In a recent article, Mary Ann Sorrentino commented: "I’m no computer genius but I’m not totally web-illiterate either, but, frankly, inserting a video in my post rarely works for me. Is there a secret handshake you have to do or something?"
The following is a step-by-step guide on how to insert a video. For this example, the video to be inserted will be Judy Collins singing "Battle Hymn of the Republic". This video can be found at YouTube at the following address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIHrjsy4nNs .
As the writer comes to the point where the video should be inserted, the following steps should be followed:
* On the YouTube page, click on "Embed". A highlighted embed code will appear in the box below the "Embed" button. Copy that code.
* On the Open Salon new post page, there is an HTML button. Click on that button and a HTML Source Editor window will appear. That will show the text content that has been written already for the new post.
* In the HTML SOurce Editor, go to the point where the video should appear in the article. Paste the embed code from the YouTube page.
* Once the embed code has been placed in the HTML Source Editor, click on the "Update" button. That is at the bottom left hand corner of the HTML Source Editor. That will close the HTML Source Editor Window and return the writer back to the "New Post" page.
From that point, it is just a matter of carrying on with the article and clicking on "Publish" when finished. The video should appear in the article. There is no need to size the video. The coding on Open Salon will do that automatically.
Using these steps, here is Judy Collins' exquisite rendition of The Battle Hymn of the Republic:
If using a site other than YouTube, just look for the Embed function to see if it allows a code whereby the video can be shared. If there is an embed code, just copy it and follow the procedure detail previously.

Thank you for making this little old blogger a bit more proficient in cyber-skills. A friend is someone who goes through all this kind of trouble to help someone else. I am grateful (and I owe you a blog.)

P.S. - Once you've got into the HTML box, you can look at the sizing of type, the typeface, which you can change at will, and you can insert typeface color and background color. In short, you have come across a way to fritter away hours of precious time...
