Kosh's Open Call: Getting To Know Trilogy

Rate: 21 Flag

After three years of writing on Open Salon, there are some fabulous posts that get buried or posters who are new, or those I just did not discover until much later.  I have already discovered some new writers and some great old posts because of Koshersalaami’s Open Call.

He states:

“I'm not asking what your readers liked. I'm asking which of your posts best represent what you want your new readers to know about you.”

I boiled mine down to my Interests:  Memoir, Music, Genealogy, Poetry.  I tend to write “3 parters” but I will link to only part 1.  If you are interested, feel free to continue.

My First submission has to be the reason I found Open Salon in the first place.

1.        I Was An Online Stalker

This is true; this is how I found Open Salon.  I then fell in love with the place and have never left.  I     continued on to write of my other obsessions.

Memoir:  I’ve been writing the story of my life, for my whole life (at least it seems).  Discovering Open Salon has given me the best outlet & let me discover that I am not alone in my experiences.  That, too, is great comfort.

2.        The Unforgotten Series (Part 1)

3.       Tales of A Sales Man (Part 1)

4.      Lured   (To The Cult) (Part 1)

5.       Going Home Series (the Suicide)

6.      Losing My Religion

My other Obsession has been Genealogy.  I started in about 1996 (long before Ancestry.Com was what it is today).  I spent hours at the National Archives looking at micro-fiche (which makes me REALLY appreciate Ancestry.Com) and put together many branches of my family tree.  The one I’m most proud of is the Italian side, where I not only retraced back to the 1600’s, I finally went to visit the town where my grandfather was born in 2010 and met living relatives I didn’t know existed.  I’ve got many posts of that trip too.

7.         My Obsession:  Genealogy

Music is very important to me.  Growing up in NYC in the 60’s opened up a lot of experiences (ahem!)

8.       Ode To the Filmore East

And finally, one thing that I discovered after writing on OS for a while is that I loved poetry.  I had never really written poetry;   Dabbled a little in my 20’s.  But I discovered I loved to write it.  I have taken down much of it over the past 3 years,  but here is one example, and a poem that is very meaningful to me.

9.       Imagine (Poetry)

Thanks Kosh for this opportunity to look back and re-live the past three years on Open Salon

Oh Wait....One More Obsession!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Make that 2)

The baby images, just made my day! Never had heard of an online stalker, before.

Music, poetry, friends, and family are so important to me too, Trilogy, good to know you!
Dear Marlene I’ve been reading you a year before I became a member of OS
Reread lured and it still blows my mind
My goodness those babies are just so cute
~R~
I'll start by saying You're Welcome and also
Thank you. Your work is new to me and I'm really enjoying it. This is a great way to get oriented. Once in a while I get a good idea and this was one.

There's so much here I don't know where to start. That I had no idea the Fillmore East was so small? I'm a couple of years younger than you are and I moved out of Rockland County (to the DC area) in the summer of 1970. You hit a great musical period. I saw a lot of great music in the few years after that but most of it wasn't rock. I was in college in Ohio in a venue about half the size of the Fillmore East if that seeing Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball (and Nat) Adderly about a week before his death, and Duke Ellington with his orchestra several months before his death, all in a single school year.

Never actually researched geneology. Knew a lot of my ancestors, though. I mean that literally: when I was a kid, I not only had all my grandparents, I had five living great-grandparents. No great-greats, though I understand some people do.

Played in a jazz band for a while as a kid of about 15 and once played for kids at Rockland State Hospital. It was a bit prison-like. I'm giving you the impression I'm really into jazz. More into rock, actually, and playing in my first bar band now, at my age.

The stalker story is amazing.

Religion is a very different topic for me. I like mine because it is so opposite of what yours was. Not that it's unfriendly, but if you aren't thinking, you're doing it wrong.

Pleased to meet you. At least in any substantive way.
Shameless Grandma Blogging! I knew it! I'll pour you a drink right now, it's 4:30, is that late enough?
Christine, so now I'm caught on Facebook & OS whiles till at work...woops.
Kosher et al: I'll answer when I get home. (with drink in hand)
Tril, I read most of those posts and through doing so I got to know you better. I think losing My Religion was something we both hooked on. Remember? I posted the song in relation to something (a post now long gone in one of my house cleaning spurts). Btw, your new obsession is pretty sweet.
I remember many of these posts, Tril, and those adorable baby photos look familiar, too.
Oh what a cute baby. You are a prolific and accomplished writer and I am glad you found OS.
The cult story was very creepy, I remember looking at your av and trying to connect what I'd read from you and who you were in the past. Reading poetry was something I'd never done before joining OS and I skipped it all the time. Imagine was beautiful and I'm grateful to see another part of you.

God the twins are adorable and growing up way too fast.
Olga: Good to know you too. Glad my (grand)babies made your day
Mary: I had no idea you were reading here for a year before you joined. Glad you finally did - & look forward to meeting you in person in the fall.
Kosh: I'll pm you/
Scarlett: I so appreciate those who've read me from the beginning...as I have read your posts. Yes, I remember the "Losing My Religion" post. Hoping, too we meet up at the Falls in the Fall!!
Matt & Zanelle: thanks so much for being here
Thanks Bleue: That's why I find this place fascinating. There's always another layer to people.
Marlene, we've got to have a metro area OS meet-up with those two cute babies!!! Nice to see your interesting posts listed here from earlier days--lots of fond memories evoked with your list!
I'm a bona fide member of the Marlene Fan Club. Good job!!!
Thanks John...I don't know about flying those bundles cross country (at least on my dime..ha!) But I would certainly love to do it again soon. I'm thankful for your friendship these past three years & look forward to the next meet-up.
Amy: Wow. Thank you. (& vice versa)
As I read through I pondered on the story each of those links contained ... I remember reading most if not all of them. I then re-read "Imagine" and the comment I left there .... another big sigh, I'm afraid.

I'm glad you and I can't really imagine, tril. We are lucky.

And so very lucky we are too to be blessed with grandbabies!!!! Those little angels are adorable. I can't help but smile. Grandbabies are just so good for the soul!
I liked the one you write about your brother. I think there were a couple of them.. and Tales of a salesman. Happy 4th..HUGGGGGGGG
Marlene, you and I have been tried and trie friends for quite some time, and I am blessed to be able to share with you and you with me!
The baby pics make me jealous, but what the hey....maybe someday. :)
A grandmother who once was an online stalker... oh, I am very glad to meet you through your writingsp,Trilogy . The angel babies such a ρresent to all of us!!!

Trilogy, to be honest, I needed, this list. So many good works, get lost in OS, and now, I have such great reading to do. Thank you for sharing, but most of all for writing.
Thanks, this got me to your fine Fillmore East piece -I'll check out others when I have time.
The baby pictures show the innocence we all were born with. Magnificent!

I like like you...you're a good soul.
Kate - yes, we share a lot - both good & bad. I've been blessed to call you a friend, whom I shall someday meet in person.
Linda: thanks, thge ones about my brother (Unforgotten) were among my favorites. Happy Canada Day!
JD: I believe you were my very FIRST comment three years ago. I thank you for your continued friendship. People like you make it all worth while here.
Stathi: That made me laugh..Grandma who was an Online Stalker.
Luminious: Why am I not surprised you liked the Filmore posts!
Blinddream: Why thank you - you are so sweet.
I love this OC idea of Kosh's and I can't wait to read the posts of yours that I've missed!
Okay..I love all your reasons. But the last two are PRICELESS> They are soooo beautiful. I hope to get the opportunity to meet them in person this summer. xo
yep, those posts are the maureen i got to know and value as an invisible friend. and - look! - the girls' hair is getting longer! sweet things with their blue eyes. no wonder you can't resist. :)
Trilogy, it just occurred to me that I had not acknowledged here, on this post, that I super enjoyed the story of your involvement with a cult that you describe so well in Lured. I wouldn't have known about those posts if you had not answered KS's OC. Once I started reading I could not stop and stayed up past my bed time to read all three parts. Well written and fascinating story.
