SYNDICATED COLUMN: The Pravda-ization of the News
Ted Rall
"No Context, But Propaganda Is Amusing
Try as they may to make the news as boring as possible, U.S. media outlets keep churning out hilarious “news” stories. Hardly a day passes without the release of some piece whose content is so ridiculous, its tone so absurdly credulous, that it makes us feel as if we live in a bizarre reincarnation of the propaganda-soaked Soviet Union.
Remember “Baghdad Bob”? Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, Iraq’s information minister during the 2003 U.S. invasion, kept denying reality, insisting that Saddam’s regime was winning even as attacking tanks appeared in the background of his camera shots. I had a Baghdad Bob flashback moment earlier this week while listening to NPR’s afternoon news program “All Things Considered.”
“President Obama toured the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington today joined by Holocaust survivor, author and Nobel Laureate, Elie Wiesel. Mr. Obama said the U.S. must never again allow such atrocities to take place,” said Melissa Block."
Whaaaaa…?"
SNIP
"The implication is that Obama cares about protecting innocent people from state-run mass murder. That the U.S. has moral standing. But…but…
The U.S. is currently the world’s leading perpetrator of atrocities!
American wars against Afghanistan and Iraq have slaughtered at least two million people and injured many millions more. The U.S. maintains a network of “black site” secret prisons and concentration camps around the world. President Obama claims the right to assassinate anyone, including U.S. citizens, anywhere in the world, without having to explain himself to a court. We’re the #1 arms dealer on the planet. And, as a British newspaper has learned, the military maintains dozens of secret drone bases here inside the U.S., obviously for future use against the enemies of our increasingly oppressive police state."
SNIP
"The Obama Administration isn’t killing as many people as were killed during the Holocaust—but that’s not saying much. Does NPR think we’ve forgotten that the hands of our political leaders are dripping with blood? Or is NPR trying to compete with Comedy Central?"SNIP
"When innocents suffer. Well, not all innocents, right, Mr. President? Like, we’re not supposed to lose sleep over the thousands of detainees—including children—in U.S. concentration camps at Guantánamo, Bagram, Diego Garcia, Thailand, and Bulgaria. All of who are, under U.S. law, innocent of any crime (because they’ve never been charged, much less convicted, in court)."
SNIP
"It’s bad enough to be fed propaganda. But at least make an effort when you lie. This crap is insulting."

Ex-CIA Interrogator: Obama's War on Terror Is Less Ethical Than Bush's
The former head of the CIA's Clandestine Service Jose Rodriguez says President Obama is waging the nation's war against radical Islam in a far more brutal manner than his predecessor President George W. Bush.

Speaking of Nazi’s they had my favorite show of all time on the history channel Saturday night, interesting little parallel how in the second part, the Fall, we are told how the Nazi’s carried on in Europe like they knew there was no tomorrow right before the ally’s hit the beach's of France.
In one of our few contentious conversations, long ago, You reminded me of the phrase: Follow the Money." How I could have forgotten that is beyond me.
Since then, I avidly follow the markets and avoid the white noise of the punditocracy. obama has a limited time to deliver more loot to the big boyz or they'll abandon him as if he were the Titanic.
The next two unemployment reports and the next GDP report will tell one all that is necessary to know.
This blog post is intended only as a reminder as to who this cretin in the White House REALLY IS. If one can't believe in the consistent integrity of Ted Rall, and the principle torturer, himself, who does one turn to for the truth?
Thanks for the visit, Jack.
Nice work. / r
Was that intentional? I've seen the diverse talents You possess ( I knew Your prose to be superlative, long ago), especially in some of Your recent poetry.
Speaking of wolves, I, recently, saw "The Grey" with Liam Neeson. The snarling blood-thirsty wolf pack made me think of american politics.
Is that strange (or NOT so strange)?
Thanks for coming by, my highly esteemed friend.
As for what I see of him, is increasing surveillance from the current police state, increasing the use of drones in targeted assassinations, increasing the use of puppet governments around this world like Harmid Karzai of Afghanistan, and increasing the involvement of the US military in the endless wars.
Over 60% of the displaced refugees on this planet are a direct result of American military action. count the internally displaced and the number goes up.
Never mind the current, long lasting ongoing worldwide depression and the fake show that is the thing called Wall Street.
A giant prostitute held high and worshiped like no other.
A a bunch of lying dogs we call media, doing the bidding of the hidden masters like the Koch brothers and Murdoch family.
Maybe the round up will start in the morning. The armored men in black will raise those shields high and carry extra pepper spray and taxer guns.
May 1 is tomorrow. Let us see who shows what.
Many pithy aspects to Your comment, too many for me to address individually, so I'll simply thank You for the visit and ask that You read the PM momentarily to come.
It seems apparent to me that it IS beyond the comprehension of the citizens of the nation of my birth.
Why else would they prove Einstein's definition of insanity by doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results?
It's always a special honor to have You come and visit, and I do thank You deeply.
"in the kingdom of the blind the one eyed man is king". or in this case an editorial cartoonist with a good memory, sense of history & irony, & outrage, & hypocrisy.
as for the assertion about the british newspaper uncovering secret drone bases in the US-- I think I missed that one although I tend to be up on this stuff. does anyone have a referene for that? not saying I disbelieve it. there is more commotion about drones these days in the domestic area but the public is still asleep about it.
Need I amend my comment that I have never voted for a war criminal to I have never voted for a war criminal or someone responsible for torture;
or maybe, just to keep it simple, shall we say: obama should be running FROM the Hague, not FOR office.
Thanks, as always for stopping by. I really value Your loyalty.
Yes, Libby, "they" ARE accessories to murder; the operable word being "THEY."
Silence IS complicity; not a word I hear casually thrown about to describe You (me or our other "fellow travelers."
As I cautioned You on Your blog, sometimes You are just too restrained; "sociopathic?" Can't we at least add maniacal to that?
As always, my honor to have You visit.
I, already, said, and so it goes, so now You are OFFICIALLY my Sister.
Yes, I may be momentarily light-hearted, but in truth it terrifies me, too (even so many miles distant).
Thanks for the visit.
