Once again the Florida based “Florida Family Association” has used outright bigotry, to influence sponsors of TLC's reality show “ All-American Muslim”. They are closely associated with the American Family Association another bigoted so called “Christian” organization. The show which shows life among American Muslims in Dearborn Michigan, a city with a large Muslim population. It's purpose is to try and counter, bigotry such as that displayed by FFA.

Lowe's has caved in to pressure from them, and dropped it's sponsorship to the show. The North Carolina based chain, has made some apologies for their decision, but so far has not re-instuted it's sponsorship for the program.

The Florida Family Association, headed by David Caton is not shy to controversy. They have been responsible in the past, for Hillsborough County Florida, canceling Gay Pride festivities in Tampa. They are also responsible for trying to close down, a Gay Campground in rural Pasco County as, of which yours truly is both a member and resident. Amid all the brouhaha he caused at the time, Florida Sawmill is still operating. His beef with Sawmill was that “homosexuals” were engaging in unlawful activities ( sodomy and public nudity ) which are still crimes under Florida law. He tried to bring attention to the fact that this was a community of homosexuals, right in the middle of rural “family oriented” farms and businesses. His efforts failed miserably. The county realizing, that the campground, brings in money to the county, as well as sponsoring many charitable organizations within the county.

Caton himself, a “cured porn addict” has never hidden his personal agenda of hate and bigotry. Under the guise of protecting the American Family, he has relentlessly pushed boycotts of any business or organization that sponsors Gay Rights. Disney World, being one of the more high profile targets of his organization. He sponsored a boycott of Disney some years ago, because they allowed “Gay Disney” activities during Orlando Gay Pride.  Each year he tries something new to get Disney to cancel this event.

Their website is a cesspool of hate! His threats are legal action, and intimidation. He has his members e'mail anyone he dislikes, to harass them.  He recently was behind the cancellation of Kodaks sponsorship of “Degrassi Hi” on Nickelodeon. They do not just single out the Gay Community. They have also attacked other groups as well. Their right wing agenda, covers many areas. They were even involved in the High Speed Rail controversy here in Florida, advocating against it. Caton has always cried about “persecution” of his group. Nothing has changed, now he is accusing Muslim groups of hacking his website. In the past he has accused the Gay Community of acts of negligence toward him and his group as well. I am sure, this post won't escape his scrutiny either. How dare, I personally attack him.

Don't let Lowe's cave in to this bigots threats. I am advocating that until Lowe's reverses it's decision, that everyone Boycott Lowe's! This sort of thing, can work both ways. Don't let bigotry control this country! California Senator Ted Lieu as well, is looking into whether Lowe's has broken any anti-discriminating laws in their decision. It's time to stand up to bigotry and hate, and tell David Caton that organizations like his, that try to divide our country and people, are not welcome in America!
