Your average inconsistent X'er I used to care very much about being a good Republican, but I don't know what that means anymore. I now focus my energies on writing about growing up, the politics of Animal Welfare. I volunteer. I organize fund raisers. I do my best to raise awareness about cruelty, gay penguins, stupid people who keep wild animals as pets and showing funny cat videos. I also write extensively about my family who would probably laugh about this blog, then choke me (but not hard enough for it to be a felony). The end of sexy underwear week

So there I am not far from home, riding along thinking about the mounds and mounds of laundry I need to do. Mostly because with each pedaling motion I am reminded that I am wearing bike-unfriendly under things under my highlighter yellow jersey and attendant black cycling shorts.

 Sexy

Fat Ladies at War

So here it is, the annual ritual when everyone starts making lofty promises about the new people they plan on becoming. New year’s resolutions make me think about how I changed.

Initially my change was about losing weight. Holy fuck was that hard. It was emotionally complex. Physically challenRead full post »

Styrofoam, Plastic, Blood and Bruises

I was at mile seven of a sixty mile ride when it happened.

THWACK.

I don’t know what the hell happened. I picked myself up from the asphalt and collapsed into some grass.  There was an horrible throbbing pain in my thigh. In a wave of pain I realized I hit myRead full post »

Push

A few kind souls have inquired where I've been, this is my response.

The first few miles are the hardest. My muscles hate me. My body is overtly angry with my decision to ride instead of reading and drinking coffee like a normal person on a Sunday morning. IRead full post »

Why is Mr. Twinklypants so tasty?

I’m a very conflicted omnivore. It’s quite simple.

When I see this:

I think about this:

My broad exposure to animals creates a conflict I that leaves me feeling guilty and hyper conscious when I eat meat or even think about it. If I spend more than a few minutesRead full post »

I'm sure this is coming from the best of all possible places, but it just scares the hell out of me.

Watch at your own risk. Remember you were warned.

I was a Holiday Mall Elf

I spent two years at McDonald’s at the register back when they used Styrofoam and the happy meal toys were awesome. This was in a mall, and we had a great number of repeat customers. I had nicknames for them, like Mom with retarded kids or Creepy Guy from SamRead full post »

Prayer Garden

I was about 16 when I met Father Pete, he was fat, talkative and happy. He spent a lot of time around the kids in the parish, always looking to get us playing board games with him. He loved Scrabble, Risk and Monopoly. He had no qualms beating anyone, evenRead full post »

Boomers for Adoption

Yesterday was Mom's last day working, I should feel happy for her. I'm not. I'm actually worried. This is just a crappy time economically.

They don't have much savings, but have a decent income from social security, and a few small pensions. My brother and I have been having secret conversations.Read full post »

25 Years of Un-friending

I don’t really know where to start, except from the beginning. We met about 25 years ago right before we had boobs. It was a wonderful time. We rode bikes and ate too much candy. There were sleep overs and clandestine trips to the bathroom when we laughed hysterically atRead full post »

My Meth-head

About three years ago I first noticed him walking down the street, dirty with raggy clothes. In one hand was a giant convenience store beverage, in the other his penis. He walked and tugged down the street oblivious to everyone around him.

He's just one reason I despise and deplore… Read full post »

Sometimes I feel compelled to  review and occasionally respond to the spam that filters through my "junk mail" folder. This particular letter, is simply entertaining and artistic. I just loved it so much that I needed to share:

It's a final notice from the FBI. Oh No!

You Remind Me... Open Call

Second Graders are Weird!

Fluffy is going to die today
