Hello! I spent a lot of time deciding if I should go by the name miss-educated, or miss-educator... I don't know which is worse, but I am pretty sure they both describe me. Not that I don't try my best, but my career as a junior high English teacher involves a lot of time feeling like I could never possibly have enough resources to do our youth any justice. Still, beyond the struggle, I love teaching and learning and I try to do the best I can possibly do. For this blog, I am not focusing so much on strict theory or research or policy or politics. I just hope to give a small window into the daily issues we educators face each day.

Mobiles

Rate: 1 Flag

As much as I like to complain, today I have some glee.  Glee in the form of mobiles.

Remember these colorful fits of joy?  These wobbly sunbeam distractions hanging from the ceiling of your classroom?  Ah, yes.   Mobiles.

Maybe I am a bit more old skool than I ever thought.  I mean, they don't really translate into any sort of "real life" situation.  There's no "group work," or even much technology incorporated into the project.  I've gotten a few neurotic emails about them ("Can I bring it to you before school?" and "Exactly how many objects need to hang from my hanger?"), and a couple of kids have typed their important information.  But for the most part, there really is nothing modern to be concerned with.

Just a coat hanger, some string, and crap around the house.

But I can incorporate just about any standard.  So don't look at me like I don't got pedagogy!

 And the kids love em.

Fantastic.
