Stop Killing Black Kids -- Hosted by Quincy McCoy
Salon has covered the Trayvon Martin killing relentlessly, but none of our coverage has struck a nerve like the article “Is my son the next Trayvon?” by the chief operating officer of Salon Studio, Quincy McCoy. As a black man who escaped the rough neighborhoods of his youth to provide a better life for his children, Quincy’s article conveyed the constant anxiety suffered by all black parents -- regardless of class. Since McCoy’s article was published, right wing pundits have accelerated their hideous attacks on a dead teenager and “black culture”, while the killer still walks free.
If any good is to emerge from this tragedy, it will come from seeking answers to this question: How do we stop the national epidemic of violence against young black men?
This is a conversation America needs to have. We want to hear your thoughts, questions and reactions. Join Quincy McCoy on Friday April 6 at noon EDT/9 AM PDT for a free Q&A webcast that is open to everybody. (Here is a link to the Event Page)

Twitter never allowed Trayvon Martin to trend, despite a thousand tweets per hour for the past two weeks. But "Ghetto Easter Basket" is a trend today.
And we are hearing nothing about the kid in Pasadena who was shot on sight after a false report that he stole a laptop at gunpoint. The caller, a hispanic, thought the lie would make the police show up faster. They did...and shot a black kid on sight.
I am Trayvon Martin. I am Troy Davis. I am Reika Boyd.
I'm a white American and I'm not tired hearing about it!! Till there's justice in this case and others, I will not tire!!! ~nodding~
Zimmerman needs to be arrested and tried in a FAIR(for both sides) court of law. There's no doubt he shot and killed Trayvon, he did and he says he did. There's a doubt, A BIG DOUBT, whether or not it was in self defense.
There's a fine line between self defense and murder. I'm not a judge or lawyer so my opinion on the case means jack squat, but in my opinion, it was not in self-defense, even when you run through the law of Florida, it was not a 'just' killing.
Anyways...hope there's some justice.closure so the family and Trayvon can get some peace.

Thanks for the forum! I tagged my fictional piece, "Life Cycle of a Black Boy" as part of this discussion.
