I hadn't considered that.
yeah sure i noticed that, but that ought not to dissuade us
in our eternal search for other humans to whose back
we are loyal. this is the mark of a fine person. loyalty.

as it happens, alas, in its infancy---loyalty---
it ends us up in a swamp of shit til we
learn.
it is all a learning experience..as we know ourselves better,
we get better at picking out girly girly girlfriends
or male friends
or galpals..

all is evolution..you cannot escape development of your wits
to be able to discern the damn fools from the damn angels.

it hits hard, an angel, in your life. a human one. he/she shines
you to heaven and back, all in your heart, where you keep it.
I always try to stand behind my work. But only in a large room.
That is sad. So sad. Sorry.
wow.. thats food for thought.
HUGGGGGGGGGGG
Those closest to the fire get burned first......
.
Not always, but when it happens, it sucks. R
Or you could just think that you are meant to hold them up. One can think several ways with this one.
It can be argued that, in terms of a literary device, the tendency to use the phrase “I’ve got your back” is almost always the first clue to the reader that that character cannot be trusted. It so often happens, in fiction (and where does fiction draw its themes?) that it is usually the character that will not admit to being in support of the hero, who comes to the hero’s rescue.

Why, do you suppose, that is such an over-used, theme?
I never really thought about it till now...Thanks!

P45 - glad to hear it because it's generally a lesson learned the hard way. Thanks for reading.

JEm - this little angel of mine requires the patience of a saint. Which I do not have.

OES - easy for you to say. You big dogs are used to having someone else do the cleanup!

Ande - sad, annoying, frustrating. Disappointing, most of all.

Julie - yes. Ouch.

Linda, your hug is quite welcome. Thank you.

Sky - bingo.

Jane - I have no idea what you could possibly mean ;). I thought it might resonate on several levels.

Thoth - indeed it does.

Erica - thank you!

Mary - that's what you think you are in for but right now the rest of it seems to be part & parcel of the deal.

DH - it's probably overused because there seem to be only 10 plots in the world! Or - pain drives some spectacular writing and being burned by the one who was supposed to support you, or being crapped on by those one would support seem to be universal sources of pain. Because we're all messy and imperfect and do the wrong thing or the right thing at the wrong time or some other ridiculous thing that seemed like a good idea at the time but really, on further reflection, was mean or boneheaded. Knowing all this about ourselves and our fellow humans doesn't make it feel any better in the moment, but does at least allow us to say "you were a big dumb doody head, but I love you anyway."

Algis - peace is always good. Thanks.
true true but the having of the back is imperative .
it is a stage we go through..
then we find the someone who has OUR back,
simultaneously with havig THEIR back,
and all is lovey dovey. I aint kidding.it is true.
Philosopher Elf King - I never doubt the deep truth of what you say.
Good observation

You should take over one sentence Sundays
You always hurt the one you love, the one who's covering you as you make your way through incoming gunfire.
What's a little shit every now and then?

You learn the value of soap and water.
hey keri i aint no elf! i stand a respectable five foot nine
in my bare feet, which get cold easily.
i have bountiful hair.
i am all of one hundred and forty pounds!
elf.
hm.

loyalty is what it is all about.
to what, though?
a person, who is gonna disappoint you at times?
let's say 'no'..

an idea , perhaps, then?
it better be a good one.
i am looking for things to be loyal to.
i love loyalty.
maybe i shoulda been a puppy dawg, i dunno.

loyalty! huh. maybe woodrow wilson
(remember him? professor prez?)
said it best..

"Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice."
Woodrow Wilson, Address on American Spirit...

i am loyal to dead peoples' quotes, for one thing!
In my business , when people say they're right behind you, it means they are using you as a human shield. You usually figure it out when the first bullets start to hit.
I hav noticed this sometimes. Fortunately they can also turn around and give you a hug.
I've also noticed some people like being shat(?!) on.
OMG

It's far more dangerous to stand behind a vegetarian as well.

Shit Happened.
