It is a little known fact that there are quite a number of those on the fringes who may not ever see relief. I am that one you never met, in that we are kept separate by way of societal demands that the poor remain silent, biddable, childlike nonentities without a say as to our care or how it's to be provided. ****************************************** I tend to view things as a selfdisicplined person without advantages. If this won't set with some, then I guess they are not ready to remember who we are as one entity, governed by everyone inclusively. I will not cease to point out any diseased thinking I run across here in the USA. ****************************************** I stand in defense of the weakened, the brutally treated, the denied, the ones for whom life's trial can be too much. I stand with my thought, even when my legs are weakened, my stride not strong. ****************************************** Walk with me on this journey, now, wherein we may ask each other: How much is the value of one person affected by what is generally assumed about them? **** See me also at THE POOR WOMAN'S RETROACTIVE DIARY, (go to LINKS below, if you're interested) a commentary on the level of care I was allowed throughout my time seeking help.

Foodie Tuesday Chicks' Night In: 2 films 1 theme

Rate: 27 Flag

Oh, how I love a good story when it's told well enough!
This week's Chicks' Night In features two fine quality movies to choose from (or you're free to watch both, back to back, if you care to). Both are made by women of Indian origins.

Deepa Mehta's film, Republic of Love, is a Canadian love story, while Mira Nair's film, Monsoon Wedding, is one from India. Both tell good stories with humor and pathos mixed together. So like life.

Both are currently available over at YouTube. Monsoon Wedding costs $2.99 for 24 hours of viewing time, while Republic of Love is currently offered for FREE, and (surprisingly) without any commercial interruptions.

Both have gorgeous, hunky men in healthy love relationships who are humanly flawed yet worth appreciating. The female cast members are strong and delightful women, some plain, some pretty. Both have great casts overall, however, along with interesting set design, and wonderful scripts. Rotten Tomatoes basically hates Republic of Love, but not one woman friend have I shared it with would agree with their assessment. Based on the novel by prize-winning Canadian author Carol Shields (1935-2003), it tells the story of a man who began his life with over 20 mothers. How this affects his outlook in later life sets up a series of interesting events, some really quite humorous.

Also, one finds reason to feel for a man and his duck.....(don't ask, just watch the film--you'll be glad you did.)

Here's a taste of the film:

Now, if you haven't yet seen Monsoon Wedding, I have but one question for you: Where have you been?  It's a wonderful film, full of not too much in the way of Bollywood musical interludes, each one actually making sense with the storyline. In it you'll find passion, family scenes of great depth, stellar acting, and a terrific script. The music, in my book, is addictive. I love a good film score, and this selection features one of my favorites of all time.

The depth, the mood of the piece, all of it sparkles and shimmers like rich sari fabric.

((Warning for those suffering the PTSD aftereffects of bad childhoods: incest alert. Nothing graphic, but the subject is addressed, and handled with taste))

Here's that trailer:

What'll we eat this week, ladies?

I say, let's have more than one menu item to choose from, just as we have two films to share.

In Republic of Love, Chinese dim sum is featured, but that might be a bit challenging for most cooks, and who wants to fuss after a long day at the office?

In two scenes, there are waffles offered our hero. So you could fire up the toaster, and add your favorite fruit and/or topping. Easy comfort food. If done right, it won't have over many calories, either. Easy and quick and tasty.

You might choose to order in from your favorite Indian restaurant. A little tandoori, perhaps, or a tasty vegetarian delicacy, with veggies, rice, chick peas, etc.

Either way, your themed meal will be a tasty accompaniment. If you're going with Indian fare, you'll be pleased to note it fits either film, even though Republic of Love is based in Canada. The score for the film is often dreamlike, with Indian overtones that are unmistakeable and richly exotic.

Here is where to find a yummy recipe for Mango Chicken Salad:

http://www.indianfoodforever.com/mango/chicken-salad-with-mango.html

(sorry--I've been having problems creating word links here for a while, so you'll have to copy+ paste these)

And a really aromatic and tasty vegetarian dish from the same website:

http://www.indianfoodforever.com/vegetables/navratan-korma.html

(yum!)

I have a deep respect for the work of both of tonight's featured film makers, Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta, and I hope you'll enjoy viewing their work as much as I have.

Now, who wants fresh strawberries and maybe some yogurt on their waffle?

:)

Bruce Greenwood interview!

Let's dance, ladies!
*moonwalks past buffet table in her new purple sari*

Whata fun video, Fusie!
here it is!

I know I'd announced previously how I'd intended for this to start in the afternoon,. However, OS is really SLOW today, and there are health issues here due to smokey conditions in my area, so I've decided to start early and take breaks throughout.
Thanks for the trailers to those movies. With the "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" in the first run films it is a wave of India. Sure makes me want to go back there. Your food selections are excellent. I remember the flavors and tastes of India. I wish we could all wear Saris today. They are very feminine and impractical but the patterns and colors are so sensual. Nice idea.
Ms Z: I LOVE saris, and wish I had one of my own. There are lovely ladies from India in my community, and many of them wear saris most of the year, until it gets too cold to be practical. then they switch to wearing jeans.
:)
Sari fabric is so lovely, and it's fun to decorate with, not just wear.
So glad you like my choices of recipes this time. That mango chicken salad is delightful! But so is the one for the Navratan Korma (I LOVE the smells of Indian cooking--so refreshingly spicy! They are not vanilla!)
India in general fascinates me. The use of color in decor there, for example, really gets me going.
:)
well i want that, but i also want some kinda
introduction to bollywood..which you, poor woman, have
graciously provided. i gotta go to a film festival soon.
gonna be chick flicks, but no fun w//o a chick
except an acerbic hippy sis.
James: A word to the wise. Monsoon Wedding is not the norm for Bollywood. Most Bollywood films are like musicals, with songs sung by those acting in them. In Monsoon Wedding, one never gets the impression one is watching a musical, altho' there are thematic similarities, and a party-like atmosphere at times pervades the story line.
I'll be dipped! I'm going to get dim sum today and have been looking for a good chick flick. Then I may go to the saree place and get some "imported silky fabric!" I love to look at the colors. R ahd hugs
zuma: I wish we had a place here locally which makes dim sum. It's my favorite, really. There used to be a place, altho' they did not deliver. So nummy, the different kinds they served!
Have fun looking at all the sari fabric colors!
;)
I've always been curious about "Monsoon Wedding." I confess to having never heard of the other film. Mango chicken salad sounds delightful!
Erica: The film is a sweet one, and very well made. It has all the elements of a modern fairy tale while being real at its heart.
And the chicken salad really is tasty. Hope you'll like both!
:)
Hope I don't confuse, eher, by using my other OS ID.
I 've just posted a rant at my other blog, and neglected to switch ID's before commenting.
Dear PW, you brought back such lovely memories just by the mention of the movie, "Monsoon Wedding". I'd seen it at the theatre with a dear friend visiting from Texas. Afterwards we enjoyed Cosmopolitans on a sidewalk terrace - it was a balmy summer's night. . . Thank you for selecting a Canadian feature too.
I'll drop by later after digging out my Indian dress and preparing a mango lassi.
R♥
Fusie: Oooo! Mango lassi! Yum! Can hardly wait to view you in your chic Indian outfit!
Indian food! yuuuummmm that and Japanese/sushi are my favorite. I will be in and out to catch the movie reviews
I dont know how you got on here to post as I have been trying for hours to get on here..
I have seen the first and I say BBQ on lettuce cups hahaha
and smoothies..
HUGGGGGGGGG
Ooh, I love Monsoon Wedding! It is such a great movie. I wish I still owned a sari. I can bring tea, if you would like.
Linda: LOL You nut! BBQ on lettuce cups actually doesn't sound bad, for some reason. In fact, you're making me hungry for BBQ chicken. But, let's lose the lettuce LOL. Love a good smoothie during warm weather. Make mine strawberry + banana with vanilla lowfat yogurt.
Yum!
;)
Just checking in on our party. It can get very hot and steamy in India. Bollywood is annoying actually and so is the music in the streets but that is just my jaded opinion. I remember the holy cows everywhere. We would throw out our paper and compost in the back yard and once I saw a holy cow eating up one of my mother's letters. Many houses had cow dung plastered in patties on the walls as it was used for fuel when it dried. Cooking chapaties is an art form in India.
THIRD TRY at answering Julie's comment:
ARGH!
I love good Indian food. Am glad you do too. Garam Masala is great for the crockpot, but too warm for this time of year. Hope you enjoy the movie!
;)
dont you have to really relaxed to watch a musical?
alone, a boy might get bored.
that is boys.
they are uncultured.

singing, hm?

i would say if a guy got a sweetie to hug a bit
during this music
tis ok.

hm
Midwest Muse: So glad you could join us! tea sounds smashing, thank you. Will it be iced or hot? Some like it one way or the other, some prefer iced to hot in summery weather.
Linda's idea of smoothies means we now have two drinks for the drink table.
TY!
:)
With or without movies, Dim Sum & Indian food are among my favorites!
Ms Z: Yum! Love me some good chapatis! There are several really fine Indian restaurants in our area here. I love them all. Curry (the milder yellow sort) is a real fave here. I love curry in almost every way I can find it. Curries tofu and veggies is a mainstay. With brown rice, of course.
Have you blogged about your experiences in India, dearie?
I'd love to red about them!
Got any good recipes?
:)
james and jmac: You two guys will have to excuse us, now. we are an all-chicks consortium for movie fun. We suggest you and the other guys get together and enjoy your own kind of movie fun and fave goodies, and allow us to enjoy giving each other facials and pedicures, etc whilst enjoying our all-chick fun.
We love ya, but, out you go!

*closes and bolts door of All Chicks' Movie Nite Den*

(to be opened only with passkeys as handed out to the wimmin)
Μe!!! on your "Now, who wants fresh strawberries and maybe some yogurt on their waffle? "And well done for your telling to James and Jmac..Not letting us enjoy our movie night.Well,if I was there today I would have brought Coca Cola and lots of ice, cause here in Greece is too hot and ice cream, chocolate, vanilla and my moms home made cherry sweet to ρut on toρ.Νever had even heard of the movies,I will try to find them in Utube and to be to honest never have I tasted Dim Sum and Indian Food.I must find the reciρes or a very good delivery. For once again,Woman, you have made us a great Tuesday and I want to thank you so much for it.Rated with so many thank you for the invitation.Trully,I have been longing for your ρost.!!!
I've got the samosas covered. Here, my (ahem) girlfriends Jamilla and Jamaca are helping me carry them in. Swish, Jimmy, swish otherwise we're busted!
STATHI STATHI: Hurrah! So glad you could join us here. It's going to be possible a long time before I'll be hosting another one of these parties. My life is really complicated by moving and packing. Today I'm taking it easy due to a fire or fires in the area which have smoked up my home and made me weak.
So I took advantage of the situation to post again for tuesday Girls' Night In.
Can't wait to get the movie going later on!
Both are good, Monsoon Wedding is much more widely known than Republic of Love, but Republic of Love is FREE.
(there is snow in Republic of Love--would that cool you down?)
;)
V. Corso: NO SMUGGLING of the boys allowed!
jmac's beard is telltale, as is james's 5:00 shadow.
Out, you two clowns!
*sneaks them a small stash from the goody table as she leverages them out the door, locking it securely behind them*

Bring on the celery and peanut butter!
V.Corso, shame on you, you saucy minx!
pw - am going to go meet the over 40 social club now ( the name makes me gag), but will be back for late night delights. Man, I wish I were eating food right now. I'm starving.I need to find an Indian restaurant here in austin. Back later. thx for the invite. this looks fun.
I've always meant to watch Monsoon Wedding. I'll make sure I do that this summer.
And the recipes! Gosh! Now, I'm truly hungry.
Ms V: So good to see you here and now. It's always such a pleasure.
I do hope you'll join us later for a little vino and some semi wild antics. We'd miss you otherwise!
;)
I have not seen either movie but I do have net flix and am becoming an addict. I can't wait!
snarkychaser: Have you decided which one you'll see this eve?
:)
Ladies, I brought a fresh batch of Chapatis, from my Indian friend's recipe. Plus. . . . I hope you'll like this. A link to hundreds of colorful, gorgeous saree outfits. You can page through as you sip on your cardamom chai, lassi, or listen to some background music.

Bought some Samosas to the Par-tay. These movies sound great. Will check them out asap.
Julie: Aren't they stunning? Gotta love all that beautiful exotic fashion!
So glad you could make it this time!
*passes her a plate loaded with goodies*

fern-woman:Yummy! More samosas! We can never have too many!
*hands her a plateful of Indian delicacies*
*nudges her gently*
Wouldn't be the same without ya, GF!
ok, I'm not obsessing, really, I'm not
so so pretty
julie: Yeah, whatever!
;)
Psst. Knock, knock. Psst psst - Joe sent me.
Sorry I'm late! I was having a dilly of a time with a new post but wanted to stop in to check out the flix. I like Mira Nair lots and loved the Marie Antoinette movie.
nilesite: Did Mira Nair do a Marie movei? That's new sot me! Are you absolutely positive you're not thinking of the Sofia Coppola one?
*Hands her a platter of lovely Indian appetizers*
have a samosa too! VCorso and fernsy both thought to bring us some! Lucky us! Yum!
:)
You are so right! It's the Vanity Fair with Reese W.
Thanks for the snacks! anyone making tea?
nilesite: Sorry, my dear! I think you're recalling her wonderful and stunningly produced Vanity Fair?
Hehe - no need to be "sari!"
Midwest Muse brought tea. I don't see her here back here yet though.
*motions towards drink table*
We even have a smoothie maker. Meet Jacques!
;)
I had made some cardamom tea, Indian style, but if you prefer bush tea I can brew a pot of that too!
teehee!
You goofball!
:D
Fusie! perfect timing! I love the smell of cardamom!
TY!
:)
*nudges Fusie a wee bit, grinning*
So? What do you think of Bruce Greenwood?
(love those dimples!)
Or is the other film you've chosen?
@Julie: I love your selections of sarees! How do you embed links on comments? I would, if I could link this vivacious piece I found on YouTube. Let's join in, ladies!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0jgKr-GeGI&feature=fvwrel
☺ ♫♫♫
PW, you are such a wonderful hostess, thank you again for this evening . ♥
Fusie: Gotta check out that link! for now, you can try on the one I just added in an update!
:)
That is so cute and fun! Thanks Fusie!
*passes her the appetizer tray, freshly loaded*
Republic of Love is free on Netflix and I have just turned it on. As for dinner....ok, no dinner. Be back!
Dianne: yay! I do hope you'll find it's to your liking!
:)
Such an aromatic evening with the snacks, the cardamom, mango. What is it about the movies that makes you want snack that smell so good - like popcorn!
That sounds like Yoda - *snacks* that smell so good!
nilesite: We could always do popcorn for dessert!
LOL
There's an air popper in the Chicks' Night In kitchen.
Fusun *humming along*
"sadh budh gawaayi neendein udaayi" oh yeah, ain't love grand ;D
i will bring a variety of casseroles: french toast casserole, hashbrown casserole, and overnight salad, which is not strictly called a casserole, but its a whole bunch of gnarly ingredients put into one bowl, that winds up somehow tasting delicious together, so thats quite casserole-y, if you ask me.

thanks for the invite, pdub!
i saw the best exotic marigold hotel today, and the ladies in it wear saris, beautiful beautiful saris, and if you are fat? your fat just sticks out the side, and you are STILL beautiful in your sari! now, thats my kind of clothing!
Julie! I didn't know you could speak Hindi/Urdu/whatever it is! You multicultural surprise woman, you!
:)

*passes her largish bowl of freshly popped popcorn*
daisyjane: Some of the more lovely looking Indian women are the ones with a few added pounds. Saris are great for making us look and feel like exotic butterflies!
*Hands her several pretty silk saris to choose from, in a variety of colors*
The changing rooms on the other side of the potted palm, jane.
And thanks for bringing us all your yummy goodies!
*helps self to serving of French Toast cssserole*

When you get done, Jacques can fix you either a smoothie or the drink of your choice. *whispering* He's single--and is making eyes at you this very minute! Quick! Go change! there's a list of instructions on the wall for how to put on your sari.....
Wicked good fun here, I'm eating some huge sweet strawberries now and will have yogurt later. I forgot to come back last time so thanks for the reminder. I'm too lazy to cook, someone please pass me some Dim Sum, I adore it and haven't had it in ages.
Popcorn, popcorn!
I think in Indian all food sounds musical, Julie ~

SING ALONG:
♫*aloo gobi* *paneer tikka* *gulab jamun*♫
*Mein aapko pyaar kartee hoon*
Chorus: dosai! versaille! marseille! hearsay!♫

Cheers~ Badhai ho !
l'Huere: So glad you could make it this time! Aren't the strawberries to die for?
*Hands her full platter of various types of dim sum + 3 sauces*
help yourself, GF!
Chopsticks or fork, knife and spoon?
nilesite; You and Julie will have to share while I pops some more for everyone. Okay with you, Jules?
Fusie: i think darned near anything sung in Hindi (or Urdu?) sounds pretty musical, whether it's food or not! LOL
Sorry I'm late. I have sweet iced tea, regular iced tea, and if you want I brought some Irish Breakfast Tea for those of us in northern climes that might want hot tea. :)
Thank you, PW! I see you added more. :o)

Yes, I like Bruce Greenwood (he's from Noranda, QC - another Canadian export). May I offer anything to anyone before I bid farewell? Fennel seeds? Roasted chick peas? Ice-cold water with fresh lemon slices?

I have a morning appointment to prepare for tomorrow, and we're on Eastern Standard Time here. :o(
Midwest: So good of you to remember! Now we have 6--or is it 7?--separate kinds of tea to choose from. I'll have some of that lovely Irish breakfast tea to go with some of jane's French Toast casserole! Thanks so much!
:)
Hey - no biggie. I love fresh popped! You should try Trader Joe's Movie Popcorn - just like in the movie house. You got TJs? Don't go in your PJs! (Teehee teehee, she giggles to herself).
Fusie: Aww! Pooh! We'll all miss you so! But I am gratified you were able to join us and bring along that lovely link of yours! And your sweet company, most of all.
Have a lovely evening, dearie! Sleep well!
:D
nilesite: Silly! We're supposed to have a TJ's sometime next year, I hear. Wonder if it'll pan out? For now, there's fresh popped and lots of fattening butter or various toppings. Also, salt and spices to choose from. Do help yourself!
:)
*Boogies down to music from Fusie's chosen Bollywood video*
It's getting late. I'm starting to get blinky. (Takes last sip of Irish Breakfast tea, sets down her cup, toddles off, smiling).
Bado ko namaskar, all my friends! Enjoy yourselves. See you at the next Chicks Night.

Merci milles fois, ma belle PW! ♥
Fusie: Merci beaucoup, cherie!
nilesite: Have a lovely night! So glad you could join us.
:)
Good night Fusun! schlaf gut!

oh no PW- that was me cutting and pasting, not actually speaking. It was a line in the song Fusun posted and means: I have lost my senses and my sleep :D which just made me laugh
A quick peek to see what is going on. The noise is unbelievable, ladies! I am, unfortunately, tied up with editing and proofreading and all those nasty things that accompany this profession.
Save some waffles for me. I'll heat them up for breakfast with tea.
Thank you for the invite! It has been a long time since I've attended a soiree.
Stayed up too late last night then worked all day, very busy of course. Tired tonight for a party but I enjoy the invite and company in the thread, Monsoon WEdding is good I have enjoyed it before.
Hope all my pals have fun ! Thanks Pea dubb.
Sorry, I'm so late here Pea-Dubb! I'm still at work and have only a banana, grapes and strawberries to share!

I haven't seen either of these movies yet.

Hi everyone! : )
Julie: LOL What with your schedule, I suppose it isn't surprising!
:)
A little FYI, The Republic of Love's music that is playing during the time Fay's mother is grieving from her husband leaving her is the song of Buddah's mother as she went into labor with him.
You can see this in the Keanu eeves movie "Little Buddha"
Sorry, I'm late darlings! Meeting the people in my new hometown, who are lovely and welcoming. I cringed at the sound of Over 40 Social club, but it was nice.

so, I have my strawberries, am wearing my green indian silk scart, and only have strawberries and beer.

The flicks looks great. I need to watch Monsoon Wedding..not clear is out already or coming soon?

Now I am going to see what sari I want to wear.
vanessa: Hope all's going swimmingly for you in the editing process, dearie!
Thanks for stopping by!
*smuggles her a packet of fresh, warm waffles to rewarm for her breakfast an a thermos of Fusie's cardamom tea*
Night, Ms V!
rita: So sorry you've been so weary. Maybe next time, then.
*passes along a "Doggy Bag" of goodies for her to enjoy when time permits*

Little Kate: Wow! You have never seen Monsoon Wedding? I predict enjoyment for you! republic of love is also delightful, tho' less well known.

*Hands her a plate of fresh waffles to go with her fruit and a few samosas*
doh, ok so you said it's been out awhile. will make a point to watch Monsoon Wedding.
Dianne: I thought it sounded familiar! I loved Little Buddha! My fave Keanu movie other than Something's Gotta Give.

*Passes along the Appetizer tray*
Pandora: It has been out quite a while. However, lots of people have yet to discover either of these fine films. My first viewing of Monsoon Wedding was at the theatre. I've watched it on DVD many times since that point.
As for our other film, I've seen it now perhaps 20 times. It's a big favorite.
I do hope they'll please your film palate.
No, I've not seen either!!!! I am deprived, right?

Waffles and Samosas!!!! YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That just made my lunch of fruit so ABSOLUTELY YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Little Kate: If only we could make the virtual food into actual food! Samosas are amazing.
:)
@Pandora - Monsoon Wedding is truly fabulous. Get it soon. You won't regret it! Can I filch a strawberry before I go off to bed?
ok, so the saris are and salwar are lovely. Samos, yes! I lived in bombay many years ago and STUFFED myself with Xavier's samosas. What I really miss is good chutney.
I am STILL hungry, or maybe it is hungry again.
All your food talk, man...
I would love to have an indian outfit here in Austin. It's really hot, which I love, but flowing clothes would be just the thing...
And bindi!! I want a lovely henna bindi winding up my arm. Wasn't that beautiful?
Midwest: have as many as you like!
*hands off a "doggy bag" of fresh fruit and waffles for rewarming in the morning, and a few leftover samosas*
Enjoy!
Thanks so much for coming.
Have a nice night!
you've seen these 20 times?!! Well, clearly I need to watch them then.!!!
Pandora: Oh yes! I thought the henna art was fabulous! So full of detail!
Please let us know if you'd like your own breakfast doggy bag, too.
:)

What did you think of Dubey? He really makes me laugh and smile. So funny!
I hope you enjoy the strawberries as much as I did, Midwest!

May I have another samosa? (no matter they're virtual ... I can still enjoy!)
I don't want to burst anyone's bubble here, but when it comes to tea, I am the master of ceremonies...as in hands down! Great post, PW. R
republic of Love is a love story worth repeating, but not for everyone. I come from the north, not Canadian, but north. I have a bit of a preference for things Canadian, including men. Paul Gross. Bruce Greenwood...both stunners. Both musically inclined as well.
;)
Right now, I'm watching Monsoon Wedding. The women are in the garden, singing together, celebrating the wedding to come.
:)
I love this movie so much!
Thoth: What is it about you and jmac and james which seems to make you three guys think we'll let you join our all-chicks gathering?

*Smuggles him some fresh samosas through the partially opened doorway*
Be off with you, my good fellow! Try jmac or james for more fun. This here's Chicks Only territory this evening till the dawn's early light, and you three know it, you big stinkers!
Sheesh!
Midwest Muse, my sweet lil buckaroo, strawberries are cored and room temp, just for you. To go with your pink cowboy boots and print dress. Or maybe your sari. Now you know what else you need? A punka wallah, a guy who pulls the cord that keeps the fan moving over your head. You'll be divine in that scene. OK, so clearly I have to find this movie.
I managed to find it for free at YouTube, without logging in! Surprising. I was only expecting a trailer to the film, and got the whole blessed thing instead! LOL The quality's not great, but I already have seen it countless times, so no big deal.

And you're right. we need someone sweet and handsome and Indian to fan us in our saris. jacque's fine for dispensing drinks and making eyes at, but he's from the EU. LOL
PW, thanks for the invite, really. I hope I will get another, and promise to arrive earlier. I think Canadian men are nice too ( batting eyes), although I don't know the ones you're talking about. I have to get to bed.
1. it's getting darn hot here, so must get outside while it's early b. not having a job, I have to enforce SOME discipline on myself.

mwah, girlies. :-)
I am wearing a wig...and a bit of lipstick....and Lord knows I look 9 months pregnant!!!
So I can stay ...right???
EEK!!! It's JD ... does that stand for "Just Divine"? 'Cos you do look just divine in that sari!!!
JD: GAH! be off with you! No boys allowed, period!
And your pillow's slipping, silly.
*Passing him a doggy bag full of waffles and samosas* You owe me one, bro.
Now scram, silly fellow!
'raus!
Awww, Pea-Dubb ... he looks SO CUTE though!!!
OK...first of all...that is not my pillow sagging!!!
sniff sniff.....is that food?????
What if I sit in the corner and pretend to be a puppy?
The trouble is, if we were to allow even one of these guys, we'd end up having to allow them all, and that, I'm afraid would never do for me. They can always create their own parties. they don't require us to entertain them--they're grown men!
I've heard of Monsoon Wedding but not Republic of Love; both sound really good and I also love Indian food. I'll have to read the books first though. Yum, I love spicy chickpeas and tandoori chicken. And dim sum too. But waffles. Waffles? I I don't like waffles much so I'll pass on those. How about dumplings. With plum sauce. Sounds like a good time.
Hi Marg! So glad you could come by!
Carol Shields' book, The Republic of Love, is a canadian near classic. as for Monsoon wedding, I'm not certain its source is a book at all. I believe it to be purely a script movie.
I happen to be watching it right now! It's so gorgeous. I just love it.

Samosa? Or would waffles and fruit or a smoothie suit you?
Fine....I'll just go home and read my copy of MEN POETS QUARTERLY
They have Homer Simpson on the cover again..... damn!!!!

Nite!!!
Have fun!!!
See you tomorrow, JD!
;)
Sorry Margaret! I'm a tad bit sleepy this evening. Dumplings and plum sauce it is!
**shares half of her samosa with JD**

Here buddy. Pea-Dubb's right. This is girls night I'm afraid.
Kate: i've already smuggled him a doggy bag full of waffles and samosas! LOL
Damn that Homer Simpson anyway!!!!
Why does he have to be such a GREAT POET???
Opppsssss...off with me now......nite.
(Homer Simpson? how many words rhyme with "Doh!"?)
Oh! Sorry Pea-Dubb! He didn't tell me! I guess we know now why he has that very ... um ... natural looking "pregnancy" tummy! He DOES love his food!
Kate: LOL Maybe that's one reason why he seems fixated on Homer Simpson?
The comment above your "SO CUTE" comment will explain all.....
He's a cheeky one, that JD!

For sure!!!!!

: )
I gotta head for bed now, dear Kate. It's really past my normal bedtime here and i am really wiped out.
But I had a good time, and I'm so glad you were a part of it.

My Thanks to any and all who stopped by (even the silly guys who keep trying to crash our Chick Nights--they gave at least a giggle). I've so enjoyed everyone' s company this evening.

Good Night, dear Kate!
Nite PW!!!!

Oh wait...I'm not here.....Katie....pull that table cloth back over my head!!!
Ummm...... JD, what are YOU still doing here!!!!

Goodnight, Pea-Dubb. Sleep well.

AND GOODNIGHT, JD!!!!

SHEESH!!!!!
**pulls tablecloth over JD's head**
GAH!
JD?
No more arguments!
*examines evidence of raid on food trays*And no more samosas for you, my fine fellow!
*Removes goody trays to kitchen freezer, locks kitchen door, ushers JD by the ear out into the hallway outside the Chicks' Retreat*

What don't you fellas understand about the word "No"? Sheesh!

*Glances around at damage done (table cloth askew, jimmied doorlock, etc).*

Better call Maintenance in the morning, I guess....

Well, at least JD removed that ridiculous disguise. I much prefer a man who looks like his real self.

WHAT IS IT about some guys, that they feel so inclined to crash our parties? Can't they have parties of their own? All that creativity, and not one of them could organize a guy party if you paid him, I'll bet.
So silly! Because, really, what they want is our attention. They don't really care for our style of movies.

No...I take that back. What they want is for us to notice them, single them out, and allow just them to attend.

Not going to happen at PW's house of Chick Parties, lemme tellya.

Coed parties are not out of the question at some point in the future. Just not for Foody Tuesday Chick Nights In. Period.

Got that, fellas?

PW has left the building. (and so has JD, thank goodness! Whew!)
