Do Only Fools Answer Polls?

A couple of current poll results indicate that the answer may well be in the affirmative.

How Santorum, who a few months ago had been relegated to de minimus standing in the polls, could now be a front runner is unfathomable. It seems that those responding to polls are fickle trend followers who flit from flower to flower out of nothing more substantive or profound than boredom. Fortunately, when Obama looms large as a competitor, that boredom will be transformed into frantic patriotic activity.

Those who have been flitted away from previously certainly had their demerits. But Santorum has them to the power squared, and I expect, and certainly hope, that those currently supporting him will flit away again and soon.

Santorum has no business running for president. He's personally irritating, philosophically foul, and scarred in terms of his political past. Although I try not to be a one-issuer evaluator, anyone who favors the revival of Don't Ask, Don't Tell or worse is clearly lacking in basic humanity.

This may require a bit of elaboration. There is a tendency these days to lump the gay marriage question with DADT. They couldn't be more different. Gay marriage, in the context of a legal system which has already accorded gay couples equal rights with breeding Americans, is not worth getting one's panties in a twist. On the other hand, someone who takes the position that someone who is willing to risk life for country is in any sense subordinate is contemptible.

Bill O'Reilly got it exactly right last night when he observed that Obama is successfully courting the support of a growing group of citizens that is much more interested in acquiring the latest electronic devices to relieve the responsibility of advancing the cause of human progress. That's bound to occur among the unaccomplished. The tragedy is that Obama continues to enjoy the support of left-wing intellectuals who should certainly know better.

Well, William F also said that he'd rather pick the President out of the phone book like a poll than the Harvard Faculty Directory.
Gordon, you never fail to surprise me. A conservative, who actually thinks! Rated
Poor Santorum is having difficulty coming to grips with the fact that his "flash-in-the-pan" rise in the polls was the same as his predecessors; it just came later.
Thought I'd let you know that I agree with you on this one Gordon. Santorum would be a disaster for the Republicans. Obama would clean his clock. Not that it matters much, as Obama will win over anyone in the current field of republican hopefuls.
