GETTING OLD...ER

Rate: 25 Flag

 “Songs to aging children come
 Aging children, I am one"
        Joni Mitchell

A child of six

…..innocence
The world is alive

…..possibilities
butterflies…and bugs

870436child-flying-a-kite-at-sunset-3

Sixteen
innocence (not so much)
But possibilities still.
The crowd smoking pot in the park
The guy wanting into your pants after dark

Possibilities
abound

Twenty-six
Teenage angst turns to grown up things
there’s rent to pay - It’s not all play –
got to get a stinking job
with that
Philosophy major?
What was I thinking?

Remember how we couldn’t wait to be older?
All grown up like mom and dad.
No boundaries no rules
Masters of our own destinies
The world is our oyster
The canvass is clean

Possibilities
abound .

Ahhh.  Adulthood.

36 – 46 – 56 ----------

Songs to aging children come
Aging children, I am one”

I feel a theme coming on.
I liked this and am looking forward to the continuance...Masters of our own destinies, indeed!
Swiftly flies the Sweet Bird of Youth, which like love is wasted on the young. I've reached the age when I'm partial to George Carlin's idea that God got it backwards -- we should come into this world old and go out of it with an orgasm.
Mmmmm...this was such goodness.
Yikes. It's going by way too fast.

"...his dreams have lost some grandeur
coming true --
There'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams,
and plenty,
Before the last revolving year is through."
Nice, trilogy.

PS: I was a smart one. I only *minored* in philosophy. I majored in journalism--at a time when everyone wanted to be Woodward and Bernstein. Actually, it might have been easier to get a job with a philosophy degree...
Trilogy, bingo! You zeroed right in on so much here. "Remember how we couldn’t wait to be older?"--I recall thinking about that so much when I was young!
Can't wait to read the next installment...
You and Joni sure have this one right!
Perhaps a slight change at the end, to "Oy! Adulthood!"
Haha! Reality can be humbling, no?
I'm intrigued too....
I want to be Joni when I grow up.
Truer words...very nice.
To me your avatar symbolizes how I feel about getting older. I'm with Tom - love is wasted on the young. If a obtaining a degree in the mistakes of youth were possible, I'd be a PhD.

Getting old...er? Bring it on!
" Philosophy major?
What was I thinking?"

I'm not sure--- but the good news is---it is the "thinking" major.

Two days ago, I raised a glass to one of our fellow Caps---she of the alternative ending. She would have/should have been turing a year younger than me.

Here's to many more trips around the sun together, Tril.
I love this. Please PM me when part 2 is posted.
The thing is... the things is. . .
that You couldn't write like this.
I must be regressing to "Youth".
apologies.

Very nice!
The sad thing is, I remember being a child and thinking anyone over 30 was old. I also remember wanting to be a grown-up--what the hell was I thinking????
;-)
Peter Pan has it right.
56? Sounds like you're halfway there.
And there's no telling them, the Youth, that is. They have ears but cannot hear.

What am I not hearing now?
mypsyche: Masters of our own destinies indeed. too bad it couldn't be "creators of our own destinies"
Tom: I like that Carlin idea..especially the "going out" part
Thanks for stopping Sparking
Barking: We'll have to talk (I think we live in the same area)
Steven: THATS the Joni Mitchell Song I was thinking of - thanks for that
Frank (if you can keep a secret....I didn't really get the degree...it just fit in the story nicely)...shhh....
Designantor & Stacye & Chicago Guy: thanks for joining me here
my reverie
Pilgrim: Oy! would be great I felt like I've used that word alot lately. It's one of my favorites. My mother actually had to correct me last time I used it (Oye!) told me I spelled it wrong. geeezz
Yes Michale, humbling
And Chuck & Mary...Intriguing...hope I can come up with something good to follow up :) :) Thanks for coming.
Skeltnwmn: You'r prettier
Smithery: I thought about putting up my real picture. Seems to be a trend lately. But I too, for now, like my avitar the way it is.

m.a. h: Read my response to Frank. Hope I didn't disappoint you but I'm sure we can still find alot to talk about!!
Thanks Roger - Will do
Thanks Spotted & Boomer - Don't trust anyone over 30. Now I wouldn't trust anyone UNDER 30.
FusunA: I was insulted...for a second....but accept your apology (ha ha) it must be an age thing.
Ohhh Sheepdog: I'll take 56!!!!
Thanks Connie: All that loud music, they can't hear anything....oh wait a minute...I guess they can say the same thing about us.
Love this! Can't wait to see the next one. Well done!
Rated.
OH I love this AND your new banner! Tre Chic! Can't wait for you to continue....
Thanks Unbreakable. I can't wait to see the next one too. :)
And your so observant LL2. I just changed it this afternoon. Been playing around but can't figure out how to move the words. I'll be playing around some more
A beautiful and poignant theme! Keep it going!
"All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players..."
nice teaser ending - like those old cliff hangers...
Just Cathy, Steve & Nova - thanks for stopping by. Hope I can make "aging" interesting. At least everyone can relate one way or another!
You and Joni both put a lump in my throat. r
joan H. I'm assuming that's a "good thing"?
Read these in reverse order. My car got stuck on the West Side Drive late one Memorial day evening, because my boyfriend's car did not have a gas mileage meter; we held up traffic for hours. Everyone wanted to kill us. We were also stoned. Youth. It was fun. for sure.
