With oil prices dipping below $43 a barrel; it is clearly time for the tremendous savings being reaped by gasoline consumers everywhere, especially those with long commutes and/or gas guzzlers, to be taxed appropriately.
I hope those same individuals who were so vocal for demanding more taxation on the profits of oil companies as prices skyrocketed will be just as vocal in demanding that we do more to raise gasoline taxes to help support the economic crisis this country has found itself in. Clearly people are in a position to pay more at the pump; we have all become well accustomed to higher prices, so another 20-30 cents a gallon will still keep prices at a level much lower than before while also increasing revenue substantially. It's about time for people to get on board with this plan!
