High Park Fire Worse: THINK RAIN!

Rate: 5 Flag

8 Wildfires currently are being fought in Colorado alone

If you go to this URL, you can see a truly fascinating short video (which cannot be embedded):

 http://www.noco5.com/story/18855397/high-park-fire-191-homes-destroyed

It was taken by the local National Guard, bless them, as they try and save homes and forest land.

CLUE: 10,000 acres = approximately 15 square miles

Today's Numbers: Not good.  81,190 acres already burned; still at 45% containment; $27.6 million dollars spent thus far; 1923 personnel fighting this fire; also 13 type 1 Hand Crews; 22 Type 2 Hand Crews; 135 engines; 11 dozers and 27 water tenders; 6 Type 1 helicopters; 3 Type 2 Helicopters; 5 heavy air tankers; and fixed wing support aircraft (I assume for reconnaissance work)

Windy and dry conditions keep pushing the fire outside its former bounds, and with no rain in the forecast for about a week at the very least, things simply do not look good.

Please I would ask everyone to think good thoughts about wet weather which doesn't whip the flames into greater fury nor add any further lightning strikes.

Think RAIN, please, all. Lots of it--for 3 straight days, gently and unceasingly falling all over the fire's territory and any surrounding land for 2 miles at least.

Any prayers will greatly be appreciated as well.

With a sinking heart

Yours stuck indoors, home sealed due to smoke during 90 degree weather

I feel like we're all under house arrest. No kids out playing. It's so quiet here today. And the minute one opens either a door or window on the outside, a heavy dose of smoke-filled air hits them.
:(
When my mom lived way up the hill they had a fire like this and she actually inhaled poison oak fumes and became sick.
Stay in, be safe and yes I will pray for rain! I fear our wind the last few days is heading your way...
I hate to think of the destruction. I will certainly send prayers for rain, as well as for any other means to end these horrible fires.

If we could figure out a way to convince Mother Nature to transport Debbie to Colorado.. well, maybe not, would that be too much?

Take care PWRD.. here's hoping for that gentle rain and that the smoke damage for those homes remaining is not unrecoverable.

Rated for concern.
LL2: Thanks, friend!
Is your mom still among the living? If so, I do hope she's okay now.

onislandtime: Thank you so much! We can use all the help we can get!
Seer: Thank you, friend!
There's always hope, even when things look ghastly.
I forgot to list how many HOMES HAVE BEEN LOST:

191

:(
PWRD- sending wet thoughts your way!
Pandora: I suppose that might be taken two ways LOL
;)
Thank you, dearie!
I've seen the news and it looks terrible. People losing there homes is a big deal. Losing the little things you have had all your life is hard. Rain Baby Rain, Rain Baby Rain!
I'm so sorry you and everyone else is trapped inside and stressed out with worry, and the firefighters must be exhausted. I will pray/meditate for steady rain, it's scary to look at that map.
scanner: yes! "Rain, baby rain!" Thanks, bro'!
All we've had is a mostly fry and blustery couple of thunderstorms.
;(

l'Heure: Thank you so much, dearie! Today, the had a "changing of the guard" with fresh fire fighters sent in to relieve the ones who've been working in shifts for over 2 weeks. It's S.O.P.
But I just bet you are right. The must be really tired by now.
