Open Salon down to due lack of Spammer traffic

Rate: 26 Flag

New York, NY (UPI) - Web site Open Salon.com was down for several hours today. According to an unnamed source in their midtown Manhattan offices, the outage was due to a reverse vortex effect, when million of Spammers ceased posting because of the high heat and humidity over much of the eastern third of the US.

The source explained that the dearth of spam postings actually reversed the flow of traffic on Open Salon. Fortunately for human poster none of the content was lost to external internet tubes.

When real content was discovered to being "sucked down the internet rat hole," as the unnamed source described, the site was shut down until the system could be stabilized.

According the Open Salon's source, "we didn't lose any content. Even the crap that gets posted by furry animals who think they can write was also kept for posterity."

Wow, I'm glad that got cleared up. I actually thought the Gods of Salon were going to do something constructive. But I notice the site is back up and the spam is chugging merrily along over there in the left hand column.
Our anti-spam campaign worked only too well!
Walt -- Back from their cool down break.

Myriad -- Yeah be careful what you wish for.

Alan -- only in America.
They were trying to hijack the Readers Picks.
Thank you for clearing that up!!!!
Very funny, Sheepdog. I couldn't get on OS till around 2:30. So much for progress!
Zerry worked heroically to get the Commodore 16 server back up.

With the high temps, the hamsters need a longer break from powering the servers.
And a collect sigh of relief was heard when we realized we would not all have to flock to facebook and reduce our posts from 5000 words to 5.
Hilarious -- ever think of writing for the Onion?
Oh and after he gott he Commodore working again, he sent a group PM begging the spammers to return.
Rated for bring truth to the masses. ~r
No, English IS my first language. That should be "bringing."

Wanna buy a football jersey...?
Phew! I felt like my oars had fallen into the water.
Whew. Good to know we haven't lost any writings of furry animals!

Yeah, but Huffington post was up and running. Get it together you guys.
and I arrived an hour early at work to post the world's greatest, only partially stolen, somewhat true almost cohesive stream of conscious run on sentence posing as thought. I had a basket of ratings to give out and love for my fellow man and I was shut out, refused entrance, scorned like an honest man at an Alec meeting.

Well at least I was not alone- on I dried my tears and blew my nose in the ratings- do people still want them? It got so bad i even read an article in regular Salon- don't leave me out there.
No spam=dried up financial flow. Yeah, I think the spammers pay to be here. Why else would they not be dealt with?
Off to back up my blog~~
In the wee hours this morning while I was busy saving other peoples' lives during my secret life as a suicide hotline volunteer, I couldn't get on OS. I was so distraught I called myself.
And...still can't get on except through Salon.com.
LOL @ Margaret almost calling herself at the suicide hotline.. HA!!!
More more more more more more more more spam, ya know?

I at first thought it was just me, because yesterday my service went down for about 12 hours, and when it came back up, it wouldn't let me access OS or my photo sites. I was starting to get paranoid until I realize, "Hey, it's not paranoia if they're really out to get me -- and they ARE."

Whew. I was afraid it might have been something I said...er, typed.
Down to due lack? This might get an EP or that guerilla RC.

6:00pm EDT Friday, one Spam post in activity feed representing 5% of current traffic... something is going right!!
I have a sneaking suspicion most of those spammers are not located in the eastern third of the US.
And here I thought it was just down. I knew spammers were good for something
Thanks for this most clever explanation. Sums it up well.
I KNOW I am terribly late, but I have had so much fun reading and laughing,I figured spam must be good for something.
And as of today, sunday ,june 24,I see it as a preludium which allows hope for a good outcome of the major part,Open Salon.
Erica,I nearly rolled on the floor after reading your remark.
Sorry,I meant Margaret Feike.
