Bio
I am a simple man who has lived a simple life for sixty years. I have not dined with movie stars nor Kings and Queens. I have not walked the halls of power, nor have I been a mover and a shaker. I have, however, been a soldier, a tinker, a jack of all trades. I have raised five children....I have been loved and I have loved. I do not see grand designs nor do I chase afer them. Instead, I listen to the heartbeat of the land and I rejoice in a bird's song in the morning. Do not come here seeking answers for I have none. I do have questions which I will ask you constantly though. I do not believe in aruging so Politics will not be discussed in my blog. I do not care what your personal beliefs are for you are free to believe as you will...please allow me to do likewise. I have never been rich, but I have always been poor. Being poor however has never stopped me from feeling rich. I feel rich because I have the love of a good woman. Melinda completes me. She gives me the peace of mind and soul required to write about life without regrets and without envy of those who might have more. She is my world. Almosta Ranch is our heaven and we are happiy. This is what I want to share with you in this blog.

Life Abides on Almosta Ranch

Rate: 36 Flag

This Winter has been exceptionally tough on many of us and for a variety of reasons.  It is understandable that, when faced with never-ending snow and cold, not to mention personal tragedies, we begin to believe there will never be a respite.

Thus it was here on Almosta Ranch.  Mel and I both had begun to despair of any relief in this most dreary of seasons.  Then, nature decided to teach us the truth of the phrase: "And this too shall pass..."

It began last week when we noticed the horses coats were beginning to shed...a sure sign that the worse of Winter was over.  Then, just a few days ago we were out feeding the animals when we heard a strange noise in the sky above us. We looked up in time to see a huge flight of Canadian Snow geese, at least a hundred strong, winging  their way North from their Summer homes along the Gulf Coast.

The sight lifted our spirits and made us smile....maybe soon....

Then, yesterday morning when we went out to feed the horse herd we did what we always do and check on the goats who share a pasture with Billy, our Stallion.  This was when we discovered the best sign of all that Winter was almost over, that Life abides, and prospers.

Coco, one of our female goats proudly presented her gifts to Almosta Ranch....and us.

One day old, about a pound apiece.....these two brothers are ready to greet the world!

Life truly does go on in spite of the cruelest Winter.  Remember that.

And now I gotta get out of here....another young female goat and one who has never had a baby before, has decided that today would be a good day to do that. Mel is out there with her right now but I just wanted to stop long enough to tell you about all of this.....this Life on Almosta Ranch.

Those babies and this wonderful poist are worth more than all the gold in this world Torman. Seeing this made my day.
May your world bring forth a rich harvest from the sweat hours you have labored.
TY TY!!
there's not much cuter than a baby goat. spring is around the corner, torman! warmer days on the way? thanks for the happy news.
I adore KIDS ! Hurry back with more good news, Torman.
Too sweet, thanks for sharing.
Oh this is so cool. I love the promise of Spring. And those babies, they are soooo cute. -R-
Love those baby goats! Won't be long till Almosta Ranch is lush with spring green.
Greetings from northwest Wisconsin & Deedon Lake Farm. I was attracted to your blog on account of the compelling name of your place, " Almosta Ranch". So cool! My husband and I are retired from teaching and live on an old dairy farm that we have made over for horses and our pet goats. We began rescuing horses several years ago when we were made aware of some unspeakably terrible conditions and circumstances that horses were enduring. We, of course, can't save them all, and what we have accomplished seems like a mere drop of water in an ocean of need, but, at least we have been a little part of the solution instead of the problem. We even rescued 2 horses from Missouri! Our horse herd numbers 23 including 5 little ponies & a rather large Thoroughbred. We have 100 acres mostly in pasture & hay ground with a barn & several 3 sided shelters for the horses as well as other out buildings. 2 years ago, we were contacted by the local county Sheriff's department about a farm that had been rented & that had then been abandoned by the renters who were some months behind on their rent. They also left behind their livestock! Neighbors called the Sheriff and we were asked to house these critters " temporarily". The animals included 2 horses ( badly malnourished & full of worms), 4 goats and 2 cats. Of course, they are now ours as no one else wanted them! Two of the 4 goats were intact billies and we had them neutered by the vet. I know I am going to enjoy reading your blog and learning what I can about your horse husbandry and goat care. My very best to you and your wife. From another couple who love the farm life.
Thank you, I needed the sunshine in my heart and those babies did it.
Those geese must have been hijacked. There is no sigh of a break in the weather up here in Canuckistan yet! More snow on the way too.....;-(

.
Yep, today's the day for the "old goat" to go out and help bring some "new goats" into the world. Good story, Torman. thanks.
At last . . . the good signs of spring! And those goats are so very sweet!!!
Torman .. I am loving these posts but where is the wee doggie that came into your life?
I now I am an old harping woman haha
rated with hugs
Thank you. It's sunny here and you've given me hope that this long dark winter id finally moving on.
"Hope springs eternal." Beautiful baby goats.
What a wonderful sign of spring!!!!
Aww. Now I see why we humans took to calling our offspring "kids." So adorable.

Twins! that's a little unusual, and must be a harbinger of good luck and a wonderful spring season ahead. When they cry, does it sound like Daddddyyyyyyyy!?
What an absolutely beautiful post! Written so well, it belongs everywhere for everyone.
Oh what fortunate people you are! Thank you for giving us some hope for spring, too! :)
OOOOOOOO, soooooo cute!!!!!! ~BIG RATE~

:) It has been a strange winter here this year, course the temps didn't go down from their hot ones throughout the summer till heck, almost end of December. I think the birds, who usually head out around November, decided 'Ahhhh, fudge it! We're staying!!"

Even during our coldest days, there has been robins, blue jays, cardinals, winging their way around the area.

Which is cool, cause, I like birds, a little garlic, some wine, nummy....what? ;D
How cute are those two? I trust you gave them suitable quirky names.

I guess life on Almosta Ranch is the best lesson in the circle of life. Nothing we can do about any of it except embrace each day.

Hoping the new mother did well. These babies are so blessed to be in the care of you two.
Congrats to you all!
It doesn't get more hopeful than this. Thank you...R

There's nothing more incredible and miraculous than new life and with it comes the most beautiful gifts of joy, love and hope.

Those kids are so very cute, Torman!
"Life truly does go on in spite of the cruelest Winter." Thank you for these words of wisdom.
Yeay, little billie goat boys, there will have to be some poems, a bridge and a troll to come.
Nothing remains the same.

Nothing lasts forever.

And this too shall pass......whether it be good or bad.....
