No-Park Slope

Rate: 3 Flag

Brooklyn's Park Slope was ablaze last week with yellow tow-away signs proclaiming that a score of blocks were off-limits to parking because the cable series "Boardwalk Empire," "Louie" and a movie called "Sleep Walk With Me" would be filming at the same time.

 Car owners' prayer on these leafy streets

Centers not on kids or balance sheets

But on television- and movie-makers

Who invade the nabe as parking-spot takers.

Increasing residents' usual agony

Of finding a legal spot--there aren't any.

"Don't come to us," they tearfully plead;

"A New York sound stage is what you need
Or return to Hollywood, you aces,

Where there's no shortage of shooting spaces."

Your poetry made me smile. My advice is to embrace the chaos. :)

I have so many happy memories of Park Slope, where my grandparents lived for more than 50 years.

They had more than fair share of film crews to contend with too--even those who used their brownstone to film scenes for a movie and for two television shows.
My daughter lived in Brooklyn for a couple of years. She didn't have a car, but I remember when they lost their sidewalk and spaces to Sesame Street.
I think it's exciting, but then, I don't have to worry about parking, do I? Sesame St.? How cool is that???
