In the darkness
only the sound of the wind
breeze through the leaves
In the darkness
water trickles in the distant creek
as blood circulates through a body
In the darkness
far-off barking carried in the wind
lonely dogs don’t sleep
In the darkness
nocturnal creatures come awake
scurrying with wide open pupils
In the darkness
one lies awake listening to the wind
hoping for a miracle
In the darkness
there is only one image that of
hope teetering on the edge of despair
In the darkness
there comes a moment
when one feels consumed
In the darkness
one can seldom speak
for the tongue lies dry and flat
In the darkness
a recurring motion
of hands clasping and unclasping
In the darkness
prayers are started
but rarely completed
In the darkness
the echoes of time
become a burden
In the darkness
one anxiously awaits the dawn
a reprieve from the darkness

comes the dream
or nightmare
lie quietly
I am a different light
I am not afraid to fly
It all speaks.
I like this confluence of posts, too.
This grabs me!
Some of us wait
For the darkness to give us reprieve...
more than an exhortation to keep our emotions in check, it means, literally, do not allow your fears to become who you are; if it weren't for the night, there would be no point in awaiting the dawn.
