Willard the Walking Windsock

Rate: 12 Flag

Multi-Mouth MittLike Diogenes, I have so far failed in my attempt to find an honest man – at least in the political arena. I suspect most people long ago gave up the search.

Even the young, once irrepressibly optimistic, are now given to cynicism, including my son TJ.

A couple of nights ago we were watching the news, and a segment highlighted the many diametrically opposed views espoused by Willard “Mitt” Romney and Willard “Mitt” Romney. This led my son to conclude Romney was “a walking windsock”.

I’ve described Romney as flopping around like a freshly-caught flounder on a fishing boat. As the cartoon suggests, he deserves the nickname “Multi-Mouth Mitt”. I hope the DNC has sense enough to pick up on any of these earworms – but I suppose that qualifies as an audacious hope.

My nephew and godson Chris added his own cynical but apt observation about politicians by coining the word “incumbetent” to describe the incompetent Do-Nothings who purport to represent us in Washington. Then again, better a do-nothing legislature than a do-wrong legislature, such as those in Wisconsin, Ohio, Arizona and too many other states bent on undoing choice, impeding voting rights, bashing gays, imprisoning illegals, and gutting child labor laws.

The circumvention of child labor laws puts me in mind of Jonathan Swift’s A Modest Proposal, a brilliant piece of satire I paid homage to with my own modest proposal:

A Modest Proposal

I added my nephew’s “incumbetent” to the entries in my 21st Century Political Dictionary. Politics in post-literate Amerika has so degenerated that dictionary is nearing book-length. How about it publishers? It’s gotta do better than Snooky’s book. Hell, I bet it’d do better than Palin’s latest.

There are so many new entries in this dictionary; I think it deserves a repost.

Foreword: In previous lamentations in this outpost of glittering literati, I coined a few terms I felt were essential to an understanding of the changing nature of life in the 21st Century, a time when political skullduggery and financial thievery has devolved to depths that would shame the robber barons of the Gilded Age and the heartless scrooges of Dickensian England.

Herewith, a compilation of some of these inventions, as well as a few terms derived from other sources, in the hope this lexicography will be of some use in dealing with the vicissitudes of existence in this trying time.

 •           •           •

Accountaint – a professional money launderer hired to shelter income from partners, spouses or the government through offshore accounts or other dubious or illegal schemes; one who employs Enronian accounting to disguise toxic assets and to otherwise make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear; see Enron, Worldcom, Arthur Anderson, Lehman Brothers or any financial institution deemed too big to fail

Anti-Social Dissociative Disorder – a virulent reaction to even the mere mention of the word socialism; dissociative disorder is defined as “disruptions or breakdowns of memory, awareness, identity and/or perception”; this disease is highly contagious and is observed in groups at tea parties and townhall meetings; memory loss is evident in that participants cannot remember they benefit from public schools, highways, Social Security, Medicare and myriad other forms of social welfare; see Joe the Plumber (see also groupidity)

Armeanian – a follower of the mean-spirited political philosophy of Dick Armey; see also Freedomjerks

Aynal Retentive – obsessive/compulsive behavior patterns induced in an individual by over-exposure to third-rate economic diatribes by a fourth-rate fiction writer; such persons typically have little experience with the economic realities of the middle and lower classes, and thus have a limited capacity to reconcile theory with practice; see Alan Greenspan, Ron Paul, Rand Paul and Paul Ryan

Badgger – a person who attends town hall meetings only to badger the speaker, thus preventing any exchange of useful information

Bagger – a person who identifies with the Tea Party; also, a person whose reading is limited to Internet and email ranting by gasbags

Bankster – an individual who advocates for deregulated financial markets as a means to greater competition, while using every means legal and otherwise to eliminate competition; banksters are staunch defenders of capitalism except for executive compensation; through ill-advised mergers, banksters create monstrous concentrations of capital and institutions deemed “to big too fail”, while continuing to call such institutions capitalistic; see Lloyd Blankfein, Jamie Dimon, et al

Barker – a politician or pundit who ceaselessly and senselessly barks a party line; see Mitch McConnell, Rush Limbaugh and any employee of F*x News

Bathist – an Americanized corruption of Baathist applied to a reactionary or radical libertarian member of a political party who favors the complete elimination of government; the term may be derived from the expression “throwing the baby out with the bathwater" or from the oft-quoted statement attributed to Grover Norquist: “I don’t want to eliminate government; I just want to get it small enough drown in the bathtub”

Batshitist – an unbalanced person who falls prey to batshit crazy conspiracy theories; Batshitists are more commonly referred to as  Baggers, Beckers, Birchers, Birthers, and Truthers ; see Alex Jones, Michelle Bachmann and Glenn Beck

Conspiridiocy – an addiction to lame-brained conspiracy theories such as those espoused by Birthers and Truthers

Corporatocracy – government of, by and for multi-national corporations

Crapitalism – a perverse and sordid corruption of capitalist economic theory; in The Wealth of Nations, often cited as the Bible of capitalism, Adam Smith described an economic model in which the affluent invest wisely and reward themselves conservatively as a means to achieve the commonweal; under crapitalism, the only responsibility of the affluent is to enrich themselves obscenely and undeservedly at others expense; see Dennis Kozlowski, Bernhard Ebbers, Ken Lay, Bernie Madoff, et al

Dealrivative – a form of financial transaction concocted to turn base metal into gold (see alchemy); dealrivatives are so named because they are derived from The Art of the Deal, also known as The Greater Fool Theory; see CDO or Credit Default Swap for details

Gobblization – the gobbling-up of profits by corporate crapitalists, it can be easily identified by the giant sucking sound that accompanies it; gobblization is the practical effect of an impractical and insanely optimistic economic theory called globalization that holds unrestrained and unregulated flow of capital will ease political tensions by raising wages and living standards in poor countries; in practice, globalization merely exports jobs to low wage countries with poor or non-existent environmental standards and thereby eliminates jobs and lowers wages in developed nations, thus increasing political tensions around the world; defenders of globalization resort to a tired cliché, proclaiming it is "a rising tide that lifts all boats"; but in practice, it is a tsunami that sinks all life-rafts

Groupidity – A behavior pattern exhibited primarily by uneducated individuals who gather in groups of like weak-minded persons at such events as Tea Party rallies; groupidity is a barrier to an open exchange of ideas about complex issues; a common symptom is extremely limited thought and speech patterns such as endlessly repeating slogans like “government is the problem not the solution”, “stay the course”, “support the troops” and “drill, baby, drill”; another symptom is involuntary rejection of social responsibilities; ironically, victims of groupidity also exhibit acute paradoxia, expressed as a vehement advocacy for individual rights while voting like a school of fish; see Paradoxia and Teapartian

Infantasy – a childlike belief in the impossible; for Conservatives, infantasy manifests itself as a desire to return to a Golden Age (usually the Fifties) that never existed; believers delude themselves that Ozzie and Harriet was history rather than a fiction created to push suspect products on unsuspecting consumers at the dawn of the television age; for Liberals, infantasy has its roots in the Utopia of Sir Thomas More and its ultimate expression in the drug-induced hallucinations of Sixties hippy culture that featured cloying songs like Share the Land by the Guess Who

My favorite here has to be "Groupidity".
Wow Tom, you've been at work on this. Good job.
alsoknownas
The word groupidity came to me by way of my friend Ed White, and I thought it was quite apropos for the dictionary
Jeff
Thanks, I don't know about anyone else, but it's taking about 10-15 minutes -- down from a half-hour or more -- to reload a page, so I'm not as active here as I have been. That's probably a welcome relief to those who object to my posts and my comments.
You're a bit harsh on Ron Paul Tom. I agree with most of what you post, but regardless of his unworkable libertarian economic prescriptions, he remains the only major candidate of either party in recent years--other than Dennis Kucinich--to stand firm in principle against the robber barons, banksters and military industrial complex. Can the same be said of Barrack Hussein Obama? I don't think so.
Mighty impressive collection Tom. I'd add the expression "sheep-like" after "follows" in Baaptist to take advantage of the Baa.

And I wonder is something like Bumperist would work. The act of distilling all political principles down to something that fits on a bumper-sticker.
"Incumbetent" is a great addition to the list. And all these words are right on. But for the sheer joy of it rolling off my tongue, I have to say my favorite is "originajest." I can't stop saying it, it's addictive. If these words become part of the language, maybe we could petition to name a new dictionary Merriam-Webster-Cordle. Oh what the hell, Cordle-Merriam-Webster. Those other guys are long dead and couldn't care less.
As I read this I flitted between anger, laughter, contempt and humilyt. My favorite pieces?? Originalest and Originajest....those two you can hang the moon on. I'm going off to find chocolate.... :))
I agree with most of it but what you fail to see, tragically, is that a Gunnut cancels you and everybody who believes as you do out with one pull of the trigger. That is why we will always be on opposite sides of the fence even though I believe your politics to be almost flawless, your distain for conspiracy's and the Constitution aside. You forgot Newt Gingrich in your examples of Invaluid and Liargessist is not nearly descriptive enough for the “new” tea party messiah, unless you want to give him his own category as a Rovebot.
antisocialgrace
Thanks for the kudos. As for Ron Paul, there is something to be said for forthrightness and having the courage of one's convictions. On the other hand, that could be said as well of the Unabomber. Frankly, I agree with some of what the Unabomber had to say about technology and what Lewis Farrakhan had to say about race. But while I can agree with their assessment of the problems, I seldom agree with any of their solutions, which are all too often terroristic or tryannical.

I agree with some of what Ron Paul has to say, especially his stand against unwise and unnecessary wars, the bloated military-industrial complex, and bank bailouts. On that last, in one of my posts, I wrote about finding it strange to be on the same side as Richard Shelby -- who was also against the bailout -- on any issue. Frankly, I'm no fan of the perversion of capitalism under which we currently operate. That's why I call it crapitalism. But if we're going to follow that system, then let's follow it. That is to say, when you fail, you die.

Under that standard, AIG, Bank of America and Citibank -- at least -- should have been buried long ago. Instead, we have the worst of all possible worlds with zombie banks like BofA trying to resurrect itself from the dead with ludicrous customer fees, and AIG suing the federal govt for mismanaging its attempted resurrection -- which as far as I can determine was done largely to bail-out Goldmine Sux.

Paul and other Libertarian Randians suffer from the deluded mythology of the rugged individualist, a myth that didn't hold true even in our frontier days, as I pointed out in my post The Cowboy Way - Unmasking American Myths. Paul makes for entertaining theater, perhaps, but it's a childish, cartoonish notion of freedom.

In a complex, largely urban, industrialized society, the consequence of that notion of freedom is to be free to choose to starve or choose whose hob-nailed boot under which to put your neck.
Abrawang
Thanks for visiting, and thanks for "bumperist", tho I think I'll twist it into "bumperkin" -- a person so slow-witted and unaware their entire weltview can fit on a bumper sticker.
The gall of AIG is rather breathtaking.
I'll take it as a friendly amendment Tom.

Forget Merriam-Webster, I wanna get hooked-up with Funk and Wagnalls

Brazen Princess
I'm with you -- in fact I have a post here called I Love Chocolate

Chicken man
Or is that "bawk, bawk, bawk"?
Heh, a great list of clever word-play. It probably comes as no surprise that I was struck by:

Blackrobitis – a dissociative disease that infects members of the clergy and the courts and leads them to subscribe to an ideology and their own infallibility

Blackrobaphobia – a malady caused by a rational fear of the clergy and the courts wrapping themselves in a cloak of secrecy and infallibility

Romney's chameleon-esque color changing is truly amazing when one considers the obvious video documentation of it all.

RATED
This has breakaway bestseller on amazon's self published list written all over it. I know it's a pain to jump through those hoops of self publishing but this really should be a book.
Nothing is better than these words and their meanings. Your excellent today as always and thanks again.
All worthy additions to the political lexiconservative.

I think you should balance bimbast with mimbast, as the root words bimbo and mimbo describe both sexes and encomp-ass Cain, Santorum and et and al.

How about lobotical? That would describe a politician who could or has gained a tactical advantage from having a lobotomy, i.e. Huntsman.
Jack
I wrote you a rather lengthy reply, but OS ate it. The gist of it was that Gunnuts seem to operate on the idea of eliminating anyone who disagrees. Ultimately, that results in the Last Man Standing. Problem with that is the LMS must either off himself of die a slow, agonizing death from loneliness. Humans are social animals, else we would not have long survived in a harsh world filled with larger, swifter predators.

As for Newt, you inspired me to add another entry in the dictionary:

Newtjob – a soulless, spineless politician who spouts lame-brained positions like getting rid of child labor laws in order to ingratiate himself with real right-wing nutjobs and promote the sale of his fourth-rate books, movies and other shady enterprises
True analogy. If you don't like his positions today, as they say about the weather in New England (and probably elsewhere), stick around, they'll change.

On the other hand he's the only GOP candidate with universal health care on his resume, so I'm surprised he doesn't get just a teensy-weensy bit of positive reaction from OSers.
Turdblossom is my favorite. (I haven't quite given up hope of finding an honest politician, but I still put out milk and cookies for Santa and oats for his reindeer.)
Move over, Daniel Webster!
