It's easy to ignore women, when the unspoken "generic" person is male.
It's amazing that an op-ed in what used to be a reputable newspaper would display such obvious ignorance.
The latest GOP outrage against women shows, once again, that we are forced to choose to be gawked at as an alien species, or ignored. Meanwhile, our unpaid work goes unrecognized.
The GOP wants to turn the War on Women, & the debate over the economy, into a morality play.

Chris Matthews Does it Again

While he seems to like to think of himself as evolved, liberal, open-minded and lacking bias, Chris Matthews consistently shows himself to be clueless when it comes to modern women.

Moments ago at this posting, Matthews said in his "Let Me Finish" segment: "Men are particularly sensitive to humiliati… Read full post »

Secret Service Prostitution Scandal

Crossposted @ opednews.com:

The Secret Service scandal is certainly of great concern, in terms of presidential security. But there are two details that I find noteworthy:

1) Two secret agents reportedly expected a prostitute to basically perform a "two for the price of one" deal for them;

2) Wh… Read full post »

The "Mommy Dividend"

Not wasting the opportunity that Hilary Rosen has created.
Rosen's comments (for which she has apologized) reveals weaknesses in liberals' responses to the Right's War on Women.
Rush's "apology" underscored the attitude that women's pain and disease are not even worth hearing, much less treating.

Sickening & Hypocritical

In the wake of Rush Limbaugh's horrendous comments about Sandra Fluke, who testified about medical, non-contraceptive needs that women have for birth control pills, here's my latest piece on opednews, raising the issue of whether feminists are being "shocked" (in the Naomi Klein sense)… Read full post »

Feminists "Shocked" into Defense?

By being so ruthlessly extreme, aggressive, hostile, misogynistic - it's hard to find enough adjectives - the right may be forcing feminists onto the defensive. A call for a more "offensive" stance from decades ago.

The Misogyny Continues.......

Well, the misogyny of election 2012 continues - in fact it seems to be escalating, with attacks on women's health care, family planning, etc.

In the meantime,  I have neglected to add my latest opeds from opednews, where I am a trusted author. The first explores the question of when the… Read full post »

Religious Liberty must be balanced against establishment, and hospitals and universities should be distinguished from pervasively sectarian organizations.

How Does RW Decide What's Private?

Is there any logic underlying Newt's righteous indignation at John King's "open marriage" question?

In this absolutely fascinating segment, Rachel shows that Michael Steele is totally confused about civil rights. He tries to make the point that moving abortion laws to the state is more democratic, but when Rachel asks whether states have the right to allow private businesses to discriminate he… Read full post »

Old Enough to be Raped

The shocking betrayal by Obama's HHS Secretary involved woefully little consideration of rape victims.
Rachel Maddow appears to be alone among pundits, in reporting on Gingrich's alleged scam operations. Why?

Social Security taxes only apply to the first $106,000.00 of income. Lifting this cap would: 1) increase fairness, 2) make social security solvent, 3) help the elderly and disabled, by not cutting their benefits, and 4) stimulate the economy, when recipients are able to pRead full post »

Ridiculous attacks on Michelle Obama's healthy food efforts ignore the real restrictions on our food choices.

Almost as soon as the Supercommittee was formed to address the deficit - predictably - the MSM took up the Republican talking point that the committee's job was to cut spending. Never mind that the deficit could be reduced by both spending cuts and revenue increases. Never mind that simply allowing… Read full post »

Wifely Submission

Bachmann's answer to the "wifely submission" question illustrates the mixed messages candidates like her and Palin use on gender and motherhood. Progressives need to deconstruct the confusion.

Ever since George Lakoff made "framing" a common term, we've become familiar with numerous right-wing attempts to make policy initiatives sound like the opposite of what they are. You've probably heard them all: "Clear Skies Initiative," "death tax," "Healthy Forests," pro-life," "family values."&nbs… Read full post »

Trump's McCarthyism

Trump's message may be one of race-baiting, but his tactics are those of McCarthyism.
