After three years of writing on Open Salon, there are some fabulous posts that get buried or posters who are new, or those I just did not discover until much later. I have already discovered some new writers and some great old posts because of Koshersalaami’s Open Call.
He states:
“I'm not asking what your readers liked. I'm asking which of your posts best represent what you want your new readers to know about you.”
I boiled mine down to my Interests: Memoir, Music, Genealogy, Poetry. I tend to write “3 parters” but I will link to only part 1. If you are interested, feel free to continue.
My First submission has to be the reason I found Open Salon in the first place.
This is true; this is how I found Open Salon. I then fell in love with the place and have never left. I continued on to write of my other obsessions.
Memoir: I’ve been writing the story of my life, for my whole life (at least it seems). Discovering Open Salon has given me the best outlet & let me discover that I am not alone in my experiences. That, too, is great comfort.
2. The Unforgotten Series (Part 1)
3. Tales of A Sales Man (Part 1)
4. Lured (To The Cult) (Part 1)
5. Going Home Series (the Suicide)
My other Obsession has been Genealogy. I started in about 1996 (long before Ancestry.Com was what it is today). I spent hours at the National Archives looking at micro-fiche (which makes me REALLY appreciate Ancestry.Com) and put together many branches of my family tree. The one I’m most proud of is the Italian side, where I not only retraced back to the 1600’s, I finally went to visit the town where my grandfather was born in 2010 and met living relatives I didn’t know existed. I’ve got many posts of that trip too.
Music is very important to me. Growing up in NYC in the 60’s opened up a lot of experiences (ahem!)
And finally, one thing that I discovered after writing on OS for a while is that I loved poetry. I had never really written poetry; Dabbled a little in my 20’s. But I discovered I loved to write it. I have taken down much of it over the past 3 years, but here is one example, and a poem that is very meaningful to me.
9. Imagine (Poetry)
Thanks Kosh for this opportunity to look back and re-live the past three years on Open Salon
Oh Wait....One More Obsession!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Make that 2)

Thank you. Your work is new to me and I'm really enjoying it. This is a great way to get oriented. Once in a while I get a good idea and this was one.
There's so much here I don't know where to start. That I had no idea the Fillmore East was so small? I'm a couple of years younger than you are and I moved out of Rockland County (to the DC area) in the summer of 1970. You hit a great musical period. I saw a lot of great music in the few years after that but most of it wasn't rock. I was in college in Ohio in a venue about half the size of the Fillmore East if that seeing Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball (and Nat) Adderly about a week before his death, and Duke Ellington with his orchestra several months before his death, all in a single school year.
Never actually researched geneology. Knew a lot of my ancestors, though. I mean that literally: when I was a kid, I not only had all my grandparents, I had five living great-grandparents. No great-greats, though I understand some people do.
Played in a jazz band for a while as a kid of about 15 and once played for kids at Rockland State Hospital. It was a bit prison-like. I'm giving you the impression I'm really into jazz. More into rock, actually, and playing in my first bar band now, at my age.
The stalker story is amazing.
Religion is a very different topic for me. I like mine because it is so opposite of what yours was. Not that it's unfriendly, but if you aren't thinking, you're doing it wrong.
Pleased to meet you. At least in any substantive way.
Kosher et al: I'll answer when I get home. (with drink in hand)
God the twins are adorable and growing up way too fast.

The baby pics make me jealous, but what the hey....maybe someday. :)
