Demand the right to Anti-Vote!!

Rate: 6 Flag

Have you ever gone to the polls, looked at the list of people you were going to vote for and thought to yourself;

I don't like any of these sunzabitches!!

It's times like these that I wish I was a party loyalist.  With no thought beyond recognising the (R)  (D) you can vote party line and walk out in mere moments.  Heck, here in PA, they line them up so all you have to do is click 1 (R) or 1 (D) and not even have to look at the names.

 But I just can't, I just can't.

Clinton drove me from the DNC and Bush made me flee the RNC.

I'm still a registered Rep, if you are not a member of the (R) or (D) here in PA you don't get to vote in the primaries.  (nice huh.  Independents had thier right to vote removed.)

So here I am, with a long list of names.  All  boasting they created jobs, all saying the other is lying and lost jobs.  All saying they can or did lower the debt, all saying the other is lying. on and on and on andonandonandon....

Makes me not want to vote.

But I consider my right to vote a duty.  But don't we also have the duty to vote for who we not just feel will do the best job, but also know?

So how do you know?  answer;  YA DON'T

So do you vote for the person that's not as big a jackass as the other people?  answer; Yeah, ya do.  (sucks, doesn't it)

So I demand the right to ANTI-VOTE!!

Imagine the endless joy of voting AGAINST some one.  Think about it.  You're tired of being a party hack, you don't want to vote for your guy, but you can't bring yourself to vote for the other guy or the 3rd guy.  So you TAKE a vote away from the worst guy.

Most people on OS are liberals, so I will put this in a more personnal way.

Imagine the joy you would have had during the last election of literally punching in an anti-vote for McCain/Palin.  I'm talking about leaning WAY back on dropping the elbow smash right down on top of him.  Or did tapping Obama give you more joy?

You getting all weepy just thinking about it?

This reminded me that when I lived in Lancaster I wanted to register as an independent but couldn't. I'll be glad when the election is over-r.
i recommend an email to the dnc or rnc: "i'll vote for your party when citizen initiative is at the top of your platform."

if they get enough of these emails, you can vote for ideas you like, and against ideas you don't like. it's a great idea, called 'democracy.'
Peter,
Well I'm glad to see you think it's not horrible. That' puts it just below "Not bad".]

Sarah,
You couldn't even register?! That blows. You'd think that would fall under the right to flip the bird, uhm Freed speech

al,
You typed that last word to fast.

I like that idea, maybe we should give that a try.
The lesser of two evils is the norm, not the exception.

The most interesting result of the system you suggest would be the likely prospect of the winner of an election having a negative number of votes, just not as deeply negative as the count for (well, against) his/her opponent.
I've always been curious about the thought process of someone who was fed up with Clinton and so became a Republican voting for bush....and then a democrat voting for Obama (?)

I can't say I personally feel weepy about voting for or against anyone these days. But I do occasionally get weepy when I think about the future of our country.

yea. Just saying.
I like this idea, but I think preference-voting is the best system. You list the available candidates from best to worst (or more accurately, from horrible to unthinkably disastrous) and they assign points based on that. If you really REALLY don't want McCain/Palin you put them at the bottom of your list, below all the third-party candidates. That's just as effective as actively voting against them.
Good analysis. Anyone who doesn't feel a sort of depression about the available choices isn't paying attention. The last time I voted with a sense of genuine enthusiasm was for Barry Goldwater.

However, in my opinion, Obama has provided a mandate to vote, perhaps not for, but certainly against. Of course some of the Republican candidates are unworthy of enthusiastic support. We vote for them not as potential legislators or leaders, but rather as voting machines to halt or at least slow down the morbid policies of Obama and his gang of collectivists.

Anyone with a memory of the glory of America cannot anti-vote. In other times, it might be an acceptable course, but not now.
Not trying to be difficult, but I see voting as a priviledge not an obligation..as much as I would grab a weapon and fight next to my neighbor if under attack, I do not vote. I know that immediately makes me bad, but I am not going to pick the lesser evil, I believe in truth and true loyalty and I NEVER see it in the political arena. I am still patriotic, as you know, but some would say I am not, because of this. (Good to have you back)
Well, at this point I'm all for anything that changes the system, as long as the change doesnt include computers that can be hacked or are pre-programmed to change my anti-vote to a positive one for X.
I don't vote. The whole political process, democracy and all that crap is a farce.

I see it as my duty not to vote to show my true contempt for the system. Imagine if no one showed to to vote, that would be a wonderful thing, like a great big middle finger.
delores: He never said that he voted for Bush or Obama only that they drove him to the other party. Maybe he voted for Nader and not Obama!
MM I'm not sure I follow your logic of not voting for anybody to "show your contempt" for the system. If the system is that bad, then why live here? Wouldn't it be better to at least run yourself? Okay, maybe running for the presidency is a bit overboard but I think you get my drift. Just giving up and not voting at all seems to me to be forfeiting any right to complain about the system at all. Just a thought.
