MEET YOUR SKY

Rate: 20 Flag

The sky has always been, my favourite eye seeing, heart feeling. The word human in greek is ανθρωπος, meaning '' looking high, looking  towards the sky '', and this more than the ability, that we human have, has a strong connection with the virtues we all carry.

To me the sky, has a symbolic value, added to its true value, cause sometimes, when all is said, done, thought, felt, in the utter times, we all want a sky to look, a sky to love and love us back. It has been an issue of my thinkings and feelings, that the ones inprisoned, when asked, '' what to you miss more'', after the word freedom, most of the times, have as their strongest longing to see the sky, the one that we, walk under every day without glancing not for an instance. I think we live in a mirroring society.. We want to see ourselves in the mirror, and then again ourselves, through the eyes of others, when the other becomes our mirror. We take nature, sky, trees, animals, sea for granted and most of our times is through the society, build in an artificial nature.

Sky is there, not only to brings us beauty, but as a reminder of our spirituality, and the way we all our heading..if we want it, I think. It is our nature to meet our sky, after meeting our selves, our given family, our friends, our work, our bills, our chosen family, it is in our nature to meet the sky. Although, living takes us all away from the true essence of living, I always -when  looking the  sky-, understand that I have a long way to walk, till I can be a complete human..so complete as a travelling cloud, and as a working bird.Μοst of my work has to do with nature and feelings, so I could not resist, sharing with you all, some of my most favourite images, cause to be trully honest, I love my images, they are like friends to me. As sky is for all of us, a friend. Meet your sky in your eyes, in everyday living, inside, and make nature a constant life in life, I am always telling my self.

All  images, are from Volos, Greece, 2010-2011 and are photographed by Stathi Stathi.

Thank you for your time and interest,

Be well and meet your sky!!!

Afrodite, those are wonderful thoughts and great looking photos of the skies you have encountered in your travels! It's interesting to note that so many photos I have seen over the years of Greece nearly always show a deep blue sky with no clouds so I have been fascinated to see your many photos that actually include beautiful cloud formations as seen over your country!
Great pics as always.
Your photographs haunt me, Afrodite, and your words wash over me like cool water in a brook. So soothing and full of wisdom.

Your words are powerful, Afrodite, and you have put your finger on one of the chief problems in our society, as I see it. We are too self absorbed. And I agree that nature and especially the vast grandeur of the sky can be restorative and give us a more realistic perspective and is awe-inspiring. Your black and white photos of clouds are filled with drama and implications that seem ominous to me because I associate dark clouds with nature's whimsical violence. Humbling, for sure.
Wonderful photos. I do know that stepping outside lets me breathe. It's a great feeling.
So cool. Is it true the ancient Greeks thought the sky was a cow in the sky? ... R.
I've always sought strength from the sky. Very interesting and intriguing images and words. Liked Matt's comment about "whimsical violence" a lot too.
Afrodite: I am always inspired by your pictures and your insights. My classical training is thin at best, and I have long been aware of the -anthr- root from ancient Greek, meaning, "man," but I had no idea it was related to the sky. Of course, the pre-Olympian mythology personifying the sky gave us Ouranos (by one Anglicization) or Uranus (by another). The color of a clear sky during the day--blue--is also the archetypal color of infinity and mystery.

Years ago my mother clipped a sentimental poem by James Kavanaugh because it reminded her of me. A portion of it--and I edit for continuity--goes, "Some men are too gentle to live among wolves...who dream instead of Easter eggs and fragrant grass / and search for beauty in the mystery of the sky."

Oh, Stathi, is there any hope for a man like me?
Beautiful, Afrodite. You convey your love of nature beautifully.
STATHI STATHI,

"...it is in our nature to meet the sky." I agree, and I think we are all the better for it.

Your photographs are stunning!
Afrodite

We only exist as our resonances with others.
God sits at the mouth of a canyon singing. You and I are the echoes in the canyon

My three favourite things where I get lost in thought and can just sit for hours in awe of sheer beauty .... the ocean, the mountains and the sky.

Your words and your photos are lovely, filled with wisdom and very thought-provoking, Afrodite. Thank you for sharing this and yourself.

And thank you too for the challenge.
Wonderfully composed, written...heartfelt and felt, in my heart. Thank you.
Beautiful words and photos, Afrodite. Yes, we do take nature for granted, but I know that in times of trouble I find myself looking skyward at clouds, stars, a sunset or birds flying by. It reminds me there's so much more than what goes on here on earth.
So stark the skies and hidden behind the foreboding clouds. Very well done.
[r] wonderful! thank you. Living in NYC my visits west to brothers are precious not only for comraderie, but also to get away from the concrete canyons of NYC. Sky and clouds. I take so many pix of the sky, remarking so often about the clouds and the sky I am laughed at. One brother says he cherishes drizzly days in CA because they are precious and novel. Hah! best, libby
The sky is not the limit but it has beauty and boundries for all. I have never been found of a cloudless sky. I prefere at least thirty % clouds.
The top image is my favorite. Is that Icarus ?
