I just finished up some work and decided to see what games were going to be shown on NHL Network this weekend. This is the first year that the network has been available on our cable system.
Besides getting nightly roundups and many games - especially "Hockey Night in Canada… Read full post »
A few weeks back, Salon Broadsheet writer Nancy Goldstein noted that WNBA rosters would be cut from thirteen to eleven players for the upcoming 2009 season. Goldstein lamented the loss of jobs for female athletes as another sign of the rough economic times, and perhaps an end to an/… Read full post »
Okay, maybe there's not that much similarity, but tonight when Ed Henry (CNN) asked his question (and followup!), I was sure that Ricky Gervais had taken his place. No really. Okay. Maybe not. Read full post »
Jere Longman (NY Times) writes today about Club Indios in Mexico’s Primera Division. Indios play in Ciudad Juarez across the border from El Paso, Texas. As Longman describes, Indios players & fans have been affected by the drug war violence in the area.

I was reading a post here at OS about U2’s current place in the music world (link below) when I came across this line:
But once you cross the threshold to being rich and removed, out-of-touch - a.k.a. soccer mom approved - it's time to go.
Newcastle United fell into the dreaded “drop zone” this weekend. Relegation is staring the club in the face with only eight matches remaining in the season. They need inspiration … and goals … and a reliable defense.
Mark Knopfler provides the uplifting song… Read full post »
It’s funny how an older musician’s name pops up in one conversation, and then a second chat, and then maybe in a blog entry. Pretty soon, I find myself digging out old (vinyl) albums and 45s, and looking at “live concert” cassettes. Then I start thinking that maybe i… Read full post »
Looks like a great night to be in NYC, Madison Square Garden specifically. Quite the lineup will be assembled on May 3rd.
At the Lincoln Memorial Concert in January, Pete Seeger looked very spry. I was surprised to see that he’l… Read full post »
Champions League draw took place today and my first glance gut reaction says we are looking at a ManU v Liverpool Final in Rome.
Much will happen between now and then but that’s my initial thought. In the quarterfinal round. I think Arsenal will squeak past Villarreal to play ManU… Read full post »
“Stand up if you hate AIG”
Sure it’s an old investment (£56.5m over four years) but more reason to hate the Evil Empire.
At least they won’t carry on after May 2010.
For those interested, Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) has corrected problems from Tuesday night and will air the Women’s Professional Soccer Season Preview Show tonight (Friday/Thursday) at 12:30am ET/9:30pm PT.
… and, I certainly will make mention of this Twitter update from yesterday&r… Read full post »
Some recent comments here at OS reminded me of an interview from the summer of 2007. To pull in the football thread, I note this QandA from Scholars & Rouges:

Two Champions at Toyota Park?
Chicago’s days as home of champions of a professional sports league have been spotty at best. Oh yes, there was the recent White Sox World Series triumph (they really did win, right?) and those years of dominance for the Chicago Bulls when they had ol&rsquo/… Read full post »
