Lily on the stoll beside, me, seeks petting and wants me to turn on some music! Plan for today, get down to the Y, phone bank, work on my prose manuscript from the time in Asheville.
Making these "poems" into prose vignettes was a very good idea. I am getting new ideas for editing this work. I can see the flaws much more clearly. That's key. It took a lot of work to get there. Nothing of value comes easily, I realize. I like one or two sentence sayings, short, with content that has an original twist and which stimulate new thinking in me.
Going through books of saying, for ideas. I would like to produce a collection of sayings with commentary or a prose introduction. But there are so many collections of sayings out there. I need an original concept.
I will give you an example of the great sayings I am coming across, below.
Maybe I'll go to the open mic Wednesday. maybe attend an Episcopal service, also. Need to get out of the house some more. But I like very much driving less. We live so close to Panera Bread coffee house, the grocery store, drug store, service station, etc.
I am still ambivalent about my high school reunion. It's the last one possible, i imagine, the 50th. High school was such a pivotal experience for me. Growing up in a single-parent home home with mental illness, on the edge of poverty: this was mainly a middle-class school, good academically. I became involved as sports editor of school paper and on the baseball team. I would call it a "normalizing" experience for me. Kids who come from troubled environments need that kind of experience.
If I do go, I would like to talk to kids at the school about the civil rights movement that was in process when i was a senior and the school was integrated with one girl! Why would they send one girl into that situation?
I remember, though, she was in a track meet at the school and tripped and fell and girls and runners from both schools stopped and helped her to her feet and kids in the stands cheered. A good omen.
I may try to contact the lady in charge of subs again about substitute teaching this year. Or not. She did not respiond to my phone call. If I can email her without feeling worse if she does not respond, I will do it.
The shooting in Milwaukee. Copy-cat shooting, obviously. But he may be a white supremacist. We are in deep trouble in this country, with the extreme right and their hateful agenda.
Now, for a few of those sayings...these on the theme of memory...
"It's suprising how much of memory is built around things unnoticed at the time"
"Don't brood on what's past, but don't forget it either"
"Each of us is the accumulation of our memories"
"One form ofm lonelinessx is to have a memory and no one to share it with"
