Now may be the time to start sending a message to Washington, D.C. To start spreading the word, in advance of the 2012 election.
We’re a year away. That should be just about the right amount of time to get the message started.
The message that Americans are fed up with the way things are going.
And here’s how we send it: We find the names of the congressman/woman from our Congressional District and the name of the U.S. Senators up for election from our state. And we start spreading the word: we’re voting against those people, for no other reason than to send a message to Washington.
I live in central Missouri, and I’ve found I live in Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler’s district. Any time the subject comes up in conversation, I’m going to mention that I’m voting against her for one reason, and one reason only – to send a message to Washington that I’ve had enough.
I’ll be doing the same for Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, who’s up for election in 2012. One is a Republican, the other a Democrat. It doesn’t matter, I’m sending a message.
And I’m going to vote against every other incumbent running for federal office. That’s right: him too.
If it turns out his opponent is missing a chromosome, I’ll still vote against him.
And I think it would be deeply cool if other people felt the way I do. And they'll help spread the word: we’ve had enough.
- · We’ve had enough of playing to win, instead of playing for progress and the common good.
- · We’ve had enough bought-and-paid for government that’s not being run in our best interests.
- · We’ve had enough of ignoring tax breaks, subsidies and loopholes that allow hugely profitable corporations to get away with paying no taxes while they do away with jobs and medical assistance.
- · We’ve had enough of obstructionism, of anti-ism, demagogues and bombasts.
- · We’ve had enough of the men and women holding elective office in Washington, D.C.
What a message it would be to unseat a sitting president, a third of the Senate and all of the House, and to let it be known, well in advance of the election, why it’s happening.
Yeah, if it were to happen, we’d be kicking some good people out of Washington. And there’s a chance we’d be replacing them with some bad eggs. But at this point, I’m ready to take my chances.
‘Cause I’ve had enough.
Have you had enough? Want to help?
OK: Spread the word. Don’t be a schmuck about it. But when politics or elections comes up in a conversation, speak up. Tell people you’ve had enough, and you’re sending a message to Washington. You’re voting against all incumbents running for federal office in 2012.
Take three minutes of the time you’re spending online right now, and go to Google.com. In the search area, type yourcity yourstate congressman senators. If you live in Anamosa, Iowa, type: Anamosa Iowa congressman senators. One of the first links you see should tell you who your elected officials are.
Remember those names. And in November, 2012, vote against ‘em.
