WINTER SOLSTICE 12/21/12

THE END OF THE WORLD?

 wintersun

Photo:  Liz Corbett (Liz 77 on OS)

There have been, perhaps millions

Of these longest of days

But, this may be last

In a number of ways

Of earth as we know it

Of life gone before

When living through cold

Meant gathering and store

To prevent the starvation

On the long and dark days

The famines of winter

Killed in so many ways.

Now here in this year

Two thousand and twelve

the day of the solstice of winter arrives.

(Though at which precise moment, it is hard to tell)

I was “Just Thinking”

Will the next step be heaven?

Or will it be hell?

Will the “famines of winter”

Mean no air to breath

Or a massive combustible

Orb that will leave

               Nothing behind?

Shall I worry of pain

Shall I fear the slaughter?

Will we all go insane

Lacking food and water?

Or wake up to the sun

another day in the life

While humanity continues

a millennium or two

With all that’s within me,

I hope that is true.

Here you go, JD. Of course, OS would not let me format today. So, what else is new! thanks for the challenge - you don't know how much I needed that.
Bravo well done!!! You make it look easy :)
I know it's not...
Trilogy,a brilliant ρoem!!!Well done and rated!!
trilogy,
Brilliant! You have real talent!

(Here's a trick you can use when OS formatting goes wonky: Write and format in Word. Convert your word doc to a jpeg photo. Edit the photo to trim the margins off. Insert that photo in the usual way. Voila! Your formatting!)
.
Well done!
Did you have fun?

A germane poem, Trilogy. Poetry is your forte and it's nice to read your work again. I hope you write more.
R♥
I haven't read JD's challenge yet, but I read this, and Poor Woman's.

Sounds like a challenge to live. I am with you, trilogy :

"I hope that is true," too.

Our children and their children are counting on it to be true.

Lovely piece ~ love the sun ~ thank you.
Well you sure broke that writer's block in a big way, tril! Well done!

AND (wink wink!) I like that hope remains in your poem.

You know, I'm really, REALLY getting worried 'cos I tried to sit down last night to write and I can't seem to get 'unblocked'! I'm SOOOOO stuck!

JD sure is going to have one heck of a counter-challenge on his hands when I'm done with this one!

Okay, well, I think I'll procrastinate a little more ... AND get my head out of OS AND do get back to work!!!
Thanks Lunchlady. Always good to see you
Stathi: Thanks for the kind words
Skypixie: What a brilliant suggestion. I can't wait to try it.
Mary: Yes, it was fun
Fusun: Thanks - I hope to write more!
Kim, yes it was a challenge to write about the Myan prediction of the end of the world on Dec 21st. I don't expect to be going anywhere.
Little Kate: YOU CAN DO IT!! Now get back to work (wink, wink)
Haunting questions and hopes! I haven't seen JD's challenge. Now I want to find out what it is.
Thanks for inspiring me, Trilogy, you are the best.
"a massive combustible orb"....
loved that!
and the whole thing--nicely done :)
Tril : You needed it? Well...I needed to read it! You have a real talent my friend, and it certainly shows here!

Thanks for participating and knocking one up against the wall!!!
@ Tril .... whilst I've been working, in the back of my mind there is this poem that I just HAVE to write! Sheesh!

Truth is, I'm glad JD has challenged me 'cos I need to get past this block but I'm a terrible perfectionist sometimes and I just want to do my utmost best to do this right. I think in the end I'll tell myself what I often tell myself ... "Just write from the heart... "
Thought provoking words and perfect rhyming. Well done.
Late for the party but a grand read which makes one think of many aspects to the possible end.
The closer we get to 12/12/12 the less I worry. However, I am going to be home for Xmas for the first time in years.

I figure, better safe than sorry.

Wonderful poem, filled with your deepest musings. Lovely!
Wow. This is just excellent -- and just how I've been feeling too.

That Solstice moment 2012 is actually the one moment the rays of sunrise shine right through the "cleft" in the Milky Way that looks like a womb--it's only in this exact place every 25,000+ years, hence the changing of the eras in ancient Maya world. They charted the heavens and knew more than we do now about how affected we are by the movement of the stars and by solar flare cycles...they thought Venus (who's been front and center in the sky lately) was a bad portent....
...eek?
I hope that is it true too. Thanks to your words have made me feel better. Your a poet!
I liked the opening image as well.
Thanks Algis - you must check out Liz777's blog - Link is up top under the picture,.
I really enjoyed your take on the end of the world - especially the ending!
This just might be the year I do my Christmas shopping early. I think it's interesting we pay attention to the Mayan calendar and blow off Rapture Guy. Let's hope they are both wrong! Nice work here. /R
