Why can't I quit crying?
Not tears of sadness.
Tears of hope?
Tears of fear?
Tears to celebrate how far we have come as a nation?
It is the evening of the day.....
I cried as Malia and Sasha walked down the stairs to take their places on this most historic day.
I sit and watch the children play
Smiling faces I can see, but not for me
I sit and watch as tears go by .....
I cried when my best friend Mimi called me as Michelle appeared and joined her daughters. Mimi cried with me.
My riches can't buy everything
I want to hear the children sing
All I ever hear is the sound of rain falling on the ground
I sit and watch as tears go by.....
The sobs break free; Barack Obama is president! It feels that a long held breath has been expelled across the nation, dare I say the world? Suddenly the sun shines a little brighter. I feel "included" again. Not dismissed with a shrug... a sneer... a "Bushisum".
It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Doin' things I used to do, they think they are new....
As this new generation of leadership settles in, I hope that we will not be doing things as we are used to doing. We really do have to do something new. Things like keep our kids in school and families in homes. We have to figure out why there are children in our United States who don't know when their next meal may be. If it's Friday night, that might not be until school on Monday morning. We need to do what our new president asks of us.
And what is that you ask?
Simply put; let's become THE United States again.
Put away the political discord that has gripped this nation the last few years, roll up your sleeves, and let US help one another.
Please.
I sit and watch as tears go by .....

Let us transform it into a nation of hope and love for all, no matter what our creed.
I do so pray.
