Just Something I Needed to Write
I consider myself a very fortunate person. I even call myself “lucky”. I am not terribly optimistic, but hell, I certainly can’t complain. This was the original impetus for this post, but I find I cannot go there without some background. It turns out that THI… Read full post »
Not Exactly Good News Sunday
For 3 weeks, I have been wracking my brain for Good News on Sunday.
Personally, it is all good for me, but I need to translate that to good for all.
I have a glimmer of hope ……
Some of my clients lost LOT of business in the early 2000’s to/… Read full post »
Freezing in Ft. Lauderdale REALLY (Update)
OK, so I know it's not literally freezing but observe the wind chill temperature below too. We actually have a "wind chill warning" in effect for heaven's sake. That high of 58 was last night just after midnight.
I also know most of you (except our US West Coasters, the &n… Read full post »
Mamma Mia Who Knew?
I finally watched the entire movie tonight – that’s right – the much maligned Mamma Mia movie. Who knew one could be so inspired by the epitome of schmaltz? I’m not even embarrassed to admit it – Mamma Mia the movie inspired me.
All I want in the entire world… Read full post »
What's next?
Every time I open a "new tab" in IE8, I get this screen:

It haunts me to no end. As if I know, dang it!
Everyone Is Trying to Write a Book
I hate to be cynical but ....It seems like ever since Julia and Julia (or whatever) the movie came out, there are tons of new blogs around here in the same sort of vein. "Write a witty blog and get a book deal". I read a lot of new posts by… Read full post »
"They use aborted fetus' to make artificial colors"
I'd thought I'd heard them all until I just heard this one. It's 100% true.
I think it bears upon more topical subjects because it vividly demonstrates how far ignorance and fundamentalism can take people. To me, it also bears upon the people like Michelle Bernard, who will fabricate outr… Read full post »
My 88 Year Old Aunt Lois
Today I visited my 88 year old Aunt Lois. I was named after her with my middle name, and oh how I hated telling my middle name when I was a kid. LOIS. Ugh!
I am her 50 year old niece, and I brought with me her 48 year old niece,… Read full post »
That's What I Want, How Do I Get It?
Yesterday as I was enjoying the pastoral serenity of the surroundings of the office where I sometimes go to work, I had a sudden and clear thought of "This is what I want" immediately followed by "So how do I get it?" (It's a quiet 2 acres of land in highly… Read full post »
Life's a Beach
I have a favorite thought that never fails to ground me when I am down, or sad, or lonely, or upset, or even slightly depressed. I guess I am some or all of those things this past month or so.
In the grand scheme of things - which to my way… Read full post »
Mad, Sad, Bad, and Glad
A late-night mind dump because I am all of the above and this is the best place to put it.
MAD - as in angry (I usually use the accurate term, angry, but it didn't ryhme). Mad because OS sucks lately. The ugliness and whininess pisses me off (this goes back… Read full post »
Just for a smile -
We've been watching these ducklings since they were itty bitty babies. There were 17 to start and 15 remain. Our driveway and front of the yard become a mini-lake during heavy rains (every day lately), and they play here frequently. They are at a gawky stage now.&n… Read full post »
If YOU Die, How Will I know?
So I am not a writer, and this is not a community, but I feel like I belong to a very special "other world" where I meet and greet and sometimes get to know people in my real life, but I always find people of of "my preferred ilk" here on… Read full post »
Sex With Your English Teacher (Or How NOT to Read an OS Post
I am going to admit something that I should not, but if I don't, it will haunt me forever.
I was reading along tonight and came to Chicago Guy’s post about “his first” and I skimmed the top.
We all do it, right? A brief scan, and a quick reading de/… Read full post »
This was originally a reply to Joan's post, but I decided to put it here too. This also covers comments in a couple of reviews of the show I read.
I don't understand the criticism of Bruce's halftime show that I am reading this morning. Bruce had 12 minutes to play… Read full post »
I Have Some Birds (and Palm trees and Flowers)
To my friends: A really quick post to let you know I am still here! I am still reading, rating, and commenting, and need something new in this spot. You all know I am not here as a writer - so here is my placeholder.
I have been following everyone's weather woes… Read full post »
Open Note to Newbies
I once had a habit of emailing promising new bloggers about a few tips to get noticed on OS. After mixed results, I quit offering unsolicited advice
BUT
I will still say THIS:
IF you are blogging here and hoping to become part of whatever this OS "community" is, there… Read full post »

It's a steady, absolutey gorgeous , perfect 79-80 F day here; day after boring day. Excitement reigns when the day is at 70 F and the night is at 60F.

101 Words without Imagination
I am reading everything, thumbing too.

Who said we’d have nothing to talk about after the election? You are all amazing.

Shown below are the current waiting times to cast a vote in S. Florida on the last day of early voting. The wait times have been growing all week. Most of these people are now waiting longer than I did to get into the Obama rally!

Yesterday, my sweetheart and I spent a total of five hours on our feet and waiting in line to first, cast our ballots, and second, to attend the Obama/Biden rally at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, FL, which you may have seen if you watched the last 3 minutes of… Read full post »
As a scientist, I don't hold much regard for anecdotal evidence, but my small, unscientific sampling of the undecided voters in my life has made me very happy so I'll go with it this time!
Over the past 3 days, I have had conversations with four previously undecided friends and family… Read full post »
Obama on Domestic Violence
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The one time when all people are supposed to remember this problem, and perhaps think about it. In my group, it is the month to get preachers to preach about the unacceptability of domestic violence. A lot won't though, because it… Read full post »
