- Bio
- I was born when Halley’s Comet last appeared overhead and named accordingly. Since then, I've become a writer, artist, and columnist.
In addition to Open Salon, my work appears frequently in The Huffington Post, All Things Healing, Gender Across Borders: A Global Feminist Blog, and several other publications.
I blog daily at my site HayleysComments.com
I recently published my first book, "I Know Why They Call a Shell a Shell." The book is about domestic violence, a topic that I am very vocal about. It chronicles my journey away from tumultuous love affairs by weaving stories of her past with stories from literature, music, and visual art of both modern and classical significance.

The Appeal of the Bad Boy and How Women Get Sucked In
In 2011, I remember coming across this headline: “Why Did Kat Von D Tattoo Jesse James’ Face on Her Body?” Wow, good question! Von D swore she’d never laser that baby off, but as of December 2012 she has started the removal process. It is not that simple.… Read full post »

Is the GOP Trying to "Censor" American Women?
Mixed reactions are pouring in with regards to HYURO, a Spanish artist's, recent public mural in Atlanta, Georgia. Frame-by-frame, the mural depicts a nude woman dressing, then disrobing. Certain frames of the painting portray the woman as completely nude and a lot of the Atlanta citizens… Read full post »
Todd Akin’s Irresponsibility Outweighs his Arrogance
Wednesday, I participated in a discussion on “BBC WHYS” called “WHYS 60: Survivors of rape have their say.” The discussion included five other rape survivors and the input from a group of survivors was extremely thought provoking.
Though many of us were from different countrie… Read full post »
Quit Your Rape Baiting, OK? Thanks
Recently Representative Todd Akin made some outstanding remarks. When asked if abortion should be permitted in cases of pregnancies resulting from rape, Akin replied,"From what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that… Read full post »
