Every time a joke and or cartoon is made about the Koran there's a great hue and cry that Westerners are a racists. Why isn't there any worldwide cry against racism in this case?

The Intellectual Dishonesty of William Kristol

No American with a basic understanding of this country’s military history could not have been anything but taken aback by William Kristol’s intellectually dishonest criticism of this statement in President Obama’s second inaugural speech: “But we are also heirs to those who w

At this point all I can do is laugh when I think about how some of my friends on the far right were naive as to think that sensible Republicans in Congress had failed to heed the message of the 2012 election and the current political realities borne therefrom. The

Two weeks ago I penned a short piece titled “Grover Norquist Collateral Casualty of 2012?” where I broached the question of whether or not Norquist would become a casualty as a result of the coming fiscal cliff negotiations and where I said, “…look for Grover Norquist to pol

In light of the election post mortems taking place among conservatives, perhaps no one is more delusional, with the exception of Karl Rove, than Grover Norquist. Norquist, a high priest of limited government, is having nothing to do with the reality borne of Mitt Romney’s defeat. Rather than t

Conservatives at a Dead End?

Election day has finally arrived and to true conservatives the final outcome will probably be nothing more than a mixed blessing at best. First and foremost Mitt Romney is hardly a rock ribbed conservative, not if you base your assessment of him on his political track record. He has migrated

Can Mitt Romney Fix the Economy?

When Barack Obama first took office economist Ken Rogoff, who served on the International Monetary Fund and at the Federal Reserve, warned the president that the 2008 downturn was no ordinary event. Rogoff advised Obama that downturns resulting from bursting financial bubbles took a minimum of five

Mitt Romney and Autumn's Black Swan

In nature black swans are a rarity. In the world of politics and economics they represent rare surprise events that have significant consequences. Of late the term black swan gained renewed currency when economist Nouriel Roubini said that economic crises weren’t “black swan events&rdquo

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, with the upcoming election a factor, one thing is apparent and that is that Mitt Romney is no better off at figuring out disaster relief than he was at figuring out which countries constitute our geopolitical enemies. You see Romney is busy backpedaling on hi… Read full post »

I fully understand that Mitt Romney and his lieutenants want to capitalize on any and every political opportunity that comes their way, but in the case of the Benghazi deaths have they gone too far?

Ambassador Chris Stevens’ father has come out and asked that the Romney campaign cease and

As an avid observer of national politics I’ll be honest and admit that President Obama’s last debate performance was nothing short of abysmal. What I find particularly frustrating about Barack Obama in general, and in his performance in the last debate in particular, is that he continues

What became of Mitt Romney the “severe conservative” who so assured the American right earlier this year that he had long since slipped his moorings to a moderate political past in Massachusetts? Surely a “severely conservative” Mitt Romney wasn’t the guy who showed up

Mitt Romney's Lehman Moment?

Did Mitt Romney, in his ill timed and ill conceived commentary on the violence in North Africa, just doom his presidential aspirations the way John McCain did in 2008 when he said that the economy was on sound footing just as Lehman Brothers collapsed? In a twinkling of a political

To hear the pundits and political professionals talk about it, this election is all about turning out a party’s base. That’s because there are few if any undecided voters left and the only undecided voters that count are the ones residing in a handful of swing states. That said the

Paul Ryan Whistling Past Reality

I just finished watching Paul Ryan's convention speech and I was dumbstruck by this supposed policy wonk's complete and obvious ability to craft a speech that was so at variance to the facts and then expect the voters to take him seriously. Let's take a look at some of what Ryan… Read full post »

Who's Beholden to Foreign Ideas?

Ever since Sarah Palin ran around proclaiming that Barack Obama is a "Socialist" there has been an unrelenting effort by the right to portray the president as someone beholden to foreign ideas. Whether it flows from the fever swamp of right wing media or from the lips of Mitt Romney and… Read full post »

Romney Rolled by the Far Right?

Oh well, it looks like someone broke the Etch-A-Sketch. After being hagridden for the past few weeks by the talking heads of America's far right from Rush Limbaugh to Sean Hannity to Ann Coulter to finally Laura Ingraham who said “I might be the skunk at the picnic, but I’m going… Read full post »
Mitt Romney's supposed essential selling point to the American electorate is that his experience in the private sector uniquely qualify him to replace Barack Obama in the White House next January. Romney and his supporters have repeatedly said that Romney's business acumen stand in stark contrast to… Read full post »

Seems that Mitt Romney may be suddenly suffering from a disturbing bout of selective amnesia, apparently he can't remember having led an attack on another student at his prep school, one John Lauber, where Romney himself cut off the poor soul's hair. You see Lauber was a nonconformist who apparently… Read full post »

The Worst Jobs Record Of Any Governor In America‏

Remember back in February, at the height of the controversy surrounding public employee unions in Wisconsin, the idea was trotted out that Governor Scott Walker's anti-union efforts were part and parcel of a broader, bolder economic vision that would lead to growth and prosperity in the Badger State?… Read full post »

Desperately Denying Reality

Over the past few days we’ve witnessed a barrage of criticism aimed at Barack Obama for his comments on, and a televised feature commemorating, the anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s death. Mitt Romney and many of his allies on the right initially tried to downplay, minimize or spin the po

True Republican Mavericks

Retiring Republican Senator from Maine,  Olympia Snowe seems to be taking a parting shot at the right wing extremism currently infecting the G.O.P. She recently said that she will not necessarily give her $2.36 million dollar war chest to another Republican. Quoting an article from the Kennebec… Read full post »

Mr. Fiscal Responsibility

Remember how Newt Gingrich so reverently and so often spoke about the need to be a good steward of the public's money? Odd but the principle of fiscal sanity doesn't seem to apply to Mr. Gingrich himself. Of late it's come to the fore that Newt Gingrich is costing the American

Tea Party Turncoats

What happened to the steadfastness of Tea Party backed Republican Senators? We are all too familiar with how Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) ditched that state's Tea Party shortly after getting elected in 2010 and since then has been pretty reliably one of the few moderate Republicans left in the Senate.… Read full post »
Back in September of 2010 I detailed in an article "Where Have all the Libertarian’s Gone?" how for all of the attention paid to Libertarian ideas there was little in the way of Libertarian electoral success to show for it.
