Freedom to Live or Exploit

There are two ideas of freedom in the United States conflicting with each other these days.

Most of us belief freedom is doing what we want for our personal benefit without hurting others. Do unto others as you want them to do to you.

People in business and banking believe freedom is their right to exploit other people for their personal gain.

The depth of that first belief premise is profoundly under examined, for example: the 313 million people of the USA consume over twenty times the energy per capita than the 1.4 billion people of China while the economies of both nations vie for the largest carbon footprint. Who has benefited and who is hurt? And how do the political and economic leadership of those nations regard the effect on the climate that effects the lives of the other 5.3 billion human beings on this planet?
