The fifty states, DC, and all the territories are represented by a tree~It's always a mob scene because people want a picture in front of their tree. Idaho had the biggest crowd tonight. This is the tree from Guam, or maybe DC, I don't remember. Neither one draws a big crowd.

Unfortunately we discovered the National Zoo is closed Christmas Day.

Hope your day was merry and bright~

I would have taken more photographs, but my companions were getting cold and grinch-like.
Thanks for this!!! Lovely to see. It is actually kind of warm outside, and the first Christmas in many years with no snow...

It was a fun day though!!!
Lovely! Merry Christmas, Joanie! Thank you for a fine year of photographs and stories.
Sheila, it's cold here!

Dianaani, thanks for everything!
Happy Festival of Lights Seasons Greetings Joan. This was wonderful to see/read. I loved the picture of the lights out at the White House. I miss lights turned off in the public world - reminds me of my childhood. The place has to be full of people even if the first family isn't there - why were the lights out? Hope your Grinches warmed and cheered up! Merry Merry Holy Holy Joy Joy to you. r
Great shots, Joanie. There is so much to do and see in D.C. It's the perfect place for a terrific photographer like you.

Lezlie
Delia, it looks like nobody's home...I liked the way it looked too.

Lezlie, thank you so much.
A lovely view, Joan. Too often I forget the overwhelming beauty of that city.
Great pictures that you did get. I tend to forget how grand and lovely Washington is, on account of reading so much about all the grubby stupid petty stuff that goes on there...
You did good, sister mine. Who can live in Chicago and grinch all over DC weather? Jeez. Still, you managed to capture the best.
And a beautiful night it was. Thanks Joanie.
I love nighttime photographs, all dark with twinkly lights and glowing things. Beautiful grouping, Joanie, and lovely subjects. DC is exceptional through your camera.
Beautiful. Thank you for this gift. I've never been to D.C., but hope to some day.
NIcely done Joanie, Happy Holidays..
You always bring us the best of the best. Beautiful shots. Thank you and thank your companions, too, for being patient!
Irritated_ Mom, if you ignore the politics, this city is full of beauty. Thanks for coming by.

Myriad, exactly. Politics gives Washington its bad name. :)

Sally, night photography is not everyone's idea of a good time. Go figure, xo

trilogy, thank you for taking time from the little ones to stop by.

Candace, I think I will be out taking pictures at night more often. It's a whole different world. xo

Deborah, I'm glad you stopped by.

Rita, thank you for coming by in the middle of the night. I was up too...

Margaret, shoot, I knew I forgot something in the trunk of the car.
This puts a huge smile on my face, Joanie. :) I love when your eye showcases our home. r.
Thank you so much for the pictorial. Beautiful.
Dazzling, Joanie. Thanks. I hope your day was wonderful.
Christmas in Washington is one of the things/times I miss most about living in the nation's capital. Lovely photos of a beautiful city.
beautiful Joan..
HUGGGGGGGGGG
Thank you for sharing! I think I would like to visit DC at the holidays. Beautiful. Glad your grinchy friends tolerated the cold for awhile.
I've heard Washington is very dangerous and it's easy to get lost...
@Larry, it's easy to get lost if you are looking for "J" street.
Jonathan, Linnn, Chicken Maaan, thank you for coming by!

Mary, I would miss it if I moved, too...

Linda, hugs back, Darlin'

Firechick, yeah, those friends can be buzz kills. :)
I would have walked with you Joan, we could have put the others on the Metro. Thanks for the beautiful photos, I always love what you do.
Larry gets lost a the zoo.
Newt Gingrich loves zoos.
I read that in Wash/Post.
`
I followed a ranter here.
bbd is a gentleman tho.
Barry D. for DC mayor!
`
He can help Sam Kass.
Sam cooks great soup.
Sam wears a tiara hat.
bbd wears `yarmulke.
Newt frisk chimpanzee.
He loves the alligators,
chimps, peacocks, owl,
and he seems a `idiot.
He has tenure in DC.
He ruins zoo animals.

This can be acceptable for Sam Kass to view.

Thanks. I saw bbd rated you. No be mugged in DC.
Politicos stroll the street dressed as bums and crooks.
No worry about the real homeless. They share Pizza.
Homeless rummage in barn bins and find goose eggs.
They crack goose eggs open and cook on heat grates.
They share
Politicos weep
They sit in puddle
Politico share what?
They share chap stick.
They find cold pizzas.
They share with B.O..
They send to Hawaii.
No burp 7-up & beer.
Sip milk & burp coke.
DC's in bad condition.
You shoot pretty photos.
There are no annoying bums.
Bums are the deranged creeps.
We know who thee fools are.
It's not Joan H. Thank You.
Art, I love both you and Joan.
Two of my favorite people~ thank you so much, Barry and Art.
Thank you for sharing your life with us. I bet you're enjoying having your daughter home!
I Love Life, yes, it's great to have her here. Thanks for coming by!
Such a beautiful place to visit. Lived there for 3 years, and it never got old seeing the sites. Thanks for posting this!
Merry Christmas, Joan!

"All is calm, all is bright" so perfectly reflected in your photos. Very nice. I do so enjoy the photos you share throughout the year. Thank you, Joan.
I love, love, love your photos of the Capital. Makes me feel connected.
Beautiful! If I'd been there, I would have been up for shooting a lot longer. Been there, done that, with companions who got tired of waiting. ;)
Happy Holidays (belated) to you too, Joan H. D.C. looks beautiful. I wonder if you had a good pair of binoculars, if you could stand outside the White House and watch the Obamas opening their presents. Not that I would do such a thing.
Such a beautiful city, home of such wackos. Merry to you.
Great shots! Haven't been downtown at night in a very long time. Sorry the Zoo was closed, one of my coworkers went to see the Zoo Lights, maybe next year for me. Since I'm too late for Christmas, I'll wish you an early Happy New Year!
It's rare (around here) to see Christmas lights so tastefully done. We had merry and bright but also a lot of other adjectives in the mix, which is probably par for the course even if there are no songs about it!
@Elizabeth, it's the wackos that give the rest of us a bad name.

Thanks again to all who stopped by~
How cool! I didn't know about each state having a tree! And YESS! How I miss big menorahs here.....

Hope you had a wonderful time celebrating the holidays, and all the best to you and yours in 2012!
