Turning Lead Into Gold

Rate: 23 Flag

  The-Philosophers-Stone

 The Philospher's Stone

It is puzzling that we struggle with this life

We worry about what others think about us

When they really don't reflect on us at all

We reach out our hand to others hoping

Often, our hands get slapped away or dismissed

Not only because of meanness or disagreements

But for something perhaps even worse-indifference

We, They are wrapped up in our own worlds

The ones we created in our minds for reasons

We really never challenge or analyze fully

Falsely believing that our disputes are

So unique, important-a trap we gladly embrace

The gift of consciousness is not recognized

Here we are in this shared reality orbiting

On an isolated blue orb in a silent universe

We don't spend enough time looking up or in

Rather, we mostly react to events, conditions

Most of them petty and meaningless in the end

We shrug off our victories and shiny moments

Focusing instead on the struggles, dilemmas

We look for all kinds of myths or explanations

Of why this life must have some hidden meaning

Some still adhere to Bronze Age stories to help

Others can hardly wait for the other, better life

Which is so odd, unbalanced as this now life

Is amazing, wonderful and could be enjoyable

Many seem to enjoy not enjoying, claiming

The right for if you only knew my struggles

I've been used, abused, refused and forced to lose

The universe is out to get me and I can prove it

People hurt me, tear at my giving heart unfairly

The search for happiness is never really earnest

Yes, it is puzzling that most do not relish living

They put a noose around their neck voluntarily

Wishing for this, hoping for that, ignoring...

The marvels along the way on this journey

Seven billion souls exist on this planet but

How many truly live? And am I one of them?

If not, why? This life is a flash in eternity

I need to remember that at all times-will I?

Come with me.  Kick back and let's take a drive through Montana. It is relaxing. Click the small button not the big one on the screen.  If it kicks off-(thanks Google) then come back and try again.  It is worth it.

It is 99 degrees in this valley today. Time for a swim.
This is worthy waxing, Doc.
I found this post revelatory dr spud. I mean that. It reminds me of how Jan Sand talks. It's both philosophy get also about how many choose not to live. In my experience, some lucky ones get to live without even choosing it, it is in their blood. Their fate. For the rest of us, we choose or we do not. If I cannot even pass judgement yes or no for myself, how can I know about others. I cannot. Very beautiful putting prose into poetic lines. Excellent post that spoke to me as many do not. Thanks Dr Spudman, good treatment for the universal illness Rated
There is one other thing I wanted to say. When I was in my 40's I had symptoms that were unexplained and my then husband and I went to a great doctor. He said to me, "Very good you fear cancer there are thousands who wish for it." Would not have remembered that line if not for your words. Weird, ain't it?
"Used, abused , refused and forced to lose" and still coming back for more. Sounds like earned wisdom or insanity. After reading your post I'm going with earned wisdom:)
Thanks I needed that! Loved the tune and the drive too.
You really had a lot to say about me in that. I am going to be scratching my head for awhile over this.
i want to stand outside my door and wave in the air and shout "yes, yes, blackie got it so right." you did. this is *exactly* what i was talking about, seeing what is out there, feeling every thing, tasting it, hearing it, being a part of the world i live in. what you wrote made me feel what was coming on the video before i ever hit 'play.' brilliant stuff, my friend.
Hi, all! I love that video. I watch it every morning as a meditation. Love the movement and of course Van is still one of the best. The scenery is exactly like the trip I take each week up river. Thanks for praising my rather sophomoric words. I like doing these prose in poetry form posts.

Man Talk made it over--great!
WendyO--My goodness, I haven't seen you around for a long time.
Frazier? Hey, man thanks for the attention.
Algis--Love everyone of your posts and am honored to get visits from you.
Candace--I posted this and then found your post immediately afterward. Seems we were thinking along similar paths. You are so kind to me--I love you for it.
"The gift of consciousness is not recognized

And then someone like Roberto you comes along to remind us.
Thanks Potato Man. x
Yes. A thousand times, yes. ~r
"Most of them petty and meaningless in the end". This is so damn true. Love the VanMan!
Was that a Statie there around 5:42, parked in the grass waiting to give us a ticket? Well, you're driving so I guess you'll pay it. Very pretty country there in Montana, and the world is always extra good when Van is singing. Much truth in your poem. Like Tom Waits says, "get down off the cross, we could use the wood, and come on up to the house".
Google has screwed up YouTube dammit. Hope you get to see the video-it is a cool trip. Hey, Joan and Scarlett. Greenheron--it was a cop, wasn't it. Love the Tom quote. Thanks for coming over you three wonderful friends.
who can remember that at all times? :)
In this moment though, you have reminded me to be grateful.
Hey, Julie. Perhaps you would like to review a project I did. Go to drspud44.com--click on mental wellness--click on the picture and there is my Transformation is Exciting Program. Scroll to the bottom and see what you think. Over fifty people have went through it, thus far. I only mention this because you quoted a phrase from a mental health conversation I was having a bit ago.
Julie's comment is exactly what I was thinking. I guess I can chalk it up to the human condition because it is very easy to ignore "the marvels along the way on this journey." Unfortunately those marvels often become overshadowed by the petty and meaningless struggles and dilemmas. Although to be fair, "petty and meaningless" to one person might be "tragic and overwhelming" to another. :) But as she said, thank you for the reminder - I needed it today.
Margaret do not misinterpret me here. I wrote those words for myself too. I am not gallant philosopher. I struggle all the time with the petty nonsense. But the message is still valid. It is just a blink of time and why not enjoy it?
beautiful in every way
Thanks Lefty... Better than my politics, huh?
Yes, Scanner Van never gets old does he? I have a bunch of his videos on my YouTube channel.
Thanks for reminding us of "The marvels along the way on this journey"
I like this Dr. Spud and often choose to live and sometimes live in the realm of hoping and reaching and not really experiencing. A little reality check is sometimes needed. Van is certainly one of life's pleasures.
Our political system turns those easily lead into gold. Shameful.
"Only by much searching and mining are gold and diamonds obtained, and man can find every truth connected with his being if he will dig deep into the mine of his soul."

James Allen from
As Man Thinketh

Nice job...with love, Dee
Thanks for the ride Doc.
Odd and sad to think about I know a bunch of people like that and have been there. Great prose DrS, and of course the trip is always nice. Montana is great also. Well done..............o/e 8.7 (I am gonna rate with numbers now just to be different)
I am comforted by the wisdom of one of the NA grandfathers, who passed it on to my friend Steve, who passed it on to me:

"You can know what you do, but you can't know what you do does."

If we are lucky, we sometimes catch a glimpse of that truth in action, as when I discover something I've done has positively influenced someone in a way I couldn't have imagined.
I'm so glad to see you writing, and so glad I stopped by to read this . . . an excellent meditation . . .
if you have the self consciousness the universe
was "built" to achieve,
i firmly believe
(not in a mythological or mystical way, but a hard
scientific/mythopoetic/historical way)

then these questions are for the old wave.
We are the new wave.
We have all the scientific info at our fingertips.
Plus all the art, literature, and psychology.
and metaphysics.
And also we can chat up anyone else on the planet, an email away.

catbird seat time. the elevated view.

put the puzzle together.

myths evolve.

"The gift of consciousness is not recognized

Here we are in this shared reality ,"
dreaming still..struggling courageously, some of us,
to wake up. Before this becomes one of those scary old myths
where the world ends rather
badly...

Dr. Spud - Glad I came by today. Thanks for the ride, the song and the moment of almost togetherness. Rated with a Jali Smile. :-)
