In last week's SF focus group, there seemed a unanimous desire for more direct call-to-action messaging on the Open cover, directing users to . . . do something. It's a great point. And whether we actually use a slogan on the site or not, I thought it might be a good exercise to see what might make for a good one. What do you think?
An early version of the site used the tagline: "A Smart Home for Your Words," which has a soft, homespun feel to it. I'm very partial to the short directive of YouTube's "Broadcast Yourself(TM)." We'll be allowing users to publish stories, art, photos, video . . . just about anything. So what could capture that, and also suggest a great reader/viewer experience?
Suggestions -- or other great taglines you've noticed -- welcome below, through email or, of course, on your own blogs.

whoah...I guess pushing enter doesn't make breaks. Reformatted:
I like Open Season. Or even "It's always open season."
What about:
Get Open
Open your mind, not your mouth (get it? cause it's all type...?....)
Open Up at Open
Salon Sorry, I haven't had enough caffeine to be witty today...
Those two things got my attention too -- I think the format rules of comments should be very like the formatting at Letters. Skipping a line is ok, etc. etc. And if the commenter can't delete, (or can only delete for a few minutes? A very wise and humane compromise in some settings) , then the blog owner gets to delete. (inserting a tag....)
(So Dan, does Open in any way let you know I responded to you here?)
Kerry, no great ideas yet, but your question brings up more questions from me.
Is this an adjunct of capital-S Salon the journalistic space, with open contributions and expressions? If so, something meaning something like OpenSalon: where Salon opens the doors for the best of your ideas, visual expressions and stories. (Giving the sense that this is prestigious, only much less clunky than that!)
Or is it a lower-case salon itself, a place for open exchange of ideas with peers? OpenSalon: connect, express and open up.
And if it can be both, (I hope so), I still think we have to know which is first and foremost? I'd say the first approach is our strongest hand to play.
Even though "enter" puts a line break in when you are typing a comment it doesn't carry through to the post unless you enter the html tags. We might want to enable the people to delete & enter their own post as well.
Lets try this again. . .
Open Salon ~ feed your mind
Open Salon ~ recess for your mind
Open Salon ~ open your world
