At a Local Fair: Deep Fried Butter Balls

Rate: 6 Flag

There were the usual treats at the fair. Kids had cotton candy. There were stands selling candy apples, corn dogs, ice cream sticks covered with chocolate and peanuts, mini cake donuts and shaved ice with a mixture of colors and flavours. The most popular treat was deep fried butter balls. Three of them on a long, sharp stick constituted an order. And there was always a long line-up of people waiting to buy these treats.

I had a sample. It was good. Coated with flour and bread crumbs on the outside for some crunch, the butter had been mixed with cream cheese. Then the concoction was deep fried for a few seconds. The result was a still-solid, creamy filling with a hint of salt.

I had never seen anything like this, let alone tasted butter sever in this manner. I had to look to see if this treat was mentioned online. Paula Deen, from the Food Network, has the recipe and instructions:

To state the obvious, this is not a health food. The immense popularity of these treats means that medical schools cannot have enough places in their cardiology programs.

cardiologists around the world salivate...
I thought that deep-fried Snickers were odd. Deep-fried butter? My doctor might advise against it:)
My most recent post is a visit to the county fair. While we do not have butter balls, we have funnel cakes, pronto pups, Miss Piggy's Pork Palace, and deep friend candy bars. Oh the horror, the horror . .
This post should come with a warning label..:)
Rated with hugs
Roger, they had those too. I didn't try any though. [Wimp]

Brian, these treats will find their way to your part of the world too. The owners of the stand could not fry them quickly enough to meet demand.

sixty... now a Google search for 'pronto pups'.

Linda, it should have been served with a warning label. Of course, it was tasty though.
Luckily, until they come out with a Gluten-Free version I will not even be tempted to indulge in this cholesterol-laden delicacy. I do miss funnel cakes, though ...
Where will the madness end - deep-fried lard?
I've seen this somewhere...and yes, I am so curious.

but not that curious. not yet, anyway.

I think as time goes on I shall cast fear to the wind and pop a few of those suckers and feel the love.
Paula Deen can just bring her butter and move in._r
