Curious Volunteer seems to have temporarily lost her groove.
Why be glib? I’ve had a hard time. I haven’t been able to muster the wherewithal to volunteer or write.
October passed me by. I made a half-hearted attempt. The results: uninspiring. November looms ahead and I have no volunteer plans. The thought leaves me overwhelmed and bummed. On a scale of one to ten, life’s challenges rate higher than volunteering. And, you know, volunteering makes me so happy. I haven’t even been able to muster the wherewithal to get in the groove. So I’m giving myself a pass this month.
Life is taking me from Denver, Colorado to Bethesda, Maryland. And I’m looking for ideas that will get me into the community and out of my rut: fresh start sort of thing. One year ago I asked my readers for suggestions as to where I should volunteer in December and the winner was Denver’s Anchor Center for Blind Children. For some reason, they thought I'd make a great elf, a Santa's helper, if you please. My complete lack of experience, interacting with blind infants and children as well as acting as elf, inhibited no one; in particular me. Surprising insights gained and shared and published in the newspaper culminated my first year as a serial volunteer. (You can read the article/blog here.)
I asked my readers for suggestions in 2009 and so I am repeating the call in 2010. What can I do in Montgomery County, Maryland or the District of Columbia in December? Anyone have a favorite organization I should check out? Help me get back in the groove.
