I wrote this article on February 16, 2011 and never posted it. I didn't like how it turned out, but more than that, I really didn't think these "cocaine bath salts" were all that bad. Law enforcement has a way scaring the public into "not" worrying about something because they play the big bad wolf so much. People tire of hearing tomato's cause cancer and milk is bad for you.
So I forgot about it until yesterday, when I read about a man, a monster, who bit and chewed a man's face off and also tried to gouge his eyes out and tear his nose off. Now, this scares me. I've been around the drug world and have seen many drugs come and go but to legally sell something like this, over-the-counter to anyone is crazy. We've given billions to Mexico and most is stolen or used to bribe people. Yet in our own back yard, they sell something legally that will turn a man into an animal. I do hope somebody is working on taking this out of stores. The longer I live, the stupider people look and act.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Imagine jumping into nice hot bath with some added bath salts and all of a sudden you start getting a little light headed. After a few minutes, you get so high you get out of the tub and blow your wife's brains out. There are stores that are selling these bath salts that are loaded with some serious drugs. Yhey are made with a drug that has the same effects as cocaine, but is more powerful. The only problem is, instead of getting a small amount in your nose, you whole body is saturated with it. You have no way on knowing how it's going to effect you. Even when snorting it, it varies each time you use it.
Sold under the names of Red Dove, Vanilla Sky, Ivory Wave, Hurricane Charlie among others, this stuff is no joke. While most people snort it, some are actually bathing in it.It is mostly being sold to anyone who wants it, in Mississippi and the Gulf Coast area, for now. Law makers around the country are scrambling to pass new laws to keep this stuff out of their state. Louisiana outlawed it in January after their poison center had more than 125 emergency calls.
The Chairman of the Mississippi State Drug Police said, "This is the 21th Century way to sell drugs". I'm a person that believes in the legalization of marijuana. While I do think it should be sold under some of the same laws as alcohol, I certainly don't think you should sale drugs with this much potency to kids, adults or even drug addicts. This is insane! Even people who inject drugs know how much they are shooting into their bodies, although not always the quality. That's what causes OD's.
A man in Tippon County shot and killed a Deputy Sheriff and admitted he was high after taking a bath and using these bath salts. He is being charged with capital murder. The deputy was responding to a domestic dispute when he was gunned down. It took six men a half hour to wrestle this guy into an ambulance, where he then proceeded to tear up the gurney straps and the medical tape they had holding him down. How in the hell can they sell something this potent to a person who has no idea how high he will get?
Senator Rand Paul, a person who has proven that the nut doesn't fall far from the tree. has put a hold on the paasage of laws banning this stuff. "Paul's main reason for blocking the bills, he told the Kentucky New Era, is that federal penalties for drug law violations are "disproportionate" and doesn't allow judges discretion in sentencing. "The main reason we are opposing this is someone could be kept in prison for 20 years," he told the Era." Something smells a little fishy, and it ain't the fish.
They have just outlawed something called Spice, an incense that when burnt, will get a person high and it was also being sold to anyone. It is really just synthetic marijuana. It was literally on the shelves for anyone to buy. Kids just went in and bought it until parents and law enforcement got involved. I never thought I would agree with anything that would help law enforcement, but this is way over the line. The new law will would make the active ingredient in the bath salts, Mephedrone and MDPV, whatever they are, a Schedule I drug much like Heroin, will carry a 30 year prison sentence. Good fucking riddance!
The news article I read in the local papers described this whole strip as a 'war zone in lockdown' previously in relation to keeping the partying in control.
When I read this article, it detailed the number of passerby who did not even notice what was happening.
I did not watch the video caught by the security camera. I did NOT want to know that much...I had just ate...
The guy attacked lost most of his face including both eyes, nose, ears, and most of the flesh off his face right down to the bone. He is in critical condition.
Awful.....
This story is a real cautionary tale. I haven't heard about these bath salts before, but I am familiar with spice (by reputation only) and long-term pot heads have warned that it is very dangerous stuff.
There is, however, a general tenor of increasing violence in the air. I just started carrying my .25 caliber Browning again after a hiatus of several months. I am now starting to carry a cane because of my balance problems and, at my age, I am longer confident that I can take people down without getting hurt in the process. (Of course the cane is loaded with shot, so it's not an inconsiderable deterrent device all by itself.)
I think we should have a national conference somewhere of OS members. Wouldn't that be something? All of us in the same room somewhere, posting about being in the same room together. Like a science fiction convention.
You in?
Sheila, like I said, I heard about this over a year ago, but this....,
PW, I have no idea. They were both naked too.
Sage, I have a 25 cal. too that I carry sometimes, but I also have to use a cane wherever I go and believe me, I will hurt someone protecting my family. A room full of OSer's. Now that would be a sight, hah!
as for mexico, it is in the process of reconquering their lost
territory, from that mexican american war.
they are succeeding, but war is banal at best..yes?
pot/? ah who remembers that...
not i, though it straightened me out once.
agreed:
"It should be sold under some of the same laws as alcohol, "
but what are those?
pot only for those who can enjoy it and make it sacred.
like booze.
a card, perhaps of a new religious denomination?
religion trumps law. here.
Maybe they can all eat each other. No death penalty needed.
Rated. Terrific.
PS I used to have the album - good rockin'!
....and POT is illegal??
You know, I'd be one of those idiots who tried the bath salts thinking it was all good fun, remember whippits? They were banned eventually too.
Was discussing this horrible incident with a friend the other day---cannibalism is such a taboo, one of the few that remain in our society. How low must one's inhibitions be, even under the influence of a Class A drug, in order to make it ok. to cross the line? I know people have resorted to cannibalism in order to survive (Donner Party, anybody?) but just to do it...shocking.
Loved the Edgar Winter. Played it REALLY LOUD!
i don't think she'd have liked the idea much. woulda spoiled our dinner appetite.
Scan, sound work in sharing with us.
Thanks for the education, Scanner.
Congratulations!
The problem is that this is usually decided based on propaganda and political clout not science and equal and free speech. One of the most blatant examples is tobacco and Marijuana; the tobacco companies had clout so they protected the legality and presented the public with an enormous amount of advertising or propaganda to convince them that it was safer than it was and that it actually provided a benefit. If the public had access to accurate information about this many people never would have picked up the habit.
The same probably goes for these bath salts, which you clearly know more about than me.
BTW congrats on the EP
I write stuff that I never ever post also.
I heard about a human-monster too.
In Montreal some guy send body parts.
He had a "lover" and he cut him apart.
He sent body parts through the mail.
`
Montreal.
Google it.
No. Gag.
`
I'd not bother to read about the murder.
Read a National Geographic or see ducks.
Students in Montreal are banging pans.
I agree with the Student Protest. Care.
Care's Courage. I gone after my comment.
Garbage in/Garbage out. O Thank You.
Calm . . .
i ask myself, why.
well i found it easy:
:"federal penalties for drug law violations are "disproportionate" and doesn't allow judges discretion in sentencing."
that is a truth that sits out there,
in our society, like a big fat goddamn piece of dogshit
we gotta clean up.
well done.
The crap you talk about probably came from China, which the conservatives will tell you has the most unbridled, freest form of capitalism. And isn't it funny how the really nasty drugs affect the po'buckers? Zillionaires die of other things, thank you very much -- probably by trying to pick up their money bags. Is this a great country or what?
