Disclaimer: This is a mixed bag of guys. I can't explain why one person turns me on and another that looks almost the same doesn't. I also have a lot of older guys in my list (though my husband is 3 yrs younger than me). It's a mystery though I can say that a sense of humor , an accent or playing James Bond can tip the balance.
Daniel Craig: The contrast between his body and his lived in face is hard to resist. He's the only one on the list purely for aesthetic reasons. I noticed him first in Lara Croft Tomb Raider, thought he was a great pick for James Bond and just recently fell completely in lust with him during Flashbacks of a Fool (good movie with some serious thoughts about death and friendship wrapped in lots of Daniel nudity.)
Pierce Brosnan: I've had the hots for him since Remington Steele and he just gets better with age. I was seriously upset that he had to defer to Timothy Dalton the first time he was tapped for James Bond. He was a great Bond.
Sean Connery: I don't even know what to say here. It just seems obvious to me that he is incredibly sexy at any age. Part of it is the accent - no one has a better one. Despite the plaudits given to the 2 above, Connery is the definitive James Bond.

Hugh Jackman: What do I need to say? He's gorgeous, funny and has a great accent.
Jon Stewart: Adorable, outrageously funny and scary smart. I think he's sexy as hell AND I'd want to marry him if I didn't already have a fantastic guy.

Dwayne Johnson (AKA The Rock): I can't explain this pick. He just works for me. Maybe the (delusional) belief that I would always be safe. I don't know. He does have a fantastic body and an interesting face.
Steve Martin: Really funny, courageous, scary smart and yet down to earth. Another one who is sexy to me because he's marriage material. Or seems to be.
Brendan Fraser: This guy has it all. Great body, good looking, funny/goofy and smart. School Ties is the first time I saw him. Fantastic performance and he was such a cutie. He is too die for in the Mummy series.
I was going to try for 10 but this is as far as I could get. No one else rises to the same level as the guys above. I couldn't rank them because each one is uniquely sexy to me.

I've obviously thought about this way, way, way too much.
Which brings to mind Orlando Bloom in Lord of the Rings. That is the sexiest I've ever seen him. Not that he's not good-looking all of the time. hehe He didn't make the list because he's too young.
And, I just started reading everyone else picks and realized I forgot 2 guys but I'll let the post stand as is.
Dog Woman: Your man is truly sexy!
With this kind of nighttime fodder, I will sleep well, and deeply tonight. Thanks!
Is my lawyer out of rehab, yet?
Just kidding.
You go girll! No, really just go. lol
Hunk Envy Rated
NewBlog: Yeah, a lot of his stuff is crap (the only reason I watch it is for him - my husband couldn't believe I made him sit through To The Center of the Earth) but School Ties was brilliant - that keeps him on the list.
AnniThyme: Your welcome! With Connery it's the accent. His politics piss me off but that accent makes me hot. lol
Trudge164: FAIL2FOOS? Thanks!
We don't have too much crossover other than Jon Stewart (who I adore more than I find attractive) and Brendan Frasier (though he's getting a case of Famous Person Bloat the last few years.) But Steve Martin? Hmmm...
Steve Martin is underappreciated I think. He is just as witty and wry as Jon Stewart but it doesn't get showcased daily. :-)
but what about ryan reynolds.. his geogous
and richard gere
oh i could keep going but then im gonna start in on singers an ill be the only one to know who im talking about
Singers? Oh yeah - I have some there too. I limited myself to movie/TV guys just to keep it reasonable though.
certainly has a soft spot for brosnan & jackman, i suspect.
(she doesn't engage in this sort of thing, rating men. thus: no rating women for me, not that i would...)
oh! speaking of rating, rated, jim
Well, I technically didn't rate them, just grouped them as sexiest. :-)
Thanks, Jim!
I have to be in the middle LOL
O'Stephanie: Agreed! Everyone should listen to us. :-)
OESheepdog: Tom Brady? He's hot but didn't make the list.
I take it you've been skipping his recent flicks. Recent as in the 15 or so years! ;p
Honestly, despite the un-evenness of his work, he'll always be funny to me. When he gets it right, it's really good.
Brendan Fraser has done some good work, besides the Mummy etc junk (that is probably making him filthy stinking rich). He was really good in Gods and Monsters.
Meanwhile back at my house, Mrs Bee would put Clint Eastwood and Ralph Fiennes in that list.
I do notice you stole my Steve Martin though. Dammit.
Persephone13: I'll let you have Gabriel Byrne. :-) He is hot, I agree.
Cartouche: Thanks!
Seamus: You should see him in School Ties. He is perfect.
Mary: OMG!!! I am soooo jealous. Also impressed that you could talk when you met him. I'm afraid I would be tongue-tied.
Helen: Thank you! I tried to do more than just throw up some photos.
By the way, I bet I can add another hunk to your list with the heartthrob featured in my next post. Stay tuned.
Tom: Yeah, after I did the list I noticed I was heavily skewed to Bonds. What can I say? The Bond people know how to pic em. Other than Roger Moore - I just don't find him sexy at all, personally. His Bond movie are pretty good in a lighthearted way though. I can't wait to read your post. I'll be on the lookout for it.
I never saw Gods and Monsters, and have heard that it was pretty good.
But I offer up Blast From The Past. What might have been a pretty good movie was awful because of those two stiffs. They had all the chemistry of my left and right shoe!
And Devilgrrl's right. Clive Owen rocks!
ikilledhiswife: I can't disagree with any of your choices. I've been addicted to House lately. Val Kilmer has been sexy in a lot of things (I liked him in Real Genius :-). Long hair is sexy!
devilgrrl: I messed up not having Clive Owen. Did you see Children of Men? He was very good. He'd make a great Bond. :-)
shmadoff: Vin Diesel is in the same category as Dwayne Johnson - not a typical choice for me. Vin was smokin' in the Chronicles of Riddick.
I loved Blast from the Past!!! I'm obviously not very discriminating. :-)
Once again I offer a mea culpa for not including Clive Owen. He should definitely have been on the list!
I can hang with all the rest...I think I like Hugh Jackman just for the accent...
http://alexoloughlinrocks.com
jcliff: Alex looks vaguely familiar but I don't really know who he is at all. I never even knew Moonlight was on. It looks like something I would like though.
I was with you right up till Steve Martin. But if you want to go older yet, how 'bout Ed Harris? His role in The Abyss leaped to mind--- mature but well-muscled--- yow!
Thanks !!!
I would add (to my own list) Jack Black, for the funny, goofy vote; Patrick Stewart & Gerard Butler, for the accents (and other stuff); Dennis Haysbert & Avery Brooks, for the deep baritones....
I could go on and on...
TheBuzz: I so agree with you! Yowza!
alsoknownas: lol
Lisa: Jack Black is definitely worthy. Patrick Stewart reminds me of my Dad too much - I'm not sure why Sean Connery doesn't. Gerard Butler is up there (he was magnificent in 300) but I need to see him in more stuff - I need to rent more of his movies obviously. Dennis Haysbert is hot - did you see him in Now & Again? I was so upset when that show got cancelled. Avery Brooks was great in Deep Space Nine. You have good taste, woman!
No one has mentioned the love of my life, 72-year-old-and-still-sexy Kris Kristofferson. Yes, I know he has made some really bad movies, but if you only know him from his movies, you don't know him at all. I first fell for him and his incredible songwriting back in the early 70s, and it's been true love ever since. A lot of people claim he can't sing, but I could listen to him all day.
I have to agree with Verbal Remedy about beards and long hair -- I like the natural manly man look.
I am much more likely to rob a cradle than date a guy my dad's age, so I can't concur on most of your picks. But I do agree with you about the Rock -- I normally do go for beefcake muscle-men (and I don't think most women do), but there's something cute and endearing about him. I think it's his smile and ease with making fun of himself.
Funny men = heaven. I have a mad crush on Steven Colbert even though the clean-cut/suit look usually turns me off completely.
Also, since your list is so skewed towards older men, I've gotta give the younger guys a shout out:
Ryan Reynolds
Justin Timberlake
James Franco
Eric Bana
Ewan McGregor
Jake Gyllenhaal
Yummy
Your list is funny because I'm thinking "every other one is great" - Ryan Reynolds was mentioned before and I should have included him. James Franco is soooo sexy - did you see Freaks & Geeks? He was awesome in that. Ewan McGregor is totally hot too.
I do really love older guys - I almost included Harrison Ford and I probably should have. He's another one who has it going on.
Rated.
jimgalt: haha
montanarose: Tom Skerrit in Picket Fences! Hugh Laurie has a consensus now. :-)
Poet of Logan Square: Gabriel Byrne is sexy but Persephone snagged him - he's definitely HERS - I'm not getting in between that! You have hit the jackpot with Craig Ferguson. Funny and a sexy accent - I can't believed I missed him.
Caroline: John Cusack was a horrible oversight. I missed a few and decided to let the list stand but he would definitely have been the next one on the list. He was even sexy in ConAir!
Brenda: Thanks!
Vonnie: Wow, Sean Bean is definitely hot. Re: Steve Martin - Me too!
Smeaux: He is a fantastic dancer. Thanks!
coogansbluf: The Dude has long hair and is comfortable nude - he's on the extended list.
I like it when someone goes with their own opinions and feelings.
Good job!
I've really enjoyed all the comments and even the criticism.
There are some very good looking golfers, might give that a thought... Rocco Mediate, Padraig Harrington, good looking guys!
Is Heavy Metal like rap with the misogyny?
Hells Bells: My mom love Kevin Costner. Other than the smile, I just don't see it.
New Blog: Does it matter?
John Cusack melts me. I don't want to know what he is really like.
Oscar Wilde famous quote "be careful what you wish for" comes to mind ( hello Kate Holmes).
thanks Kay.
Monsieur: I have The Mother in my queue. Thanks for the suggestion!
Bwca: Thanks so much!! Yeah, I've heard a lot of negative things about Connery too. Nothing about Martin though -how sad. Cusack is wonderful (definitely should have been on the list) and I wouldn't listen to anything about him either. :-)
I'm just confuzzled as hell at Open Salon.
I rated it way back when though. :-)
nurseliz: I love those additions though I wouldn't want to drop anyone. I'm not a huge fan of Matt Damon but you are right, he is awesome in the Bourne movies!
SJHahn: Yeah, he can have that affect. :-)
I never got the Sean Connery thing. Just too old for my blood. Isn't he like 100 now?
The Buzz: Oh, I think John Cusack still looks good - he's over 40 so the boyishness is getting frayed around the edges a little. We'll have to see what he looks like at 60 to judge. Mickey Rourke isn't even in the same category really, he wasn't attractive in this youth.
Gail: I think we should keep him to ourselves. hehe
Kissinger was always gross. I know power is supposed to be sexy but he wasn't sexy at all.

I couldn't agree more ... he's my all-time favorite man, with Gerard Butler a close second. Yummy!!!
Ohsotender: I really liked him in Enemy Mine. Gerard Butler was the best thing about 300.
1WomansVu: I definitely agree. I missed him but thought I'd let the post stand instead of updating. I'm surprised you are the first one to mention him though. I love the silver in his hair and the laugh lines around eyes.
Let's see, chrono:
The Hustler; Butch; Sting
The Way We Were; Butch; Sting
Becket; Hamlet; Woolf
Becket; Lion; Laurence
sdporter: Thanks!

Adfeminem: He's a cutie!
100% with you on the first four. The rest meh and Steve Martin has always been annoying but that's just me.
catb: I thought Orland Bloom was at his best in LOTR. Swoon. I've got to watch Twilight!
Yeah, I wish I knew from where though.
OK, in total agreement about Daniel Craig. For oldies, add Sam Shepard (I was within one foot of him in a restaurant in New York, last month. Swoon!). Yes, too, on Jon Stewart.
For young-ies, Channing Tatum. Channing Tatum. Channing Tatum. (Just saw "Fighting"!)
I also think Joseph Gordon-Levitt is very cute.
ginseng: Glad to have you!! I don't know Channing Tatum - I'm going to have to look him up. JGL is definitely a cutie!
Do you know what accounts for the continued popularity of this post? You have almost 3x as many hits as the runner-up in most viewed of the month and almost 5x the hits of the third place finisher. The post is not on Digg and when I Google "My Sexiest Men Living" it does not show a link from a major website. Just wondering if you know the secret to your success.
Rated.
I have a post like this as well, only not to the extent of this one. I posted it in March and it has 900 views in the last month, which is really strange because it basically disappeared without a trace when I initially posted it. I have no idea what accounts for these strange shelf lives.
I do have a theory about yours though: I think the women, gays and bi-curious of OS all need a little Daniel Craig pick-me-up in the morning and click on your post to get it. :)
But really, I just clicked on this post because I'm wondering why it seems to NEVER LEAVE the most viewed list. WTF???
Percy: Glad you agree. :-)
I conclude this because of the statistics on a blog I have on Type Pad. One particular post of mine has gotten thousands of hits from a particular google search that is unrelated to my blog, but just happens to call up an image in my post.
I'll bet that's it.
And now we all know how to get 10,000 hits on our posts!
Daniel Craig: An excellent Bond. Loved him in "Quantum of Solace" & "Flashbacks of a Fool" (altho he should have been onscreen more than he was, in the latter movie). Nice shower scene in "Tomb Raider" too! ; D
Pierce Brosnan: THE James Bond, no question about it. The most athletic Bond ever (altho Craig will give him a run for his money). And if you think his Bond was sexy, watch him in the "Thomas Crown Affair" remake! OMG... Steve who? lol
Sean Connery: Never believable as Bond cuz he was too damn good looking. A secret agent who stands out in a room won't last long in the spy world. (Also never liked his wearing lipstick as Bond.) Check out "The Wind and the Lion" sometime, where he plays a Moroccan sheikh whose sexy manliness made me (& Candice Bergen) totally swoon.
Hugh Jackman: Wow, totally beautiful man inside and out! Smart, gracious, generous & likable on every talk show he visits. Plus he can sing, dance & host the Oscars like nobody else ever has! I love everything this man does. In "Kate and Leopold", he was not only gorgeous, he also might be the last man who ever made Meg Ryan look interesting. (Yes, that was a swipe at Meg Ryan.)
Jon Stewart: Agreed, he is smart, sexy and adorable! The main reason I watch the Daily Show, now that they aren't busting on Bush much anymore. He also had an interesting appearance as a science teacher in the horror movie "The Faculty".
Dwayne Johnson: Oh, this guy is so sweet he makes sugar taste bitter! His recent SNL hosting gig shows that he has an excellent sense of humor & doesn't take himself too seriously-- a must for sexiness in my opinion. Gorgeous smile, and check out the "Walking Tall" remake & especially "The Scorpion King" if you want to drool over his bod... both are in my DVD library. ; )
Steve Martin: I love him as the ordinary guy dealing with frustrating situations ("Planes, Trains & Automobiles"), or as a father & husband dealing with the ups & downs of family life ("Parenthood"). He is grace, & humanity, under pressure-- that is very attractive. Hosted SNL more than anyone else, looks very sexy with silver hair, & how many other cute guys do you know of who can play the banjo so well?
Brendan Fraser: Smart, funny and down-to-earth, he can do drama, comedy & action movies with ease (not a simple thing for many actors). Absolutely riveting in "Gods and Monsters", but I like him best in "Bedazzled"-- he and Elizabeth Hurley have a great chemistry, plus he brings a very human touch to a role that he could have walked through just for laughs.
p.s. About his name... come on, OS people!!! It's Brendan F-R-A-S-E-R. Not Frasier. It's not like his name is Brendan Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, fergodsake!! Get it right, please!
Further notes: The ONLY older guy actor who can rock the "long grey hair" look is Sam Elliott. All the other older guys who try it just look seedy. And old.
Clive Owen does deserve an honorable mention. What a drop dead handsome man... too bad he didn't want to play Bond, he would have been perfect. (Okay, maybe a little too handsome & seductive.) Check out the scene in "Gosford Park" near the end, where Kelly Macdonald figures out something about him. Sigh... lucky girl...
Another honorable mention: Gerard Butler. Mmmm. Gorgeous rock-n-roll voice in "Phantom of the Opera", too bad he had to wear that damn mask most of the time & we hardly ever got to see how cute he was! But he made up for it in "300"... didn't care for the beard, but OMG, the body... big sigh...
Thanks again for this thought-provoking list, Kaysong! You brought a big smile to my day! : D
Your post is so famous it is now part of Daniel Craig's Wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Craig
The reference is right above the table of contents.
Not that I'm bitter.
Dana: Thanks for finding that out, Dana!! It's nice to have the mystery solved. It was just luck the photo I picked.
Miz Swank: :-) Thanks for stopping by.
ZaZaCat: Thank you! I've been using this handle for over 10 yrs - it's how I met my husband. :-)
I agree with all your comments on my guys. I've seen most of the movies you mention but you've given me a few to get on DVD. Sam Elliott does rock the long grey hair! Clive Owen is handsome and seductive in all he does. Gosford Park was better for having him in it. Have you seen Children of Men? Gerard Butler in 300 was drop dead gorgeous.
Johnny Depp should definitely be on the list!
Rolling: Yes on Keanu Reeves. He was great in the Matrix movies. I'll have to check out Jeremy Brett. The avatar is Lake Louise in Canada (near Banff).
Travis: OMG!!! I didn't realize I spoke for all of OS though. lol
Douglas: You are right. A lot of girls don't appreciate the funny guys until they are more mature. I can tell you that girls who were geeks liked funny guys in HS but funny guys were still hankering after the cheerleaders.
Juliet: I just think it's funny and it seems clear tht it's because of the photo I linked to.
livemonster: I'll agree Jeff Bridges. :-)
livemonster: Rene Russo is wonderful. She's a real woman. I agree about Brad Pitt. I'm surprised as you that no one has mentioned him but it's probably because he gets enough mention from the press. :-) I even thought he was interesting in Twelve Monkeys even though he was trying to be repulsive.
How about Susan Sarandon?
Sexiest scene: Everyone makes fun of this one but the pottery scene in Ghost is one I like. I need to think on this more.
(And in my view, she maintained this hotness later; watch her in "Shadowlands," for example.)
Alexander Skarsgard
Ewan MacGregor
Clive Owen
Gerard Butler
He seems affected in ways the others don't.
Walter: Need a sexy picture of yourself to post. lol
Kimmy: Definitely "sponge-worthy"! I think that's my favorite episode. :-)
Mike Rowe
Oliver "Olly" Steeds
Matthew Macfadyen
Steve Carrell
Christopher Meloni
Jonathan Hamm
Hugh Jackman definitely gets reserve best in show!
I used to think Paul Newman was the most handsome and beautiful man in the world until I watched a segment on 60 minutes about two brothers in Spain who are matadors. Cayetano Rivera Ordonez. Google-images him. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Add some more spice to your mix.......yummy comes in all flavors!
Hey it's not MY fault if you haven't heard of him.
David: He's only been in French movies! No wonder I've never heard of him. He's a little young too. :-)
Mesmersi: Cooking for me is sexy. Doing the dishes even sexier. :-)
Just saw "Star Trek" so am now a practitioner of Quinto love, Quinto being the actor who plays Young Spock . . .
I saw Star Trek on Monday. I really liked Karl Urban and Chris Pine wasn't bad. Quinto was cute. Something about those ears. :-)
ZoeZu: Anthony definitely has something unique. Love the hair!
I'm looking forward to Bale in the Terminator movie.
Did you see the story about the Daniel Craig Popsicle? Here's a link:
http://open.salon.com/blog/mary_elizabeth_williams/2009/06/01/can_i_get_this_popsicle_in_a_paul_rudd
Now for the tall dark and handsome category, Benicio Del Toro and Javier Bardem are definitely hot! I hope they are gentlemen and angels in their personal lives!
jcliff: Javier Bardem is super sexy. One I missed.
I don't know any of these guys. That's part of the allure, I think.
Sam Elliot should be on there too. Sexiest cowboy alive hands down, regardless of age.
Robert Redford, Mike Rowe, Johnny Depp.... so many out there.
Thanks for the diversion, Kaysong!
HonoraryGeek: Must be! :-)
Saqi: Thank you so much!
Also, I can't believe Jon Hamm hasn't been mentioned.
Gerard Butler comes close, but too much of manho now. He was sexiest in a small movie, before he became famous, called "Dear Frankie". Go and rent it, it is wonderful.
Remember Armand Assante? He was pretty sexy.
vx
bnc: Johnny Depp is beautiful and his face is so expressive. I'll look up "Dear Frankie" - I love smaller films. Armand Assante is definitely sexy.
Vicky: The first two would be very hard to resist! :-)
K, I've been away from this post for several MONTHS, but earlier I blogged about Channing Tatum.
Now I've read other comments, and I have to add Sam Worthington b/c I just saw him this summer in "Terminator: Salvation." He totally OWNED the movie.
This is fun! (Oh, also want to let people know that I think Michael Biehn has been added to the cast of "NCIS" -- at least, I saw him on a recent episode. He's older, but still looks hot)
ginseng: Welcome back. You were right about Channing Tatum! I've seen the clips of Salvation and I agree Sam looks hot. I'm waiting for the DVD to see the movie though.
Michael Biehn (who has been a favortie of mine since Terminator) was on Criminal Minds this season. I hope he's back next season.
NCIS is going to have a spin off (NCIS Los Angeles) this fall with LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell. I've never watched NCIS much but I might have to watch the spin off because LL Cool J and Chris are probably fantastic. I grew up watching Chris so it's like having an old friend back in your life.
BSherman: John Cusack is definitely a miss on my part. I should have had him on the list! I've heard the chauvinist pig stuff about Sean Connery. I probably wouldn't like him if I met him in person.
*sigh*
Good thing we're perfectly okay with it.
