! LOL!!
I had spotted dick once. The doctor may have told me to microwave it. He X-rayed it. Same thing right? :D
That is hilarious, and yes I agree: That is just WRONG! lol.
'Fess up! You know you want some!
Spotted ey? Always liked tigers better than leopards.....hahahahahaha! what a find! eeeeeeech!
Wow! Serendipitously funny! Just yesterday my mom mentioned eating spotted dick and asked me if I knew what that was. The words "spotted dick" coming out of my mother's mouth was enough to make me laugh out loud! Not sure her version is the same as this though. Hers is just plain flour and water that was eaten during the depression when food was scarce.
I just KNEW that there would be fans of this stuff! Now I will have to try some...still not doing the custard, though.
You know, those of us who actually have spotted dicks don't take this sort of thing lightly.
