For this week’s batch of films that I review in KC Active, I send my love to The Princess and the Frog for demonstrating that 2D animation is a step down in technology but not entertainment. The Private Lives of Pippa Lee has a terrific cast and some switches in tone that are downright jarring.
Joe Berlinger’s Crude, a look at the “Amazon Chernobyl” will definitely pull you in to the struggle of 30,000 Ecuadorians to win a lawsuit against Chevron for decades of pollution in their backyards. It’s not every day that a subtitled documentary about pollution the Amazon can fill a viewer with such outrage. On DVD, I found a couple of winners. Anvil: The Story of Anvil is a documentary about a Canadian band that missed fame and fortune that’s far more captivating that films about successful bands. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince allows Harry and his classmates to grow up, with remarkably enjoyable results.NOTE: This passage is cross-posted on www.stateoftheline.com.
