During those dismal months
our souls only sparked alive
when we held hands
and spoke of the love
for each other
You languished
in your deathbed
for months fading away
with each rising and setting
of the sun
We ignited alive like fireflies
during a warm summer night
fading when visiting hour was over
those goodbyes dousing our light
until the next visit
All through those months
my soul dimmed and wilted
lay flaccid about me
but I willed my body
to look alive for you
The evening you passed
the skies wept a heavy rain
when they pried you
from my arms no sound I made
for a piece of me went with you
That night I walked until sunrise
the cold rain beating upon me
a reminder I was still alive
the night sky was lowing
I wished it to envelop me
I prayed the night would take me
that I would find you among
the cosmos that in the stars
you and I would add to the light
and survive together forever
