This is a classic Cold War bit of trivia: Who were the five officers who stood under a 2 kiloton (kt) nuclear explosion to show that we could safely take out Russian tanks, Syrian dicatators, and North Korean artillery, and it's no big shakes?
Well, that's not really what they were doing, other than telling Ivan that we would nuke all sorts of targets, bridges, power plants, just folks like my old Uncle Bob, Lt. Col (Retired) Strategic Air Command.
There is a trace of relief when the nuke goes off at 18,000 feet, and they don't get anything more than their hair being mussed from the blast wave, and a little warm, and of course, a lot irradiated, "This is safe, Sir?!"
Ah, back when people trusted their government more, and what a nice fireworks show in that video as to the link.
So happy nuclear bomb goes off over your head but it's ok, because Uncle Sam says its kosher day.
