"American Idol" Recap: Glambert Resurrects Elvis!

Rate: 26 Flag

Top 9, Season 9

If he were alive, he would be 75 years old. But on this week's "American Idol," Elvis, the King of Rock and Roll, who remains dead, despite what conspiracy theorists would have us believe, was resurrected for one night only. (Unless, of course, you're in Vegas. There are a million Elvises every night in Vegas.)

As for Elvis week, it was as dead as Elvis.

But all was not lost. At least Adam Lambert was going to be the lucky contestants' mentor. I won't bore you with the ad nauseum details of what a ridiculously obsessed fanatical fan I am of Adam Lambert. What you should know is that Lambert was the first contestant ever to be asked to come back to be a mentor. He did a valiant job of trying to light a fire under the contestant's behinds. Not an easy feat with this sullen and hesitant group.

Lambert wasn't the only surprise on this week's "Idol." In a dramatic and unprecedented move on last Wednesday's results show, Big Mike was, surprisingly, at the bottom of the bottom three and in danger of being voted off. The judges came through and wisely decided to save him. The world heaved a sigh of relief. But that meant that two contestants would be voted off this week. The heat was on for the remaining nine.

adam lambert

(Adam Lambert--my favorite American Idol ever!)

 Crystal Bowersox

First up was Crystal Bowersox. Lambert wisely encouraged her to ramp up her music by using an electric guitar and “letting her dreads down.”  Crystal stole Big Mike’s thunder and sang “Saved”.  She took an Elvis song and crystallized it.  She was strong, changed the tempo around, took charge, had lots of energy and made me forget there ever was an Elvis.  Adam gave great advice.

Randy:  “I’m a broken record.  That’s the way to give it up.  Cool blues vibe. It was dope.  It could have been the second coming of Bonnie Raitt.  I loved it.”  Randy feels like a broken record?  I can so relate!

Simon:  “What I loved about that was that you didn’t choose an obvious song, you put your own slant on it and you didn’t fall into the karaoke trap.  Original, sounded great and once again, congratulations.

andrew Garcia

Andrew Garcia:  Lambert attempted to coach Andrew by being honest, a novel concept as all past mentors have played it PC and nicey nicey, a strategy that has been helpful to no one.  He told Andrew he was bored and encouraged him to get some life into the song.

Lambert’s words fell on deaf ears.  Andrew sang “Hound Dog” and I wanted to howl.  In fact, once Andrew started singing, my dog started howling.   Andrew sang with a Beatnik kind of beat and I was left wondering who he sounded like, Elvis or Maynard G. Krebs?  Andrew was also a little too preoccupied with his microphone, dragging it along like a reluctant lover.   It seemed almost hostile.

Randy:  “I hate to say this, but that was definitely not good karaoke.”  Is there any such thing as “not good karaoke”?  Isn’t karaoke in and of itself, not good?

Ellen:  “I wish you’d put a little more swagger into it.  I thought you pulled it off.”  Ellen should stick with asking the audience who was having a birthday.

Simon:  “Lazy and unpredictable. All of your coolness has been sucked out of you right now with this awful performance.”

 tim Urban

Tim Urban was next.  Between you and me, I thought Adam had a crush.  He used words like “pretty” and “lovely” to describe Tim’s voice and guitar playing abilities.  He was encouraging Tim to be more vulnerable.  (I won’t swear by it, but I think I saw Adam slip his phone number to Tim.)

Tim sang “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You”.   Whoa!  Elvis lives inside Tim Urban!  Who would have thunk?  Well, a slight exaggeration but at least Tim held the notes and didn’t fall off the stool he was sitting on.  One can always find something to be grateful for.

Ellen:  “The first shot I took of tequila I didn’t know if I’d like it or not, and then I took another and then another and then another and then I loved it.  I loved you.  I can’t help falling in love with you.  That was beautiful.”  Another pre-canned response from Ellen that was a blatant encouragement to all the tweens to experiment with tequila.  Shame on Ellen!  Now there will be tequila crazed tweens texting for Tim all night.

Simon:  “You have managed to go from zero to hero in two weeks.”  Simon doesn’t give a rip about this show anymore.

lee Dewyze

Lee Dewyze:  Adam confronted Lee, “Your voice is great but there’s nothing going on.  Smile, be playful.  It sounds awesome.”

Lee sang “A Little Less Conversation”.  Lee wisely took Adam’s advice to heart.  He had a much-needed connection with the audience and great results with his sexy and raspy vocals.

Randy:  “Yo, yo.  Dude, you were in the zone.  That was dope.  Another great amazing performance.  Very good dude."   Randy was getting excited about 420.

Kara:  “I’ve never seen you go for it vocally like you did tonight.  You really went for it and I saw an intensity I hadn’t seen before.  The vocal was fire.  Get it a little looser.”

aaron Kelly

Aaron Kelly:  Adam was trying desperately to get Aaron to give the song more energy.  “GRAB IT AARON!  GET AGGRESSIVE WITH IT!”  Oh, Lambert was being a naughty boy.  Aaron looked uncomfortable and was last seen looking for Mommy.

Aaron sang “Blue Suede Shoes” and I cringed.  Aaron tried desperately to be sexy and Elvisesque, but how can Linus be sexy?  Maybe Aaron could get a spot on Glee…or Sesame Street.

Ellen:  “You chose the most iconic of Elvis’s song and it was a big song.  ‘A’ for effort.” Ellen needs to become an elementary school teacher.

Kara:  “You’re out of your comfort zone and I liked it.  I really liked it.”  Kara was out of her mind.

Simon:  “It was like someone at a high school doing a concert at the end.  What’s frustrating is that you didn’t make it young and it was very karaoke.”  Simon was the only sane one.

siobhan Magnus

Siobhan Magnus:  Adam said, “She’s got the pipes but it felt sleepy to me.  It needs a little fire, a little movement.”  Those two definitely had some competing crazy Elvis pompadour hair going on.

Siobhan sang “Suspicious Minds”.  The first half of the song was just odd, starting off on the stairs singing into the back of the stage.  Siobhan didn’t know North from South.  Her voice was great but it sounded sluggish, like she was kind of over the whole “American Idol” and being judged thing.  The second half was more vintage Siobhan when she let those crazy strong vocal cords loose.

Kara:   “Two different voices are getting confusing to me.  The first half was gentle, the second half, your voice was screaming.”

Simon:  “The first part was terrible and when you hit the big notes later on, it sounded erratic and screechy.  You’ve lost who you were two or three weeks ago.”

Siobhan:  “I don’t think it’s necessary to be labeled.  I don’t label myself.”  The crowd roared its approval and I was confused. Was Siobhan being a rebel or a diva?  You decide.

 michael Lynche

Michael Lynche:  “In the spirit of Elvis, Michael could bring a little more of the story teller out”, Adam said.  But Michael protested saying that Simon had told him he was too theatrical.  Who would Big Mike listen to?

Big Mike sang “In the Ghetto”. I enjoyed his gospel/bluesy rendition of the song.  Big Mike was tough and tender but forgettable and that’s what he got for listening to Simon.

Randy:  “A little sleepy for me but those were hot vocals.  Hot!  Hot!” Simmer down there Randy.

Simon:  “A million billion times better than last week.  It was a terrific choice of song.  Well done!”  Simon was playing favorites.

katie Stevens

Katie Stevens:  Katie was angry and confused about the judges’ feedback.  Adam encouraged her to show that anger.  “Let it out, sell it a little more, make us believe it!”

Katie sang “Baby What You Want Me to Do”. There was something disturbingly old about Katie.  And she’d adopted that bobble head motion of Kara’s and it was not a good look.  And she never managed to come close to sounding angry.  I loved Katie’s voice.  It was spectacular but as a performer, I felt like she was faking it.

Ellen:  “It was a very horny song.”  Ugh.  Ellen was flirting with Katie.  Isn’t Katie a minor?

Simon:  “For me it was loud and a bit annoying.  Again, I just didn’t like the song very much.  The other judges liked it so it really doesn’t matter what I think.”  Another clear sign of resignation from Simon.

 casey James

Casey James:  Casey’s song, “Lawdy, Miss Clawdy” started abruptly, as if in mid-performance.  It was  perfectly fine but it was also amnesiac inducing.  I would have loved it if he had sang, “Love Me Tender”.  But Kara may have gone all crazy cougar on us and made a spectacle out of herself.  Oh wait, she’s already done that all season long.

Randy: “ I didn’t see anything different but another solid performance.”

Kara: “We know you have brilliance and that wasn’t.”  I told you he should have sang “Love Me Tender”!

Simon:  “A wasted opportunity, but your vocal was good.”

Let’s face it.  Watching Season 9 of “American Idol” is not unlike the motorists who slow down to see the wreckage, death and disaster of a car crash.  There’s something morbidly fascinating about seeing all that destruction up close and personal.  We are such an unevolved species.

So, Wednesday night there will be a double elimination.  I can’t tell you how much relief that brings me.

My top 3:  Crystal, Lee and Casey (in no particular order).

Bottom 3:  Aaron, Andrew and Siobhan with a fond buh bye to Aaron and Andrew.

Poor Elvis.  He was most likely rolling over in his grave.  At this rate, I’ll be joining him soon.

UPDATE:  THE TWEEN TEXTERS HAVE THROWN DOWN THE GAUNTLET:

This is more serious than I thought.  Both Tim Urban and Aaron Kelly remain standing after last night's results show.  Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens were sent packing.  Not that there's anything wrong with either one of them going.  But, Aaron and Tim part of the Top 7?  Time to take back the power folks.  Next week, we must all pretend we're 13 years old and text the night away.  With these tweens in power, no one is safe.  If you need any reminders, think Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert.

Didn't get to watch tonight. Thank you MaryT.
Not a big Adam Lambert fan, but Lambert has more charisma than most of this season's contestants combined. He definitely looked the part, an Elvis for the twenty-first century. Aaron looked and sounded ridiculous singing Blue Suede Shoes, maybe he resembled a 12 year 0ld, pre-adolescent Elvis. I started cringing when he announced Blue Suede Shoes as his song of choice, you could just sense the impending disaster. Crystal and Lee are the only ones that I can stand listening to. But I doubt either can get the teen audience who do the bulk of the voting to support them in numbers sufficient to win, ultimately.
Adam was wonderful as a mentor... I was a little concerned since he is so recently off of the idol stage, but he was honest (telling Andrew he was boring) and ... vague with a few people (Grab it, Aaron!) but I think that's because there was really nothing more he could say to them to help them save themselves.

ok, so Crystal is just always good... I don't know why we bother.... they should really just name her the idol and then do the rest of the show for runner up so she can start her career already.

Andrew seemed like he was trying to do a Harry Connick, Jr crooner version of Hound Dog... it was a little weird... if he had pushed it a little more, it might have worked.

I think hell has frozen over because I've now enjoyed Tim for two weeks in a row... what is happening? The guitar work was really good and interesting with a nice clean vocal.

Lee was just fun... dark horse in the running once again (and without any weird pipers this week!)

Aaron was boring and, I agree with Simon, seeming very old in that teeny tiny 12 year old body of his (how old is he again?)

Siobhan sounded VERY Linda Ronstadt... very 70s... very not good tonight.

Mike's song was overshadowed in my mind by Cartman from Southpark singing "In the ghetto..." but it was still a good performance.

As far as Katie's question.... THIS is what we want you to do! Loved it!

Casey just gave another Bob Seger performance... but a very generic one. After last week it was disappointing, but it was still good.

Bottom 3: Andrew, Aaron, Siobhan

I really don't care at this point which of them goes home because all three of them are getting old to me... but I'm going to bet on Aaron and Siobhan. I honestly think Andrew still has a huge fan base of people who are waiting for him to do Straight Up again.

Oh, and PLEASE don't wish Aaron to ever show up on Glee... it would ruin my hour of joy each week.

I think the real reason I keep watching is to compare notes with you... it's so much fun! Even if we are comparing notes on a trainwreck.

Great talking with you again, Mary!
Notes - I share your obsession with A.L. Looking at him last night, I thought he would make a great model for a statue or painting of a modern Dionysius - he looks a little godlike (in the ancient Greek sense, definitely not the modern Christian). It's something really talented gays (and lesbians - cf KD Lang) can project - probably because they're not constrained by the standard, all-too-familiar, over-done gender roles. (I was at a dinner once where everyone was gay except me and another woman - mother of one of the gay men - and they were laughing and talking about how straight people wonder what gay people do when they hook up, and they laughingly agreed that they did *Anything They Wanted* ... which applies to non-sex too... Thus art and music ...) (Tho I know some boring, 'straight' gay people too, of course.)

Anyway, back to business.

Yeah, poor AL couldn't enliven this lot...well, except Crystal, who does pretty well on her own.

Andrew Garcia - nice voice, but presentation...like, if you're going to wander around the stage, and beyond, go for a cordless mike. That was just bizarre... Plus, up the tempo a bit, bud. Houn' dog should be loud and raunchy...

I went to the bathroom when Tim Urban was on. I don't think I missed anything. Lee was reasonably okay (I'm waiting for the cold chills - nobody is delivering this year). Aaron, aargh. Siobhan has possibilities, but she has yet to really get it together (or let it loose...) I guess Michael and his ghetto was pretty good. (I find it a slightly cringe-making song, but that's me.) (Maybe left over from when Elvis, who got rich and popular ripping off black music, threw out this little sop...) Katie tried, but Katie didn't did. Casey sang Lawdy? Goodness, I must have gone to the bathroom again, cuz I have no memory of it... (Just as well...)

I think watching Idol this year is like slowing down to see the car wreck, but there really isn't one, just some confused souls standing around at the side of the road looking at their flat tire...

But then, after Adam, maybe Idol has just had it...
What is it with this Adam Lambert obsession? Guy gives me the creeps. I so hope Aaron goes back to hanging outside middle schools looking for playmates. Twit makes me crazy.
Unfortunately I missed Crystal and Lee. They had to be better than what I did see (I tuned in half way through Aaron)

When did Katie become mini-Kara? Yuck. Sibhoan was disappointing too. I get what she's trying to say, that she's a chameleon. And like Adam she's as much (maybe more) of an actor than a singer. But she doesn't have Adam's schtick (gay guy doing cock rock.) We always new what we he was going to return to. Sibhoan just has the scream.

Meanwhile Tim Urban seems to be settling nicely into his role as teen idol. But he's no Bieber.

Didn't Kelly Clarkson ever mentor. She mentored on Canadian Idol. They should bring her in too.

Or maybe the guys who put together the Karaoke catalogue that American Idol has been using for the last two years should mentor ! (this is why we're not getting any interesting contemporary songs anymore. You don't sell your Karaoke rights cheap, you don't get your song on AI anymore. But that's probably a post I need to write, not a comment.)

Hope you're right about Aaron. At some point Tim has got to win the tween vote.
I'm with you on almost everything again this week - except for the Casey thing. He is a one-note bar performer - a very good bar performer but that's about it. Everyone one of these guys is pretty much one note, though, except for Crystal, and perhaps Lee and Mike. Siobhan might have a chance of being interesting again, but I always feel like she's singing through a glass of water. Her voice is as lugubrious as she is. Adam did do his best to try to liven them up but I just don't know that they have it in them.

It's definitely time for Aaron and Andrew to go. And I think you might be right that Siobhan is in danger. And this might be the first week that I will not be amazed to see Tim stay. I have to agree with the judges that he is the only one who seems to be getting significantly better - but was there anywhere else to go?

Great recap, Mary! Can't wait to see Adam perform tomorrow.
Well, I agree with almost all of your critiques, except for one. Tim's performance of "Can't Help Falling In Love" was absolutely hideous. If this is what's passing as a "great performance," than the bar has been set to an all-time low.

The best performance of the night was Crystal's. No surprise there. That girl is just a natural and no one can take away her God-given talent. Everyone else paled in comparison. It was truly the worst performance episode in the entire nine-year-run of the show.

Adam Lambert's advice was right on the money. He was the bright spot in the show. He knew exactly what these kids needed, and unfortunately, no on seemed to take his advice.

If I were voting (and I'm not), Andrew and Tim would get the boot. That said, with the uncertainty of how the tweens and young teens will vote this week, who will stay and who will go, is anybody's guess. I think the only person that will most lkely be leaving is Andrew. But even then, who knows. He got more votes than Mike last week and Mike actually has a voice. Granted, his performance of "In The Ghetto" was technically sung well, but there wasn't any connection to the lyric and was completely forgettable.

I'm hoping Siobhan doesn't get voted off. It may not have been her best performance, but that girl can SING! Unfortunately, the tweens don't seem to understand that.

All 'n all, despite what happens, four of these kids will end up with careers as singers. They are Crystal, Mike, Casey and Siobhan. As for the others, who knows? I do think that Aaron and Katie have future potential considering they're only 16 and 17, respectively.

I'll be tuning in tonight to watch the madness unfold. If Tim stays and Crystal, Mike or Siobhan get the boot, I think I can safely say that the show will hit an all-time low and will have a hard time being taken seriously from then on.
You know how I feel about Adam! And this just made me pee a little - "Meanwhile Tim Urban seems to be settling nicely into his role as teen idol. But he's no Bieber." ~ Juliet Waters

hahahahahahahaha~
I DVR'd and will fastforward to the Adam parts. :)
It is sad for me that all I read on OS anymore are your weekly AI recaps.

That said, these contestants are just horrible. When we find ourselves saying that Tim Urban was good---well....

This is a season where the "best" of the lot would be more properly classified as "okay." And that being said, they can all sing a whole bunch better than me (except maybe Tim Urban) so who am I to judge?

Can't wait to see you, Mary. Your visit is the only light at the end of this tunnel.
Mary, you do so well with such lame material! This was funny. Aaron as Linus is a hoot. I agreed with Simon that his performance felt like a high school play--way too staged. Siobhan was just weird, and I'm a fan of hers. I actually liked Katie's performance and I sympathize with her feeling of being jerked around by the judges. "Be yourself!" "No, change it up!" I mean, how on earth do they know what to do?

Anyway, I mostly agree with everything you say here except for Tim Urban. I thought he sucked royally, no matter how you slice it. But I haven't watched the show religiously so I'm not as tuned in as you are to the increasingly low bar being set. :)

BTW, I love, love, love this song from Brigadoon by Adam Lambert. Come to Me, Bend to Me. He does it gorgeously--even better than the original, imo.
I keep watching because it's the one night my kids get to stay up late and we do it as a family...otherwise I'd be done with the whole show. Thank god you are out there to suffer through with me! That said, I do like Lee. My kids are huge fans of Big Mike. They've loved him since the auditions.
Can't say enough about what Crystal did with that song.
It's just fun to see the latest and the greatest make their moves on the world stage. I would like to see Adam and Justin Bieber do a song together. Now that would be really Hot!
Susanne: Well, Michael was safe last week, but this week, who knows? Those fickle tween texters might save Aaron who should have never qualified for this show at any level.

Roger: Well then, glad to see that your suffering only involved reading this!

Intenson: Enjoyed talking to you last night as well. It was a tough show and I had a very tough time writing this thing up. I love your recap and hope you are still way ahead in your fantasy Idol play. Oh, and my apologies about the Glee comment...although I did watch a little of that show...I love musicals, but I couldn't take it--I was still traumatized from listening to Tim and Aaron!

Myriad: As always, I look forward to your AI comments. Glad you share my love of Adam and your paragraph about it was spot on. He is the real deal and did an excellent job last night. Loved your thoughts on everyone else. And this line, " I think watching Idol this year is like slowing down to see the car wreck, but there really isn't one, just some confused souls standing around at the side of the road looking at their flat tire..." was sheer brilliance. Thank you!

Gwool: Hmmmmm....you should never tell a psychotherapist you find a gay man creepy...could open up a whole can of worms! I agree with you about Aaron, though.

Juliet: You missed the two performers who were actually worth hearing! And yes, Katie has become mini-Kara which makes it doubly annoying. Siobhan was so strange and her response to the judges even stranger. Yes, Tim is no Justin Bieber, although I must tell you that that kid really creeps me out. He just seems like such a sponge for acting like he thinks a teen idol is supposed to act like. I saw him on SNL and got even more creeped out. I know he's Canadian and all, BUT....

Kelly Clarkson must not have mentored...she's performed, but I checked about 10 other AI blogs and we were all saying the same thing...Adam Lambert is the first contestant to receive this honor.

My biggest fear continues to be the tween voter. Everyone seems to think that Crystal is a shoe in. How quickly we forget last year's results.

Thanks as always for your great AI comments!

knightwriter: I think I'm at the point with these performers that honestly, I don't really think a one of them is anything to write home about. Yes, I said it! I do love Crystal for a number of reasons, but anyone who thinks she is a shoe in is sadly mistaken. Tim, in reality, completely and totally sucks. I tried to think of a more clever way to say this, but I can see from the comments, that some thought I thought he did well. No way! He stayed on tune and didn't fall off. That's as good as it gets with him. Thanks so much for your comment.

Steven: So happy you had the time to come along and comment. Again, I think my sarcasm wasn't sarcastic or obvious enough, because I didn't care for Tim's performance at all. It felt like having a kid who competes in ice skating, falls constantly and makes you a wreck as a parent. Then the kid performs once and doesn't fall and everyone is excited. That's what it feels like with Tim, who has absolutely no business being any part of this competition as far as I'm concerned.

I agree that it was the worst show in its 9 year history. And I so tried to not feel this way. I did an attitude check before the show because I've become so hardened and cynical (this stared at the finale show in Los Angeles when Adam Lambert lost), I tried to shake that off. But the more the show went on, the more cynical I got. And I had to admit, THIS SUCKS.

I agree about Adam...he was truly the best mentor the show has had. So naturally talented, full of life and trying so hard to get these unconscious artists to wake up.

I agree...if Mike or Siobhan get the boot (which is a realistic possibility), the show will be at an ever lower bottom than I thought it could get too. But again, I have no confidence in the tween voter. Where are their parents???? These kids need to have their phones taken away before they become permanent fixtures. I fear it's too late for that as well. Thanks for the great comment...it's a pleasure to have someone that is such a music expert take the time.
“Grab it Aaron! Get aggressive with it!”
Adam was talking about the song, right?
I watched AI for the first time last night and all I could think of is how can Mary suck this stone for one sentence much less an article. HOW?!!! Mary, you did it again! And, personally, an accident is far more interesting. This show is a 50 car and semi's wreck that is as interesting to look at as ants crossing a hiking trail. And you did a whole bunch of these that I treasure in you: "Andrew was also a little too preoccupied with his microphone, dragging it along like a reluctant lover." Mary-nificent!!!!! You are still my Mary-Can-I-Dull! Rated for writing and perseverance!!!
Bieber would be creepier if he didn't have such a great sense of humor. If you haven't checked out his skits on Funny or Die you must. Yesterday I posted a link on Knightwriter's DWTW recap of the Justin Bieber screensaver. You're getting Bieber vs. OMG Cat
I've about given up altogether on this season - but I love reading your recaps, Mary. You write them so well.
Thanks for the kudos, Mary. I'm loving your wrap-up reports and in-depth evaluations. I've been watching "American Idol" since its inception and used to have great insight into the successes and the misses of the contestants. I knew Kelly was a shoo-in from the first time I heard her. She just had/has that natural ability to transform a pop song into something more than fluff.

I look forward to reading more of your reviews and will be gladly contributing my point of view along with all of your other faithful followers.

Your "ears" seem to hear the same tune as mine. It's refreshing to read your blogs. Thanks! :-)
I love that you write these. It's nice to not have to watch it, but also nice to know what the heck people are talking about and be able to follow lunch room conversations without thinking "huh?"
I know I sent this to you last night, but I guess I didn't post it: I really think Siobhan's "I can't categorize myself" speech is going to do for her exactly what the "God has plans for me" speech did for the other kid... nothing... except maybe earn her the boot.
As much as the screaming was getting old, it was certainly better than what she's been doing the past couple of weeks.
I have a stepmother support group shortly but will be back after I watch DVR of results tonight...loving all these comments...
Lambert gave excellent advice. I was pleasantly surprised.
Whut? No "Hound Dog?"

Huh? Casey James sings?

Whut you talkin bout! Ellen's married...duh!

Got my brows done and hair layered last night. No watchie.

Rated for being an awesome sister and puttin up with me.

Sorry I missed your call today.

Could there be any less talent this season?

Oh yeah, and Lost was on last night.

Did I mention? Rated for "Glambert?"
I don't know what Joan is talkin about...what I'd give to watch ants crossing a hiking trail. Don't know who she thinks she is... ;)
Mary thanks for taking the time once again to do an entertaining recap.

For me, the biggest disappointment has been Siobhan. She has a great natural voice, but with little idea of what to do with it. She doesn't have much musical sense, and her arrangements vary between the mediocre and the weird.

I find Crystal and Michael to be the best overall. Lee has potential, but has been inconsistent. I like Casey James, but I think he's more of a guitarist than a singer. All the rest of them -- forget about it.
I felt utter apathy at the results tonight, then went directly to YouTube to remember what Idol used to be. Adam Lambert doing Tracks of My Tears last year. Phenomenal (hope the link works!). Thanks for your service to humanity, Mary. Much appreciated! :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XpISZJsRBU
Live blogging by myself MST watching my DVR: Okay, Andrew is gone BUT Aaron is safe...a travesty because this means that someone way more talented is going home...wait, except maybe Turban could be gone. This could restore a little bit of faith in the show...a little mind you, but a little. But those damn tweens...they're the ones keeping Aaron in and it sucks.
i am wondering how the next season would be with simon gone... still waiting for ellen to steal the show
Yes.... fellow Adam fan, BEST IDOL EVERRRRRRR.Sioban annoys the hell out of me and when she compared herself to Adam??? Puhleeeeese........I wanted Casey to do love me tender too,he would have been fantastic. My fav of the night besides Krystal who always stands alone,or beside Casey, was Tim!!!! What the hell?? that vocal arrangment and singing was killer!!! I still can't get over it and time has passed since this post and that annoying Katie was FINALLY voted off.I could go on..............
irritated: Adam was the best part of the whole show!

m.a.h.: Yes, it's a truly a sad day when the only time you come to OS is to read this drivel of a post. But, selfishly speaking, I'm so glad you do! And yes, the standards have been lowered when the judges are swooning over Tim. But they have to do what they have to do, I suppose. I can't wait to see you! Believe me, it's the one thing that's keeping me hanging in there!

Lainey: I guess my dry wit didn't come off too well, because I thought Tim Urban sucked as well (see above comment). I listened to your Brigadoon youtube post of Adam. Being a complete and total sucker for musicals (you do not want to know how many times I saw "Rent" on Broadway), I loved it! His voice is utter perfect. Thanks for the link.

mamoore: I always love reading your comment about who you and your family are rooting for. Lee is very good but I don't find him very charismatic. Who can't love Big Mike and he seems safe enough for now. So glad you're hanging in there!

Kathy: You are not alone in your feelings for Crystal or the way she sang that song.

Elisa: I agree about Crystal but I have no faith in the voting system that seems overrun with tween texters. Remember last year...the best contestant did not win.

Algis Kemezys: Adam and Bieber? Hmmmmm.....it would be very interesting, to say the least :)

Chuck: Adam was talking about the song? What do you think???

Joan: I loved this, "And, personally, an accident is far more interesting. This show is a 50 car and semi's wreck that is as interesting to look at as ants crossing a hiking trail." You're funny...must have gotten it from me. Ha! Thanks again for hanging in there with me.

Juliet: Okay, I just checked out that "Bieber vs. OMG Cat" and it creeped me out even more!!!

trilogy: Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoy.

Steven: Actually looking forward to tonight's show (I'm an eternal optimist) and hearing your take on it tomorrow.

hyblaean-Julie: So happy I'm helping you out in the lunch room!

Inteson: Well, now you know that Katie is gone and Siobhan staying and hoping she takes that gorgeous voice of hers and hits it out of the ball part tonight. Talk to you soon!

sweetfeet: Lambert was amazing and the best mentor I've seen so far.

JC: Hey, at least you rated for Glambert!

mishima666: I agree with you. I think Siobhan has the most amazing voice but she doesn't seem to be getting it or finding her way in this competition. I always enjoy reading your comment recaps.

Deborah: Your link did work and I loved the way he sang that song! Thanks so much for that. Adam showed us what American Idol is supposed to be about. Everyone else pales in comparison. Will be continuing the apathy tonight...although I'm always hopeful. Thanks for acknowledging my important contribution to mankind :)

hermionedwitch: I think you may have to wait all season for Ellen to steal the show. It doesn't help that she seems to know nothing about music.

diary of a food addict: Yes, Adam was the best Idol ever...at least for me with Jennifer Hudson as a close second. And I'm glad Katie is gone...it was creeping me out that she had this mature sultry voice trapped in the body of a teenager. She should come back in a couple of years.
