- "Gen X" mama with goofy New Age sensibilities and, yet, a skeptical mind. Go figure.
I grew up in Alabama, went to college in New Orleans, lived in Atlanta, Northern Virginia (DC area), the DC-Baltimore corridor, Wilmington, NC and now Long Island. Phew.
Now my bags are unpacked, I live in a magic cottage near the beach with the world's coolest kid, 3 adorable kitties, and...coming soon...the love of my life. But that's another story.

Wedding on the cheap? Someone tell our friends!
In Big Salon today, they ran an article about a budget wedding. The wedding cost $8000, a relative bargain compared to the average wedding of $32,000. Still, it is obviously possible to go cheaper -- forego everything but the officiant and wedding license and you can wrap the whole wedding up… Read full post »
Going No Poo
I didn't wash my hair with shampoo today. It is my first day of going "no-poo."

I heard about the idea through the How Stuff Works podcast. Here is the audio file.
Apparently, a lot of folks are ditching their shampoo. The reasons are mostly environmental...less plastic bot… Read full post »
A Lulemon Alternative -- Swadeshi Yoga Clothing
In response to Firedfornow's blog post on Lulemon clothing, I'd like to suggest an ethical alternative:
I've been a yogi for almost 20 years and I moderate an influential discussion board on yoga.
I know a lot about the different products being marketed to yogis a… Read full post »
9 Year Old Girl Aborts Twins. Mother Excommunicated.
I was hoping that Salon's blog would post up about this story because I really didn't want to deal with the heartache of reading the comments on this. However, I also cannot stand to let this story slide into oblivion.
A nine year old… Read full post »

Bridezillas Explained

In Big Salon, Tracy Clark-Flory wrote about a feminist blogger who has been criticized for her wedding plans. The feminist blogger is trying to balance her wedding choices with her feminism by having what sounds like it is going to be the most self-indulgent wedding of all time.… Read full post »
Can we talk? I have a beef with reporters who misuse Google to support their claims. Actually, I have a problem with reporters who sit at home in their pajamas, Google a bit, and call that research. But, let's talk Google statistics horseshit here.

My Charlie Brown Valentine's Day
I never once during college had a boyfriend on Valentine's Day. My roommate, ditto. Somehow, no matter how good things were going the rest of the year, there was never a man around to send us flowers and give us chocolate and wear red teddies for. My roommate dubbed it "VD… Read full post »

My daughter is now 11, but my very very favorite bed time story ever was this book (no longer available in hardback):

OS - What about a "most commented" category?
I saw at the top that we have "most read" and "top rated" but I'd also like to have a list of the most commented blog topics (topics with the highest number of comments).

The Nudist's Gift
When I lived in Maryland, I had the fortune to be a member of a very special yoga class. The teacher was everything I ever dreamed of in a teacher...sincere, loving, dedicated, knowledgeable, non-judgemental. She was, in short, a true yogi.
The class I attended was billed as… Read full post »
