People who have gone through sorrow are more sympathetic than others, not so much because of what they know about sorrow, but because they know more about happiness. They appreciate its value and its fragility, and welcome it wherever it may be. The Puritan attitude which grudges happiness belongs only to those who have never entered very deeply into life. ----- Freya Stark, Beyond Euphrates

What if God WAS One of Us?

Rate: 38 Flag

Talking with a friend of mine at work about the sad state of network news.  And through stream of consciousness -- it reminded me of this song from Tim Rice & Andrew Webber's musical from the 70's -- Jesus Christ, Superstar.

What if Jesus (or his heir) had a blog on Open Salon -- and was Tweetering and Facebooking his way around the world?

I'm just sayin'.

When you read this, did you expect me to tell you to be nice, watch your language and treat even the poorest writer as if .  .  .  ?

This is as close as I get to an Easter post.

It's a good message, Ms. Skel. For Easter or anytime. _r
I LOVE Jesus Christ Superstar! Songs from the record pop in my head ALL the time. What a great point you make!
If he's got a blog, his handle might be the WaterWalker~ Good Post Skel~
Loved this...thanks!
I listened to this album in my college dorm over and over again trying to figure stuff out.
Good message...thank you! xox
Hmm, are you trying to tell me something? I mean, I know you are divine... but, hmm... jus' saying.
From Joan Osbourne's Song: "What If God Were One Of Us"
"What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home
He's trying to make his way home
Back up to heaven all alone
Nobody calling on the phone
Except for the pope maybe in rome"
Do you expect sacrifices? (r)
Message? You perceived a message here? Must have been divine intervention -- I was just jonesing to hear this song and it seems even more pertinent to today's world of mass communication than it did back in the 70's when it caused so much stir.

Although, Joanie, I have to admit after posting this I thought it might be a nice hint to the snarks around OS -- to rise above the petty shit and just BE.

Elisa -- ahhhhhhhh. Sweet, huh? Nice to hear.

Tink: sorry it didn't have any attention grabbing headline which included the words "Big Dick" or "Fucking". That was an earlier post which I decided not to publish -- and then whattyaknow,I come up with this. I think maybe I AM the messiah.

Lunchlady -- I am glad you got the point. Whatever point that is.

Scanner -- good one! I bet he writes blogs about how to feed a mob with just what's in your pantry or how to ferment water into wine in less than 5 minutes.

Buffy -- it's a great song ain't it?

Mimetalker -- it's a great album ain't it?

Robin -- whatever message that is, I hope you'll leave some dough in the alms box. (JUST KIDDING !)

mypsyche: I knew somebody would figure it out -- I AM the Messiah. I was putting off telling anyone, . . . oh you know Dan Bern's already written a song about it. He thinks HE's the Messiah.
Gonna stay up all night reading and rating everyone, just in case...
trilogy: on my way home from work I made up new words to that old hymn, "What a Friend we have in Jesus". What about this --
"What a Friend I have on Facebook, All the People that I know . . ." still working on the rest.

clark: The sacrifice is reading all the crap that gets served up around here. Kinda like trying out churches and/or religions. kissing toads.
Hi Skel, so is OS like, a big church?
myriad: ah well, if you covered all your bases you'd go completely nuts and I don't think God likes crazy people. On second thought, those neo-cons seems to have an inside track, so maybe insanity is the key!
60: OS is a microcosm of the world. WE've got the conservatives (who apparently hate just about anything that moves), the religious nuts (I'm not saying they're nuts cause they're religious, but they religiously post nutso stuff), the elites (they know who they are) and the rest of us. That's why I think God is one of the rest of us.
Great message. Can you repost weekly?
what if, indeed. something to think about. please: I might be able to come up with something along these lines next week. I'll be the Jiminy Cricket around here.

RavingBits: don't think too much about it. THinking too much is what keeps us all crazy.

God: Just following orders. Later.
I wore out two copies of this album. Absolutely love it. If God WAS one of us, he'd be a Democrat. r.
...and a good Easter message it is too.
Let's hope that if Jesus hadOS'd, Facebooked, and Twittered, someone would have invented the internet....
Jesus was a socialist. I'm sure of it. I also wonder what he'd think of, after all these centuries, that the Catholic church uses his name to cover up mass pedophilia? I wonder what he'd think of a Baptist preacher vilely protesting the death of a young gay marine? I wonder what he'd think of these types putting words in His mouth?

None of it makes me feel very Eastery, though I do love those deviled eggs.
I'm with Michael. :) Great song. I'll be singing it all evening.
Sorry about that, Skeletnwm. Didn't mean to go all stupid on your blog. I'm just really upset with organized religion right now. I just can't see how these sort of things are alright with these people.
Jiminy Cricket - I love it!
it's a poss i bil it y.

Shh - you'll blow my cover

Rated ;)
Have I told you lately how much I love to see you around here? Well . . . this post is just one of many reasons why.
skeletnwmn...if I could, I would baby..!! xox
You must be reading my mind. Some images from that film along with the great lyrics from that song were going through my head yesterday... thanks

"Every time I look at you I don't understand
Why you let the things you did get so out of hand.
You'd have managed better if you'd had it planned.
Why'd you choose such a backward time in such a strange land?
If you'd come today you could have reached a whole nation.
Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication.

Tell me what you think about your friends at the top.
Who'd you think besides yourself's the pick of the crop?
Buddha, was he where it's at? Is he where you are?
Could Mohammed move a mountain, or was that just PR?"

I only want to know.
That show brings back a lot of artistic memories. Rated.
LintheSoutheast -- I have a feeling God wouldn't be political in any way, shape or fashion.

Steve Katz: we could only hope.

Michael Rodgers: Organized religion has very little to do with God. IMHO.

sweetfeet: gotcha

foolish monkey: ;*)

Carole Hallundbaek: the god in me salutes the god in you.

Owl_Says_Who: :o) I Love you, too, Owl.

scarlett: I've been singing "Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication" all day long myself.!
as trilogy referenced, Joan Osborne sang the song with that title. She didn't write it, I think it was someone from the Hooters who did, but it has long been my favorite. It was released in the mid 90s on her Relish album...a terrific work.

Here it is on youtoob:

The lyrics are terrific, and matches the questions you pose, what if He was one of us...what would we do, what would we ask him?

Good enough Easter post for me skel. xo
Amanda: spoken like a Mom

Sparking: onward, through the fog

bbd: nice to see you barry.
hes is here...has a blog... doesnt have much to say, but he's here:
That young whippersnapper? Damn him!
Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And we want you to sleep well tonight.
Let the world turn without you tonight.
If we try, we'll get by, so forget all about us tonight
oops. pushed the wrong button.

that's what jesus would blog but they'd be mary magdelene's words...
You totally crack me up, my dear.
Clarification is in order here. Previously I had been known as Superman, but now I am commonly referred to as Super Dude Dad. A Blessed Right-On to you (Ceremoniously thrusting right fist in the air)
o/e Fun post, *****r
Of course, many say that he is here, that each of us carry some of that which is God within us.

That certainly gives pause.
I always thought this particular zombie jesus (actor, video above)was kind of cool. He's like those pictures where you can't tell if Jesus is looking at you or the other guy; eye's open/closed, etc. Choosing Ted Neely with his lazy wall-eye problem was sorta kitsch brilliance.

Eggs are pagan, btw, as are bunnies. The Adventists were wrong in the 1840s about his return, but they are right about this. Just sayin'.
Interesting thought. rated.
Well if those old Books are to be believed he would be the busiest and most successful multi-tasker, like, ever!
Also I would get his address, go to his house, and give him what fer! For the Congo, my kidney stones, most of those reality shows, etc.
