We went to Virginia for a week. Fortunately we were there for the week of cooler weather.
It was just us adults for a week. Sort of. A bunch of us who are old friends decided to all get together in rural Virgina. Bedford County - where the National D-Day Memorial is located.
The drive down was beautiful.
I took that somewhere in West Virginia at a rest area. Where exactly I can't recall though I do know it was somewhere on Interstate 64.
On Wednesday we climbed Sharp Top Mountain. Lest you think this was an endeavor in endurance please understand there is a BUS which takes you to within 1500 feet of the top of the mountain and you stroll casually up a series of steps to the top. Then you can either stroll casually back down the 1500 feet to where the bus picks you up OR you can be brave and hike the mile and a half back to where you caught the bus. The view is magnificent though.
On Thursday I got to watch "Chicken Wrangling". I won't describe the scene beyond mentioning that 5 adult humans and one search and rescue dog were
almost outsmarted by a chicken... whilst I laughed my ass off watching from the comfort of my lawn chair. Being an old farm hand I KNOW better than to CHASE chickens around the yard trying to catch them... obviously there weren't a lot of old farm folks around though. *Giggles*
On Friday we went tubing own the James River. Imagine if you will (those of you who have seen pictures of me), MY fat ass sitting in an inner tube on a river with a rocky bottom and less than 2 feet of barely moving water in it. Suffice it to say my backside is black and blue and scraped and we shall leave that discussion right there as well. Other than to say that it took us three hours to go a mile down river and then give up on the tubing experience.
On the other hand I saw the neatest old house at the point where we launched the tubes into the river...
I'll tell y'all about Appomattox and the trip home (which took three damn days might I add) another day... it was was as much of an adventure as therest of the week.
