Prozac On Paws: The Tale of Three Spayed Females
jewish writer/former screenwriter/recovering accountant from Boston now moldering in the rain in Portland, OR. and, yes, of course i should move but I battle with Agoraphobia and have trouble even leaving my apartment. but i'm blessed to have a fabulous 9 year old service dog Cocoa Chanel. Ella Fitgerald was my Official SD. she was 11 years old and so perky and such a trooper but she passed away in July. Cocoa has been stepping up and taking her job very seriously, which is so moving. so we now have a kitten. he drives us crazy and then he conks out wrapped around cocoa and we forgive him. we thought he was a girl. i named "her" Gloria Steinem and she was a feminist and a feline-est. but it turned out that Gloria's Balls had dropped. so his name is Gary Cooper or G-Coop. as annoying as he is much of the time -- apparently he's a Teenager now -- he takes our focus off of losing Ella, which was my intent when we adopted him.

animals & bikers w/ tattoos? Rescue Ink Unleashed's for you!

Rate: 32 Flag

(if you are down in the dumps and this doesn't make you smile even a little, it's time for a meds check. :) this is my new favorite tv show, well, after Flashforward and the Seinfeld reunion coming up on Curb... new york former bad guys rescuing animals??? i mean, what is better than this? really? okay, i just heard that the Rating thing is broken so no more ranting about people not Rating this post. i want this show to stay on the air and this is my small action. i mean, shit, i'm as depressed as a bipolar 2 gal gets but still trying to share good things with you people. oh, and remember, Folkie Friday starts this week. also considering TV Tuesday since i'm basically a walking talking TV Guide.)

About Rescue Ink Unleashed (on NatGeo cable channel at 10 PM on Fridays! if you have comcast, it's 273.)

“If you don’t like us from the way we look, we can’t help that. But if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem, so stay out of the way.”
— Joe Panz, Leader, Rescue Ink

In New York’s war on animal abuse, some of the worst offenders are pursued by a group of tattooed motorcycle-riding tough guys on a mission to save animals in danger.  They call themselves Rescue Ink, and these are their stories.

Princess cowers in her new environment as Rescue Ink's Big Ant introduces the frightened pit bull to her new forever home.

Rescue Ink's Joe Panz with a rooster on a farm in upstate New York where Rescue Ink relocated some stray chickens to from the streets of Queens.

Rescue Ink's Big Ant (Left) and Batso volunteer at an adoption fair to help find the pit bull mix Ebony a permanent home.

Rescue Ink transforms this old ambulance into a hot-rod animal rescuing machine.

Members of Rescue Ink gather to discuss a game plan on how to catch a group of stray chickens running amok in Queens, New York.

(And, btw, wtf????? people are not rating this thing and im' pissed off. at least rate this for these guys and what they are doing, for freak's sake!!!! i rate everytihng i read unless it's pure pure carp/crap. people!!!! come on. i'm in a deeep bipolar 2 depression and i made the effort to post this shit to cheer myself and others up.)

In a metropolitan area with more than 20 million residents, thousands of animals — dogs, cats, and even chickens and piranhas — are neglected, abused, hoarded or housed illegally.  A few years ago, eight tough guys from the mean streets, who frequented hot rod shows and tattoo parlors, discovered their strongest bond was actually a passion for animals — and they formed a rescue organization like no other.  Some have violent and turbulent pasts, complete with run-ins with the law, but all are seeking redemption and solace in their mission to save animals from human abuse.

This new weekly series that documents this unlikely group of animal activists on their crusade to save helpless, abandoned and abused animals. The eclectic band of brothers — composed of club bouncers, security guards and even a retired New York Police Department (NYPD) detective — is on call 24/7 to take on cases no one else will.  They’re not cops, animal experts or even animal control. They’re just big guys with even bigger hearts and a desire to save animals from deplorable living conditions and abusive or simply misguided owners.

Theo, these guys are just awesome. Thank you so much for turning me on to this show, I am definitely going to set my calender so I won't miss it!
You were right, I did smile while reading this, and I feel better because of it. Thanks again!
oh, julie, i'm so happy that it made you feel better! yes, please, check it out. it's the sweetest show and i love the people's faces when these guys show up!!! most tend to fall in line, as you would expect. please pass this on, love. everyone needs a cheering up lately. i'm going to PM more people. love love love and gratitude for you and for all the support you give me, love.
How cool! I don't have TV these days, but whenever I do, I'll keep an eye out for it. Sounds like an inspired, and inspiring, show. :~)
oh owl, love, i so hope you do get to see it. it's pretty charming and sweet. i was thinking that it would be equally entertaining to have some major Bad Girls doing the same thing. love love love and gratitude and please pass this on. i love sending cheer around.
I love these guys...
Haven't seen it, but now I will. Thanks Theo, for the heads up~~
oh, thank you, surly and scanman!! i'm with you, surly. i LOVE these guys. they cheered me up and gave me hope on a wretched day. you can't ask for more than that. well, shit, and they saved the lives of some animals and some children -- took piranhas out of a house full of kids. turns out they are illegal to have but shit, man, who does that? love love love and gratitude!
Theo- So COOL! Thanks for the tip -- I see the show is also on at 7pm this Wednesday. I'm going to check it out! I am also looking forward to the Seinfeld reunion on Curb -- but will have to watch it at my neighbor's house (if she'll indulge me) because we don't have HBO anymore. I began watching Curb in it's first season.

Ever notice how you can learn a lot about people by whether the are fans or haters of Curb?
oh, Nelly, you rock. i'm so glad you're going to check it out on Wednesday. please tell me what you think. and Curb as a test of who people are???? that is very interesting. i know i'm a dual personality because sometimes i love it and sometimes i'm just cringing way too much. i got 3 months of HBO when i got the phone. i'm blessed to have redneck in-laws who pay for cable and for netflix. my only friends here in Portland. they are good people but i get really tired of biker bars sometimes. :) shit, i gotta tell them about this!!! love lvoe lvoe!
I don't know. I get the feeling you don't really like animals that much. Am I right about that?

good post.great pics.
Teddy, since I'm a huge fan of Cesar Millan, and I always watch his show on NatGeo on Friday night, I was there for the debut of Rescue Ink Unleashed. And I, too, fell in love with these guys! They're funny and so passionate about helping/saving animals. On the first show, they confronted a Russian guy who the neighbors said was shooting cats from his back yard with a pellet gun. The confrontation wasn't good, but the guys won out and the Russian guy finally backed down. At one point I thought Big Ant was going to punch the guy--he was being very nasty (the Russian, not Big Ant). Obviously didn't have good sense. Those guys are BIG--and really intimidating! Until you see them cuddle a dog or cat. And the chickens in Queens were hysterical! So, yes, I love the show and look forward to it every Friday night. I highly recommend it! Thanks for telling about it here--I hope they get great ratings and stay on for a loooong time! D
Sounds like a great group of people. I'll set my Comcast box up to tape it. I LOVED tonight's episode of "Curb"
Hopefully will get to catch it on the rerun side of the evening!!!

John, you are always a hoot, man. yes, i do admit to having a slight inclination toward other critters. please check this show out. you will love these guys. love love love!

Brian!! thank you, love. i made sure to provide visuals because you don't get teh whole effect until you see the guys. love love love

YO!!! i am so delighted that you saw the show too! and that you also love it. i saw that guy who was shooting the cats. i couldn't believe that he kept messing with these guys. he does have balls of steel at least. the chasing the chickens? i thought i was oging to die of happiness. that was so funny. oh, this is great. now i have someone to debrief with. oh god, tonight, with the malnourished rottweiler, i went ballistic. love love love, sweetheart, and more love!!!

it's my Roger!! it is a fabulous group of guys. wait until you meet Batso. he's indescribable. can't wait to compare notes next week. love lvoe love oh and Curb tonight??? beyond excellent!! god, i miss that seinfeld dialogue so much. "the tip is not done in concert." "it's a solo thing, Larry!"

Tinkerbelle!!! i'm so hoping that you will get to check this out! it makes me so happy and you know i'm in a down spiral right now. love love love!

and so much gratitude for all of you coming by and cheering me up after i, hopefully, cheeredyou all up.
I watch all the "Animal Cops" shows, and I'm definitely going to check out "Rescue Ink."

Tough guys with a soft heart, love it!
rated with a smile. :)
It is just good to see folks doing some good for the helpless! Thanks, Theo.
oh, this is so cool.

LittleWillie, thank you for coming by! animal cops is too much for me sometimes. the puppy mills and such. this show is much kinder and gentler but the situations are pressing and poignant. love love love!!

Debb!!! you cut right to the heart of the matter. that's what i love, gruff guys who are really sweet. love the smile! love love love!

Zuma Zee!!! you're so right. it's always wonderful to see people doing good. this is just more entertaining because of the setup. lobve love love!!

and major Gratitude for all of you!
Thank you for this, I had no idea these do gooders were out there. This is just so awesome, I am going to try to find it on my uverse line up. I got UVerse and I have not learned how to work the lineup yet.
Awww! Haven't seen. When one is staying at the YWCA, it's estrogen feva TELEVISION. Mostly though, it's news and ear-drum rattling TODAY SHOW - 5 HOURS DELAYED. Go figure, willya? Anyway, it's my way of saying, I don't rule the tv waves here. Thanks for cluing me in, babycakes!
Ariana!! so great to see you here! i don't know UVerse at all. i wish i could help you. i think you'd love this show. there are many many many do-gooders out there. this just happens to be particularly fun and moving because these guys are unique in teh rescue world. love love love!!

oh, it's my Annie!!! in Hawaii! oh wow, you're still at the Y. of course it's estrogen TV and the Today show! sounds like there is a satellite there. you'd probably have to watch this in the wee hours. the girls might love these guys. i can't wait to hear everything that's happened there and is going on when you finally get settled, sweetheart. love love love

and HUGE gratitude for both of you!! i hope i made sense. i'm tired, in the good way.
I have to check this out. I hope they have it on On Demand. I can never seem to land on shows at the correct time. I've seen the promos, though, and wanted to check it out. It's very sweet.
Siren Girl! so good to see you here again. shit, i have no idea if this one is on On Demand. i'll have to check. look through the comments, love. someone said that it's on Wednesday too. i think you'd really like it. well, if you're into the Gruff with a heart of gold guys, you will. love love love and gratitude
Excellent cause. I so hope this gets aired in Australia.
I was suprised I have not heard anything about this. BUT thanks to you Theo I will watch for it. It looks like a don't miss kind of show. Thanks!
It's wonderful when animals are given a helping hand and it is great of this group to do it. Looking forward to watching it and thanks for the info, Theo!
Oh Theo, I love this! It makes me tear up just seeing the biker dude holding the chicken (& not carnally like in creepy porn) -- I don't think we get this channel at the Care Home (still with Mom) but I'll have to check it out (with a box of tissues) when I get back home. It's good to have the big guys helping out! This makes me very happy -- thank you thank you!
Two of my favorite things combined in one show: love it! Just as animals have their stories, I also love the stories behind people's tattoos. Thanks for introducing me to this.
I've never seen a rooster cuddled before! How heart-warming!!!! Rated
Way cool!!! More proof that you should never judge a book (or a person) by its cover!
Nat! good to see you. wow, i have no idea how programming works between here and australia. you could probably google National Geographic Channel and find out. what is so moving about this is that these are bad guys, well, there is one cop, who are trying to redeem themselves by helping these animals. they probably find people too overwhelming. i know all about that. :) so they're making amends by rescuing critters. i love that! i know all about making amends again and again and again and again. love love love!

LL2!!!! i love it when you come by. it is Must See TV if you're an animal lover and/or love the gruff with a heart of gold type and the whole idea of people trying to redeem themselves for prior bad acts by doing good. i suspect you'll LOVE the show and i LOVE you.

Pamela girl!!! thanks so much for coming by. again, this is these former bad guys making something good out of something bad. that's what i love so much. they used their size and toughness as bouncers and god knows what else before and now they are using those same attributes (and these guys are BIG and tough-looking) to insist on animals being treated with love. love love love! and i hoep you check it out.
This is so sweet. I hadn't heard of the show. Thanks for sharing. I do love animals and tattoes.
my Suzie!!!!! god, love, i miss you. oh, sweetheart, i suspected that you'd feel the same way i do about this show. i dated bikers bacfk in the day and was around a not so good element so i KNOW these kinds of guys. and i KNOW that you know these guys too. so to see this group using their powers for good and not to beat the shit out of people who diss them, well, it makes me tear up too. and the protective side of me LOVES seeing them all show up at the door of some asshole whose dog is living in feces and urine! that was this past show. boy, man, did that guy shape up reaaaaaallll fast!

i'm so thrilled that this makes you as happy as it makes me. and can't wait for you to see it so we can tawk. Rhode Island is neither a road nor an island, Discuss!!!! i love people who do bad but then fight to redeem themselves. sometimes more than people who were never tempted to the darkside because it you're not tempted, well, it's not an effort of will and discipline and heart. shutting up now. love lvoe lvoe and praying vigorously for Mom to pass on. have you told her that she has your permission and sis's to move on? that helped Richard to leave the agony behind and find some peace. it was hard to do but... it had to be done.

oh MP, you're a doll! i know, i love stories too. about tattoos, animals and even people. :) i'm mostly afraid of people. and i love bad guys going good and making amends. veery very cool. love love love!!!

Ralph!!! you rock, man, for coming by for this. i know, Panz holding that chicken is so lovely! i know. he's a major body builder with the biggest heart ever. he has 5 rottweillers of his own. i think he's the one who does. love love love, dude!!!

Blue!! so great to see you here, love. you're so right about the book and cover lesson. in this case, these guys, well, most of them, were really bad boys so the judgment would be on the nose but they are now reformed and doing penance by saving animals that are in awful situations. love love lvoe!!

and Gratitude for all of you. Please spread the word about this show. i want it to stay on the air. and please pass this on to people on here. i KNOW that there are a shitload of animal Lovers on OS. and probably Bikers too.
oh Gwen!!! i know, i went nuts when i saw the previews for this. animals, bikers, tattoos up the wazoo. there's a scene of Panz -- the one holding the chicken -- showing his Rottweiller tattoo to this elderly woman who agrees to adopt one of the dogs. well, it just doesn't get much sweeter.

i do my best to share this kind of heart-warming stuff with people on here. so much bad news all the time. so i shared my wonderpups in yellow ponchos in the rain and Phil Ochs and Richie Havens and now this. stay tuned for Folkie Fridays and maybe TV Tuesdays! i'm a walking TV guide and some of it is really good. shutting up now. love love love and gratitude! and please email me about what's happeneing with your book, love! i'm so thrilled for and proud of you.
Oh, Teddy, these pictures are so cute, I hope this programme gets aired over here soon. That pitbull, Princess, looks so dejected and fearful, I'm glad they rescued her from wherever she had been. And what on earth were chickens doing in Queens? Thank you for posting this, I'm going to look out for both this and Curb - sounds like Happy TV to me!
I've seen the commercials for this, but haven't managed to tune in yet. So much TV. So little time. Contrary to popular believe, bikers have hearts, too!

There is a local club of geezers down here that raise money through poker runs, etc. to get aide dogs trained for the wounded coming home from Iraq. I was really meaning to post about it, but it got moved to the back burner. Shame on me. Anyway, this summer they raised enough to have three shelter dogs sent to aide school, (or whatever they call it. Forgive my memory) at $40,000 per pup. That's some pretty generous work.
oh, it's my Psychomama Marie!!! so good to see you, sweetheart. someone else wondered if the show was seen in Australia. maybe google nat geo channelk and find out. i think you'd love it. these animals break your heart. well, not so much the chickens. :) and Curb is Curb Your Enthusiasm with Larry David but i'm sure you know that. love love love and grattiude, girl!!

Michael, oh yes, i know that bikers have hearts. i dated bikers in the past. and my redneck in-laws are all bikers. so i wasn't putting anyone down. at all.

and, shit, wow, that Aide dog/Service Dog place with teh money raising that you have there in Florida makes my Guys look like deadbeats but how cool that that is going on. you should post about them. you'd do a much better job than i could ever do. take good care.
I can't bring myself to watch shows about neglected or abused animals (even if they get rescued!) because they always make me realize that we only see the happy endings for .0001% of the animals out there in similar situations. Sigh. But I'm glad these guys are out there doing their thing.

LOVE Flashforward, too. :-)
verbal, thanks for coming by. there is so much hope for abused animals. best friends sanctuary takes in the most dire cases. took in some of the michael vicks dogs and worked with them and some were adopted out!!!!! miracles happen every day there. a 20 year old cat just got adopted. at least go to their site. and it's enough with this All or Nothing thinking that is so prevalent on here and in the world. it's something i have to battle every day to focus on gratitude and small miracles. i promise you that this show is an upbeat one. these guys could not bear it if they had to leave an animal in a bad situation. they would find it even harder than you do, denise, love. they are seeking redemption from lives of crime and such!!!! never mind. this is near and dear to me, choosing to focus on the hope and the grattiude. i'd be long dead if i hadn't made this choice. love love love and gratitude for coming by despite the subject matter.
Now that's the best thing I've seen in awhile! Thanks for the smiles!
oh, Zashin!! thank you so much for coming by. i know, this is fabulous, this show, isn't it? i love making people smile. well, sharing stuff that makes them smile. it's been like pulling teeth to get people to come here and then rating this? fuggedaboudit. onward and upward. love love love and gratitude
Bwahahahaha!!! Rescue Ink! That is so brilliant--I'm 100% fully supportive of this!
These guys are a HUGE argument in favor of ending animal abuse! Good for them, long may they crusade on behalf of and keep rescuing animals in distress. I have no sympathy for those who abuse their animals. So may the sight of great big guys getting out of a van with flames painted on it strike fear into the heart of anyone cowardly enough to cause pain and suffering to animals.
Kolika!!! i'm so glad you're here. i love making new friends. And Bwaahhh is right. these guys are the freaking best. love love lvoe

And, Shiral!!! i'm with you, girl. abusing animals is a sign of great disturbance in the force. but the truth is that we have sentenced millions of wild animals to death because of global warming. which is why i LOVE to focus on what is good and right in the world. And, as you said, these guys showing up at your door?????? pretty freaking motivating. love love love

and big gratitude for both of you!!!
Got 4 rescued cats meself and thank you for the post. Will keep an eye out. Love and rtd
where's your familiar avatar???
A very worthwhile endeavor Teddy, I'll check out the show too. You have such a love for the animals.
Traveller!!!! very cool about the rescued cats. i'm Catless for the first time in many years. i hate it. what avatar? this is my usual one? are you stoned? love love love and gratitude

Bobbot! thanks for coming by, my friend. i do have an infinite love of animals. some day soon i will post about a big reason for that. love love love and gratitude and pass this one on. can't wait till you see the show. i'm going to quiz you.
Jlee!!! god, i know. these guys are the best. i love taht they are making amends and doing so much good. it's fabulous. the show is so enjoyable and moving. so happy that you like this whole premise as much as i do! love love love and gratitude
