Hot-ASH red, stormy violet, peasouper green
Strange
Frightening this smoldering, bruised sky
I cannot fly on
I must get home to the nest
To my little ones --
* * * *
Tall, grey gums tremble
Eucalypt leaves quiver
Fear courses usually strong, trusted skeletons
Panic
Terror
Consuming all around me
Swallowing me
I must flee, I’ve got to protect my joey
But where? Where can I go?
These normally proud eucalypts are my sanctuary
There’s nowhere else to turn --
* * * *
I have felt the wrath of Mother Ocean before
But this -- this transcends even her
Utterly cold, disturbing fury
Lashing, pummelling, twisting
Rage
Growing evermore, viciously intense
I can take no more
There is no way to break free
I, the Great White Whale, am beaten --
* * * *
Wild, unhinged winds lash my skin
As my eyes turn skyward I see the boiling, fuming cauldron
Below me a stomach-churning rumble rises upwards, through me
A roar, that for a moment, seemed so far away
Now pounds my ears, deafening, unbearable
I can’t think! I must think!
Think!
What do I do?
God, my children! Please? I must be with them!
God, help me!
Oh God.
There is no time --
Forgive me ....

J D Smith and I challenge each other from time to time at poetry and it's always so much fun when others join in. I'm so glad many of you did!
If you'd like to join in on this one too, please see J D Smith - IP Challenge # 10

Do you HAVE to excel every single time I challenge you??/
Do you EVER fail???
This is shockingly good, and thought provoking...and I caught the second avatar name...not just the first.
Crafty you are.
I am posting mine now! Wish me well...you have set the bar so damned high!
Thanks for the encouragement, JD. And I wish you well ... always.
Also : we had/maybe still have a blogger here called The Great White. He was a poet.
Lovely, Kate ( at least, as "lovely" as things can be, given the topic. )
I couldn't help noticing JD hasn't put up yet. ;-)
JD, has posted now. Please go read.
Thank you. Hope all is well down the road tonight.

It's lovely to see you again. Best wishes to you, dear Scylla.
With those leaves shaped like feathers, some day the eucalyptus trees will fly away in the night. It could happen (maybe that's my end of days poem).
And actually it is J D Smith who is the source of this challenge. There's a link, just up there, to his post. It has all the ins and outs of this particular challenge. See it? Yep, up there!
Also, I love the phrase "trusted skeletons".
trilogy, This was my second attempt ...the first I wrote for the challenge just didn't cut it. I'll admit to struggling with getting this one done too. If it hadn't have been a challenge that I was particularly called on, I would have let it slide but I'm glad I've made it over the hurdle albeit I think I clipped it a little on the way over. Thanks for being here, tril. : )
LL2, I ... I freaked YOU out!!!! LOL!!!! YOU wrote of ZOMBIES!!!
I am not up to even thinking about the end of time
I will read them, I am sure it will be fun to see what is written.
