Lost in The Tower

We lagged behind.
We were now officially those silly lost pain-in-the-bum American women who can’t follow simple instructions to stay with a group. But in our defense, we couldn’t help but slowly soak in the historically charged atmosphere that permeat… Read full post »
Humans in Hospitals: What Is Behind the Curtain?

The door flew open too quickly to squeak out its horror movie sound-effect hinge creak. I had no warning; no time to gently derail, to calmly negotiate or even to freak the hell out about what was coming next. I sat up… Read full post »
I'm a Nice Lady
Scene from the motor vehicle tag agency where I just spent
an hour of life I'll never get back:
I must look like a "nice lady." This kind of thing happens so
often, I feel like there is a sign on my face saying "Park your

“You’re an each, and quite my odd, but you’ve filled that hole with sunshine, days at the beach watching it rise, and red faced smeared with Noxzema, it’s nice to have a friend like you, looking forward to our meeting, you’re an each but so am I, I’m glad our… Read full post »
Dad and the Purple Schwinn
Dr. Dad passed away December 6th, 2012 from Alzheimer's. He lived, and lived well, 91 years. I'll be reading this story aloud at his life celebration services in Vero Beach on January 26th. I miss you daddy.
Mr. Sadistic Public School Bus Driver
They hate to miss the bus. It means I get to hold my kids hostage in the car for 20 minutes on the way to school and grill them about grades, their social lives, their grooming and many more annoying topics. Missing the bus means I get to interrogate, and … Read full post »
Dad Creates a Stir

Dad always wanted me to be a boy.
The day I was born, my dad, by virtue of being a resident doctor at Holy Cross Hospital, was permitted to hang out with mom while she labored to bring me into the world. Dad had privileges, unlike all the other/… Read full post »

How soldiers write letters in the dark.
Who knew that a letter in the mail written carefully and stylishly by hand from a young soldier stationed in Korea would be such an event? Reflexively, we handle the envelope delicately as though it would disappear in a puff of smoke./

"Say 33" Reverse Engineered: A Social Media Experiment
Ever wondered what the people you befriend on the internet perceive about you without ever having met you in person?
The "Say 33" meme has been floating around so, since I can't leave well enough alone, I took a liberty by turning it upside down. Instead of answering all the

What The Arachnid Did

What The Arachnid Did
A slim fiber was tapping my forearm as I tried to bridge the gap between falling and actually being asleep. It was pitch black in my room so I couldn’t see exactly what it was. It could be my hair, which is long enough to drape down to where my forearm/… Read full post »

Goodnight Booby Boy, Wherever You Are (My 1st Post 8/24/09)

No corner of Florida is immune from my presence lately being the chief chauffeur for my kids.
We see some great stuff travelling around, most particularly is the ritual of spotting a certain young boy every morning on the short hop to school. We have… Read full post »
Of Wind and Rain and Hurricanes
How did they do it without losing their marbles?
I think of Victorian women in the tropics. Like here in Florida. I've seen the photos.
They were appropriately trussed up in corsets and petticoats, strolling demurely in the park, hankies in hand to sop up the “glow” on thei… Read full post »
